Chapter 85: Humans Experiment (1)

In the morning, Lucian and Medeia left the Junk Garden by borrowing one of Richard’s jeeps.

No, they didn’t borrow it. Richard had given it to them, claiming it was a reward for activating a whole sack of fertility stones.

"Think of it as my thanks for all the hard work," Richard said.

Medeia rolled her eyes and threw a bag of ten seeds at Richard. "You owe us more than a jeep, Richard." She continued, "I can’t give you any more seeds, so just use the seeds on the vegetables and fruits we gave you."

Medeia grimaced because she had spent 3,000 gold coins just to buy 10 seeds from the system.

The system was even worse than the bandits in the doomsday.

"See you later, Richie," Lucian said before driving the car away from the Junk Garden base.

Medeia looked at her belongings in the back seat, making sure that all the things she had taken from the mall were there.

"What are you going to do about Orlon?" asked Medeia after checking her belongings.

Lucian tapped his fingers on the wheel. "First, I want to know his purpose in building experimental labs."

Rather than an experimental lab, it looked more like a torture chamber as he did all the unorthodox things to the humans in the name of science.

Medeia leaned back against the seat and whispered, "At this point, I can no longer tell who is the human and who is the demon."

Lucian looked at her out of the corner of his eye, his grip on the wheel tightening. "The world hasn’t been much different from hell for a long time now."

As they approached the Warstock base, the sun was almost down. Medeia saw Simon standing at the gate with Ren.

Simon raised a hand to greet them, while Ren bounced on his feet as Lucian and Medeia got out of the jeep.

"Finally you came!" Ren called, "We thought you two had eloped."

Simon covered Ren’s mouth with his hand and laughed awkwardly. "No, we didn’t." He went on, "But we really need your hands now."

"Is something wrong?" asked Medeia.

"The soldiers are a bit ... difficult to handle. They tried to break through the prison bars a couple of times, so Harry and I decided to lock the dungeon door for ... I don’t know, maybe four days?"

Simon smiled awkwardly, hoping that Medeia wouldn’t be angry with him for letting the prisoners starve for days.

"But don’t worry, we didn’t put the doctors in the dungeon because they will definitely die down there." Simon said, "Unfortunately General Orlon is still there. We want to get him out of the dungeon, but you know ...."

"You’re too scared to enter the dungeon?" Medeia patted his shoulders. "You made the right decision, Simon. Good work."

There are at least 80 soldiers in the Warstock base. They could be in the dungeon in the first place because Lucian had kicked their ass and thrown them in there.

If they went on a rampage in Lucian’s absence, they could kill Harry and Simon right away.

"Where is the key?" Medeia opened her palm up, gesturing to him to give the dungeon key.

Simon scratched his neck. "Would you like to see the dungeon first?"

The truth was, the dungeon was not locked with a simple key. Harry had covered the door to the dungeon with chains and a large tank.

"Really? Is a tank necessary?" Medeia sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.

Harry crossed his arms and explained, "You don’t understand. The soldiers are not the only threat in the dungeon. There are others ... so, yes, it’s necessary."

"You mean like the experimental products?"

Medeia hadn’t entered the dungeon yet, but Lucian told her that the humans used as lab rats were no longer recognizable as humans, but as monsters.

"Maybe ... actually, I’m not sure," Harry said.

Lucian tilted his head and put his ears between the tank and the door. "I can’t hear anything."

"Maybe that’s because the door is too thick," Medeia guessed.

Lucian told Medeia and the others to stand back. He pushed the tank away with his power and broke the chains.

"Don’t stand at the door." Lucian gestured for Medeia to stand behind his back before he pushed the door open.

AAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

A piercing scream echoed through the dungeon as Lucian opened the door. The sound wasn’t just loud, it vibrated through the air, sending out sound waves that made everyone’s ears hurt.

Lucian immediately closed the door and leaned his back against the surface of the door. He shifted his eyes to Medeia. "Are you okay?"

Medeia grimaced, feeling like her eardrums would burst if she heard that voice any longer. "I’m fine."

"What the hell is that?!" Ren freaked out and slowly moved away from the door. "Is that the soldiers’ voice?"

Harry shook his head. "No. It doesn’t sound like the screams of many people."

"Just one." Simon looked at their faces in turn. "It comes from a person, or maybe not a person."

Medeia creased her forehead. "Actually, what kind of creatures are down there?" she continued, "Is there a chance that the General is still alive? Should we seal the place now?"

Medeia doubted that anyone was still alive after living with such a creature for so many days. Besides, it seemed that the monster was not just one, but many.

"Let’s talk to the doctors first." Tian suggested, "They must understand this better than we do.

Ren asked, "And what if the doctors say they are dangerous creatures?"

"The monsters almost blew out your eardrums, but you still ask about that?" Medeia rolled her eyes. "Of course they’re dangerous. If they’re more dangerous than we think, then this door will be sealed forever—no, let’s just destroy it to the ground."

Harry, "But what about the General?"

"What about him?" Medeia shrugged. "We have the doctors. If we want to know many things about the experiment, they will be our answer."
