Chapter 61: Medeia’s Pessimistic Thoughts

Orlon’s jaw tightened as he watched Lucian deflect the bullets with nothing more than his mind. The bullets stopped in mid-air, then fell to the ground like harmless rocks.

"General," Colton lowered his voice. "If Eddie is right about him, then he can also ruin our entire base."

Orlon spat on the ground. "Nonsense. I have fought many mutants since the end of the world and no one has ever beaten me."

He continued, "He may be strong, but as long as I can touch him, he is nothing more than a useless rat."

Medeia, who had a sharp hearing, laughed when she heard his words. "A useless rat, you say? Yes, in theory you can indeed disable all mutants in this world, even a strong mutant will kneel before you."

She sneered at him, "But remember, it only happens when you touch them. You only have one chance to kill Lucian and you have already ruined it, General."

Because once he failed, the probability of killing him would be reduced to zero and no one would be able to touch Lucian on the battlefield.

Orlon clenched his fist and said, "Let’s see who is laughing at the end."

The general exchanged glances with Colton, as if they could plan something without saying anything.

Lucian gently laid Medeia on the ground, creating a protective shield from the debris around them. "I’ll make this quick."

"Be careful," he reminded her.

Medeia didn’t say much because the pain in her body was becoming unbearable, it was even hard for her to move her fingers.

[Host, as a reminder, you still have 9 Grade-S healing potions and 2 Grade-A healing potions].

"I know." Medeia turned her head to the side, looking at Lucian, who was holding back the bullets that were constantly being fired at him. "But if I’m not hurt enough, maybe he’ll leave me right away."

If she looked sick and covered in wounds, Lucian might have felt guilty and decided to take care of her for a while.

That way, she could stay by his side a little longer.

Her bastard ex usually behaved better when he abused her too much or when she faked her illness.

So maybe ... just maybe, Lucian wouldn’t despise her if she was seriously ill.

"I want to be sick forever," she muttered.

She told the system that if Lucian left her after seeing her demon appearance, she would be fine.

However, when she imagined it again, her heart immediately felt so painful that she couldn’t breathe.

She couldn’t bear to see Lucian leave her.

[You are too pessimistic, Host.]

"And whose fault is that?"

The system was the one that forced her to change before she could find a kind man.

It told her that a kind man would only like a kind woman, so an ugly heart demon wouldn’t be able to get Lucian.

[Pessimism is not the sign of kindness, Host!]

Medeia clicked her tongue. "Actually, why are you so obsessed with perfect kindness? As I said, no one, repeat, no one has that kind of kindness!"

[What do you know about kindness? You only met people in hell].

"Humans are the same," Medeia chuckled softly, "some of them can go to heaven just because they can hide and control their wickedness better than people in hell."

Just because someone seemed kind and nice, it didn’t mean they had never thought about killing someone or stealing something in their minds.

Hence, in the Apocalypse, when the world was no longer bound by law and morality, people tended to show their true nature.

The Apocalypse didn’t turn good people evil. In truth, they were already that way to begin with.

[But what about the kind people you met in the Apocalypse?]

Like Sister Jeanne, some of the villagers, and ... Lucian.

"None of them have perfect kindness either." Medeia deepened her voice. "Even Lucian didn’t have a perfect score."

His kindness value was 99.

It was high, but not perfect as the system wanted.

But that was normal, because humans were not created to be perfect.

They had flaws, a kind of flaw that a machine couldn’t understand.

"You really are ... just a machine," she whispered.

On the other side, Colton had been throwing explosions at Lucian again and again while Orlon tried to get closer to him.

Unfortunately, as Medeia had said, it was impossible for anyone to touch him on the battlefield.

"Time is up." Lucian looked at Medeia out of the corner of his eye. "I have more important things to do."

Colton yelled, "Don’t underestimate me!"

"Oh, I have never underestimated you. Otherwise I would like to help you gain more power." Lucian smiled. "You like to absorb kinetic energy, right? Then I’ll give you more."

Lucian raised his hand. Debris, wind and invisible force swirled around Colton.

Colton’s eyes widened as his body began to tremble from the massive amount of power that was pouring into him. "What ... What are you doing?" he screamed, panic creeping into his voice.

"Don’t you like explosions?" Lucian said calmly, but his eyes looked dangerous. "Then enjoy this."

Colton’s arrogance was gone, replaced by panic as his body convulsed from the overload of energy.

His muscles bulged grotesquely, veins popping out of his body. "No! Stop this! I beg you to stop!" he cried, his voice cracking with desperation.

Lucian’s eyes darkened further. "You had no problem throwing that explosion at my wife earlier. Did you think I wouldn’t make you pay for it?"

Colton tried to step forward, but his legs buckled from the unstable energy. His screams grew louder as cracks began to form on his skin.

"G... General! H-help-"

BOOM!

The explosion was catastrophic. A shock wave exploded outward, cracking the ground beneath the blast, and a cloud of smoke rose high into the sky.

His flesh and blood scattered everywhere, creating a grotesque scene that sent shivers down their spines.

Lucian had already formed a protective barrier around himself and Medeia, shielding them from Colton’s disgusting flesh.

When the smoke cleared, only black ash remained where Colton had stood moments before.

Lucian turned to Orlon. His voice sounded as if ice had poured down his head. "Which death do you prefer, General?"
