Chapter 37: Flying meteor
Chapter 37: Flying meteor
"What in the world..." Dawn muttered in slight awe.
Fiona’s body glowed fiery purple as if she was on fire; muscles bulged all over her body as she resisted the weight of the python’s gigantic tail bearing down on her figure.
It looked as if an ant was trying to resist the weight of an elephant.
Under Dawn’s shocked gaze, she let out a loud battle cry and used all her strength to push the beast away.
"Get the fuck away from my young master, you filthy beast!" Fiona roared as her body glowed even more intensely. For a moment, the glow emitted by her body seemed to have eclipsed the sun’s radiance.
Fiona’s roar split the air as she planted her feet, veins bulging against her bloodied skin. The python’s weight pressed down like a collapsing mountain, her muscles screaming in protest. But with a final, desperate surge, she heaved—
Boom! The tail lurched upward, snapping trees as it flew.
Under the shocked gazes of Joseph and Dawn, the gigantic tail, which seemed to weigh hundreds of kilograms flew through the air like a ball.
"Go, big sis Fiona! Smash this bastard to death!" Dawn cheered from the sidelines, tension easing from his shoulders.
Even on Joseph’s old face, a smile filled with relief appeared. It seemed they were finally safe.
"...."
Just as he had breathed a sigh of relief, the snakes tail flying throug the aur abruptly came to a stop and a cold snort resounded throughout the surroundings like a deafening sonic boom. Dawn felt his head buzz as if someone had slapped him.
"Did you Noble bastards really think she could stop me..."
In the next moment, a guttural voice that sounded like two glass pieces sliding against each other echoed in the surroundings, filled with utter disdain.
A cold wind blew, and the tail which seemed to be flying back in the air suddenly came crashing down at high speed.
BOOM!
A deafening boom shattered the air. A blur shot past crashing through the trees like a ragdoll.
Fiona’s figure only came to a stop when she had been blasted through numerous tree branches and fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
Dawn glanced at her figure and immediately sucked in a breath of cold air.
Her skin had burst in many places, and blood was pouring out, dyeing the ground red.
The little girl also realized her precarious situation and started to cry out loudly, as if listening to her loud cries someone would come rescue her.
Joseph’s eyes had lost all hope, and he looked towards the sky with resentment.
"Why is fate so cruel to the young miss?"
Dawn ignored the old man’s shaking figure and focused on the dreadful monster in the distance.
"So this is what the abyss mark is capable of..." he muttered while lost in thought. Although the situation was already very bad, he still didn’t take action; his eyes were unnaturally calm as if his life wasn’t threatened at all.
He was betting on the hidden expert. Dawn was sure his family would take his safety seriously given how they valued him.
It was also for this reason he wasn’t worried about Fiona, although she seemed to have lost too much blood.
Thinking about Fiona, his eyes suddenly flashed with a strange light. Hmmph?
Ignoring the towering monster behind him and in an almost unconcerned manner, not caring one bit about his safety, he rushed towards Fiona’s figure while shouting.
"Wuwu... Big sis Fiona, are you okay?" Dawn cried out—after all, as a one-year-old, he was supposed to act like one.
Looking at the scene of Dawn rushing toward the injured woman, the snake’s eyes seemed to narrow into slits filled with unprecedented coldness.
"Don’t even think about escaping; all of you will die. You nobles treat the poor like ants all the time. Let’s see who is going to save you from me today."
The snake opened its mouth and hissed venomously, releasing a black-colored fog.
"Let the boy live for a moment... hmm, first I have to deal with this pile of trash."
Joseph’s body immediately stiffened, feeling the ruthless gaze turning in his direction; however, he wasn’t petty enough to blame Dawn.
Seeing the fearful look in Joseph’s eyes, the cruel look in the snake’s eyes intensified.
"Yeah, that’s right..."
"Is this the end?" Joseph muttered with despair on his face.
The snake seemed completely unaffected as it slowly moved towards Joseph, its large crystalline scales glowing ominously under the sun.
"Wuwu... Grandpa, am I going to die? Will I never be able to meet mom now?" the poor girl cried out pitifully. Due to excess crying, her eyes had turned bright red.
The girl’s question was like a sharp arrow that pierced Joseph’s heart. Without hesitating, he immediately hugged the girl.
"Oh, fate, why are you so cruel!"
Joseph felt bitter; he wasn’t afraid of death. He felt bitter that his young miss wasn’t able to grow up properly.
There were whole centuries ahead of her... yet.
Just at this moment, Joseph saw a light flash in the sky, and before he realized it... a meteor illuminating the sky came flying through the air.
Dawn, who was trying to bandage Fiona’s wounds, also stopped to look towards the sky; he felt a familiar aura.
The meteor split the sky apart, a deep otherworldly hum seen to fill the air followed by an intense pressure.
Not just Dawn, even the Abyss snake seemed to have felt something, as it abruptly raised its head to look at the sky.
"Who dares?" The snake hissed, it’s eyes narrowing dangerously.
A blinding light seared the sky. The snake’s eyes widened—too late.
"Such power!! Who are you..." The snake’s words were abruptly cut midway, and a loud, sickening crunch reverberated throughout the surroundings.
The air split apart, a wave of pure force erupted outwards, ripping through forest like a hurricane.
Boom.
Dawn barely blinked when his face was hit by a shockwave, his ears ringing as a deafening explosion swallowed the air. A pulse of searing heat washed over his skin, forcing him to squint against the blinding light.
A shockwave exploded outward, shaking the very earth. Smoke billowed, and when it cleared...
The python lay still. Its head was simply gone.
He stood up with a dazed look in his eyes, staring at the place where the snake had stood arrogantly a moment ago.
When the dust cleared, the earth was smashed open in a fresh crater, its jagged edges smoking with residual energy.
The snake’s corpse lay twitching, its thick, muscular body convulsing as if refusing to accept death. Its once-molten eyes were now dim, black sludge oozing from the stump where its head had been
In the center of the crater stood a figure whom Dawn had recently gotten somewhat familiar with.
"Father!"
