Chapter 39: Snake and ladder

[One Sword to Rule the World Level 1

Grade - Mythical

Description - As long as you believe in the sharpness of the sword, your sword will slash through everything, be it time, fate, or anything.]

"Another broken skill..." Dawn muttered, yet his fingers unconsciously tightened around the glowing text. He had seen powerful techniques before, but this... this was different. The sheer arrogance of the description sent a shiver down his spine. As long as you believe in the sharpness of the sword, your sword will slash through everything. The words burned themselves into his mind.

He swallowed, picturing his ancestor carving reality itself with a single swing. Could he really reach that level? He had to test it. No—he needed to test it.

However before that.

"Might as well check my stats now..."

It had been almost two years since he last saw them.

"Finally, I am almost at the limits of Iron grade."

After painstakingly meditating for two years and consuming numerous elixirs, he had finally achieved this state.

"Just you wait, Nether Wraith’s king. This daddy is coming to fuck you over..."

Dawn grinned with a look of madness flashing in his eyes.

After being in the cold and damp colony of Nether wraiths, his heart had grown desperate. He wanted to venture out and explore the world.

He didn’t want to spend his time like his previous life, forever trapped in a hospital room until death.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried to get out of the Nether Wraiths colony in the past two years, but he was brutally defeated by the Nether Wraith’s king. If it wasn’t for his ability to leave the Eternal battlefield anytime, he might have already lost his life.

Thinking about the ferociousness displayed by the Nether Wraith’s King, Dawn’s heart chilled.

However, looking at his status now, his confidence rose.

"Just you wait, fucking son of a bitch..."

Dawn cursed and decided to end the life of the poor thing today itself.

He immediately made the window disappear and closed his eyes.

"..."

Just as his consciousness was about to leave his body, a loud knocking sound reverberated in the room.

"Young master, are you inside? Little Miss from the Bright Moon family has come to visit you."

Fiona’s sweet voice came from outside.

Dawn frowned as the image of a cute little girl appeared in his head.

He shook his head with a forced smile and cancelled his plans of heading to the battlefield.

Dawn got up and lightly said, "Invite them in for me, Big Sis Fiona."

Despite his young appearance, Dawn’s voice sounded mature and filled with dignity.

Immediately afterwards, the gate of his room opened and two figures gracefully walked in, followed by a middle-aged man walking behind.

Joseph’s eyes once again flashed with amazement; the dignified aura radiated by the young man made him think of the family head when he was young.

"Greetings, Young Master Dawn."

Joseph respectfully bowed and greeted.

On the other hand, the young girl cried out in joy and rushed towards Dawn.

"Big Brother Dawn... I missed you a lot!"

Dawn almost lost his balance from the force of the young girl’s charge and couldn’t stop himself from rolling his eyes.

"What in the world is the Brightmoon family feeding this girl?"

The young girl’s name was Emily Brightmoon; Dawn had recently come to know her name.

Although Emily had just turned three, her body seemed to be filled with divine strength.

Dawn wanted to meet the Brightmoon family head and personally ask what they were feeding her.

Although Dawn was only nineteen and looked like a big child, Emily barely reached his chest.

"If this girl is here, she would have brought gifts, right?"

Dawn’s eyes flashed as he looked around, trying to find something.

Joseph, who understood the cue, immediately took out a jade box from his clothes and said, "Young master, this little gift is from the Brightmoon family."

Hearing Joseph’s words, Dawn’s lips immediately curled upwards.

He smiled happily and said while patting Emily’s head, "Dear Emily, did you forget about your big brother? Why didn’t you come to visit last month?"

If she had, he would have been able to comfortably reach the limit of Iron grade rank today.

Hearing his words, Emily pouted and said while pursing her lips.

"Mommy didn’t let me leave. She was teaching me a new refinement technique."

Dawn was shocked; the refinement technique Emily was talking about was no child’s play.

It was the method to refine elixirs. Moreover, a three-year-old child learning to refine elixirs – what in the world?

However, upon careful thought, this was to be expected. The Brightmoon family was a famous elixir-refining family, not just in the city but all over the empire. This was also the reason why his father allowed her to enter the Skylar estate.

After all, no family head in their right mind would dare to offend a medicinal giant like Brightmoon.

Moreover, both families wanted to use the incident from two years ago to get closer to each other.

...

"Big Brother Dawn, I want to play chess, not this snake & ladder game. Emily doesn’t like snakes."

Emily pouted and pitifully said while trying to act cute.

Dawn and Emily sat in the center of the room, with a large wooden board between them. The wooden board was painted black with numerous perfect squares lined up. At the center of each of these squares was a number, starting from one and going all the way to a hundred.

On top of some of these square boxes were tiny ladders placed.

Numerous figures of snakes opened their mouths in eager anticipation, as if waiting for their prey to arrive.

Dawn snorted and gently threw the makeshift dice on the table.

The dice glided through the air and landed on the surface with a thud.

Immediately, the eyes of the two young ones focused.

"It’s six... Haha! Emily, I win!"

With a hearty laugh, Dawn grabbed his token and moved it from square number 94 to hundred, narrowly avoiding the snakes’ decisive attacks.

Emily huffed in annoyance and muttered in a low voice, "Stinky Brother Dawn, let’s play chess."

While he carefully pocketed the box filled with elixir, Dawn’s face turned dark when he heard her words.
