Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband
Chapter 87: A Mother Without Children

Chapter 87: A Mother Without Children

Medeia despised kids.

She thought those little gremlins were annoying and noisy. They always asked too many questions, touched things they shouldn’t, and cried at the slightest inconvenience.

There were times when she imagined throwing one into a hot cauldron, just to shut their mouths that wouldn’t shut.

Sometimes she even wanted to let the monsters eat them alive, because she didn’t want to waste her energy trying to save them.

But no matter how much she hated them, Medeia had never hurt them.

Maybe the reason she hated them was because their pure and innocent hearts reminded her of something she had lost long ago—

—Her own children.

To the Demon Lord, their children were nothing but a threat to his reign. Therefore, he decided to eliminate all of his offspring to secure his throne.

He had killed them without mercy and in doing so, he had stolen her chance to become a mother.

Medeia had done everything she could to hide them, but the demon lord always had a way of finding them all.

She once had children of her own, but never had the chance to be their mother.

"What did you say?" Medeia’s hands shook as she tightened her grip on the doctor’s collar. "Say it again."

The doctor’s face turned ghostly pale, his eyes were wide with fear as he looked into Medeia’s. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—"

"Say it," Medeia demanded again, the weight of her words pressing down on the doctor. "Tell me what you did to the babies?"

"We-we used babies as vessels." The doctor’s voice trembled as sweat dripped down his forehead. "Their bodies were still in an adaptive state, so they were perfect for the experiments."

"The fusion process ... it allowed their cells to integrate with the DNA of mutants, animals, even other creatures." He continued, "We force them to turn into the Lost by stressing them, but we try to preserve some of their sanity."

Because of the experiment, they grew unnaturally fast into something monstrous.

The experiment had failed many times because it was difficult to maintain their sanity without turning them into the undead.

But Orlon refused to stop. He believed that the failures were only stepping stones to the perfect result.

Lucian’s jaw clenched as he listened. "And how many have you destroyed in the process? How many lives have been ruined by this madness?"

"I-I don’t know... I f--"

Medeia’s hand moved from his collar to his throat, gripping it so tightly that he couldn’t breathe. Her eyes flashed with fury as she said, "Tell me the number."

The doctor struggled to breathe and tried his best to answer. "M-more than three ... three hundred--"

Medeia suddenly threw his body against the wall with a sickening thud, the impact leaving visible cracks in the concrete. He slid to the floor, coughing and gasping for air, his face pale with terror.

Medeia was about to approach him, but Lucian held her hand. "Medeia, he’s just a pawn."

She turned her head to him. For the first time since they had met, Medeia refused to listen to him. "Just a pawn?" Medeia’s voice trembled with so much anger. "That fucking pawn has ruined a lot of children’s lives! They were children, Lucian!"

She screamed out loud, "They were fucking children!"

[Foul language detected! Penalty minus 20 C points.]

Medeia ignored the system as her rage reached its peak. C-points meant nothing compared to the atrocities being committed here.

Her grip on her weapon tightened as she glared at Lucian, her eyes blazing with fury. "They were innocent, Lucian."

Lucian was taken aback because he had never seen Medeia so angry. "I know." He softened his tone and stroked her hands. "I know, Medeia. But you’re wasting your energy torturing those doctors."

"The one who needs to pay the most is Orlon." Lucian pulled her closer. "He is our priority now, then we can deal with these doctors later."

Lucian’s soft voice managed to calm her heart a little. "Fine," she said. "But after that, I’m going to make them pay. All of them."

Lucian nodded. "I’ll be right with you." He went on, "Let me talk to them, okay?"

Medeia clenched her fist but finally nodded.

Lucian turned to another doctor. He asked firmly, "Orlon must be the one who opened their cage, and he couldn’t have done that without knowing how to control them. Tell me how?"

"We developed a device." The doctor who wore glasses said, "The military used to research ways to control the Lost, but they failed. After the military stopped their research, Orlon took over."

"We modified the device and integrated it with neural implants and signal-based control. The device emits frequencies that stimulate the brain and directly affect their behavior."

Medeia focused her gaze on him. "You know a lot about this thing, don’t you? Did you design it?"

"I’m a neurosurgeon." He said nonchalantly, "I was the one who put the chips in their brains."

Medeia lost her temper again, her grip on her weapon tightening as she took a threatening step toward him. "I really ... really want to kill all of you."

Before she could go any further, Lucian stepped in front of her, his hand gently gripping her arm. He asked the doctor, "How can we turn off the chip?"

"You can’t." The doctor seemed to show no remorse. He simply replied, "If you want to turn off the chip, you have to destroy their brain."

Medeia’s chest felt so heavy after hearing his words. "You’re telling me there’s no other way? That’s your solution? To kill them all?"

"Removing the chips without killing the subject is impossible." The doctor with the glasses laughed as if he wanted to mock her. "Besides, what’s the point of saving them? These children have turned into monsters."

He continued, "They will not be able to live as normal people even if you restore their minds."
