Surviving the Apocalypse: All I Want Is to Find a Husband -
Chapter 80: ’Normal’ Date
Chapter 80: ’Normal’ Date
[Cooldown: 00:07:38]
Medeia had watched the cooldown for five minutes. Her feet tapped the floor anxiously, waiting for the number to reach zero.
After two days apart from Lucian, Medeia had lost the ability to sleep soundly at night. She felt something was wrong whenever she couldn’t lie on his chest while she slept.
"My clothes look fine, don’t they?" Medeia asked Naomi as she turned around in front of her.
She was wearing a fitted black top and a red leather jacket, along with a pair of black cargo pants and black boots. The look was practical for the harsh environment, but still stylish enough to look pretty in front of Lucian.
"You always look good in any outfit," Naomi complimented.
"I know."
Naomi grimaced softly and immediately wanted to take back her compliment. "It’s not like Lucian’s asking you out on a date, is it?"
"Who knows? He said he wanted to take me somewhere special." She shrugged. "Maybe it’s a five Michelin star restaurant."
Naomi let out a weary sigh. "First of all, the Michelin star only goes up to three stars. Second, you can’t even find a normal restaurant in the middle of an apocalypse, let alone a fancy one."
Medeia clicked her tongue. "Oh, come on. Don’t ruin my expectations."
"Your expectations are impossible to begin with."
"Shut up." Medeia prepared her backpack before leaving the room. "I’ll be back in ... I don’t know? Two days, maybe."
Sometimes she ran into something unexpected, so she wasn’t sure when she’d be back.
Yesterday, Tian and Ren had gone to the Warstock base to tell Harry that they were fine.
If only they had phones, communication would be easy.
[Cooldown: 00:00:00]
Medeia smiled brightly when she saw the row of zeros. "Alright. I think it’s time for me to go."
Before Naomi could answer, Medeia had run out of the shield and immediately activated the mystical compass.
[Activating Mystical Compass]
[Destination: Lucian.]
[Searching for the destination and routes ...]
[... DING! System has found Lucian’s location.]
[Location: City H.]
Wait, what?
Why did Lucian go to City H, which happened to be Junk Garden’s base?
Could it be that he just wanted to invite Medeia to have dinner with his family? It was nice, but it wasn’t what she wanted.
She was a little disappointed. She thought that Lucian wanted to spend some time alone with her, but if it was a family dinner, that didn’t exactly scream ’date’.
Medeia let out a small sigh, trying to push away the disappointment in her heart. "Well, maybe it’s still something special," she muttered to herself.
After grabbing a gas mask, she was ready to go.
[Activate Mystical Compass: Teleport to Lucian’s location.]
The world around Medeia blurred and shifted as she activated the Mystical Compass. A moment later, she found herself in the middle of darkness.
It was so quiet around her that the only sound she could hear was the sound of her own breathing through the gas mask. "Lucian?" she called his name, but got no answer.
Why is it so dark?
She could see in the dark, but the silence made her feel uneasy. The place was huge and there were small retails all around.
Am I inside a mall?
The more Medeia thought about it, the more she worried about Lucian. She quickly activated the eternal bond ring to find Lucian’s whereabouts. The red string came out of it and stretched far forward.
Just as she took a step forward, the darkness suddenly gave way to a flood of warm, glowing light. One by one, the lights flickered on, illuminating a vast space around her.
Medeia blinked in surprise and lowered her gas mask to see her surroundings clearly. It was indeed a shopping mall---a normal shopping mall, to be exact.
Some of the places were not in good condition, with cracked tiles and faded signs, but the place was still decent enough.
The escalators were frozen and the shops were half-empty or completely empty, but it was enough to make Medeia feel like she wasn’t in the middle of the apocalypse.
She jumped as pop music suddenly began to play over the mall’s old speakers, crackling slightly but clear enough to recognize the melody. "What in the world ..."
"Do you like it?"
Medeia jolted in surprise as someone whispered behind her. She reflexively grabbed her dagger and turned, but before the dagger could hit anyone, a hand gently grabbed her wrist. "Easy, it’s only me."
Medeia froze as she saw Lucian standing in front of her. Somehow he looked different than usual, more handsome ... more normal?
Lucian wasn’t wearing his usual black jacket or hunting clothes. Instead, he was wearing a casual white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, paired with dark trousers and simple leather shoes.
"Lucian?" Medeia blinked, her heart beating faster than usual and her hands shaking slightly. "What ... what’s with that look?"
He tilted his head and smiled at her. "You don’t like it?"
She must be blind if she doesn’t like it!
With a look like that, Lucian could have easily become a model in a fashion magazine. Medeia felt her cheeks heat up and quickly crossed her arms to hide her nervousness.
"It’s not that," she murmured, avoiding his gaze. "You just look ... different. Less like a hunter and more like---"
"A boyfriend taking his girlfriend out on a date?" he finished, his grin widening.
What is wrong with him?!
He almost gave her a heart attack with those words!
Medeia cleared her throat. "I-I wasn’t going to say that, but sure, let’s go with it."
Lucian laughed softly as if laughing at her. "Richard and I accidentally found this abandoned mall back then. The interior wasn’t too damaged, so we decided to fix it up a bit."
"I didn’t expect him to take care of this place after all these years." Lucian explained, "But he said his sisters like to come here when they want to pretend the world is still fine."
"Is that what you want? To pretend the world is fine?" asked Medeia.
Lucian took her hands. "I want us to pretend nothing is wrong with the world for one day." He said quietly, "If I can, I really want to take you to a nice restaurant for dinner, buy you lots of pretty clothes or beautiful jewelry, and then play with you in an amusement park or an aquarium."
Unfortunately, he couldn’t do any of that.
Before the doomsday, Lucian thought places like that were boring because he had been to those places many times. But now he felt that maybe ... maybe he wouldn’t be bored if he could spend time in places like that with Medeia.
"Just for one day, I want to have a normal date with you." Lucian asked nervously, "Medeia, do you want to go on a date with me?"
