Chapter 873: Chapter 883: The Gold and Silver Protectors! (One more)
Tang Zhong decided not to expose himself for now. He wanted to see what these Lucao Kingdom people were up to.
The Captain-General was momentarily stunned upon hearing Tang Zhong’s response—he hadn’t expected Tang Zhong to say such things.
"It seems your identity is indeed extraordinary. If you were an ordinary person, you’d probably be scared stiff by now!"
"What is there to be afraid of?" Tang Zhong retorted. "Also, who exactly are you? We’re preparing to head back to the North Sea—why did you bring us here instead?"
"There’s no need for you to know. General, let’s kill him immediately and proceed with the mission!" someone beside him interjected.
"Alright!" the Captain-General nodded.
The old man and Xiao Jiu huddled together in fear. "You... you bunch of thugs! What are you trying to do? This is Xuan Country’s territory!"
"Xuan Country’s territory? This is the High Seas—we’ve already crossed out of your jurisdiction. So, it’s no longer your territory. We’re stronger, so this is our land now!" the Captain-General declared.
"You bunch of thieves..." the old man cursed angrily.
At that moment, the Captain-General took out a crossbow arrow—an object resembling a handgun but functioning as a small bow—and aimed it at Tang Zhong and the other two.
"Thieves? Yes, we are thieves! So what? I’ll kill you, and no one will ever know about it!"
He prepared to pull the trigger.
"The people of Xuan Country will never let you bastards off!" the old man clenched his teeth in rage. Then, turning to Tang Zhong, he whispered, "Young man, take Xiao Jiu and go. I’ll hold them off for a while. Xiao Jiu lost her mother when she was small—I can’t watch her get hurt. I’m an old man now; I can’t run anymore. When they shoot at me, I’ll cover you. You just need to run north—that’s your safest route!"
"No need!" Tang Zhong waved his hand dismissively. "You take Xiao Jiu and start running now!"
"Huh?" The old man froze.
"Just run!" Tang Zhong insisted. "Don’t worry—I’ll catch up to you in a bit. Nothing will happen!"
Upon hearing this, the old man grabbed Xiao Jiu and began sprinting.
Tang Zhong stayed rooted where he was, watching the group of people. The Lucao Kingdom had gone to great lengths to send personnel to the North Sea Valley. There was definitely something here. He didn’t want to kill people outright; he wanted to figure out what they were plotting.
The Captain-General noticed the old man carrying Xiao Jiu as they fled. His voice turned icy: "Run? Do you really think you can escape my grasp?"
He aimed his crossbow at the fleeing old man, pulled the trigger, and fired an arrow that burst into flames and shot straight toward the old man.
At that moment, Tang Zhong somehow picked up an iron rod from the ground. Facing the incoming arrow, he swung it like a baseball bat. With a resounding clang, the arrow bent and deflected, and the iron rod in his hand was singed red by the heat.
The Captain-General and his men turned visibly grim as they stared at Tang Zhong and the iron rod in his grip.
"He blocked my arrow with an iron rod. This man must be a martial artist from Xuan Country!"
"Blocking one arrow, huh? Let’s see if you can block all of them!" the Captain-General sneered and pulled the trigger repeatedly.
Tang Zhong’s movements were like illusions—sounds of metallic clangs rang out as more arrows struck. Scattered around his feet were bent and twisted arrows, while Tang Zhong himself remained untouched.
This... how is this possible?
Everyone around was taken aback, disbelief painted across their faces.
The speed, the precision—looking at Tang Zhong now, even the Captain-General furrowed his brow. "This man must be a martial arts master from Xuan Country. Judging by his strength, he’s a top-tier expert!"
The surrounding crew members grew visibly uneasy. They had never expected the man holding the iron rod to be on par with their captain.
"Captain Lute, what should we do?"
"Kill him, of course!" the Captain-General replied.
His name, Lute, was finally revealed.
Meanwhile, Tang Zhong glanced back at the old man holding Xiao Jiu. They had safely reached the deck and jumped off the ship. Seeing this, Tang Zhong was reassured; the old man, being a North Sea fisherman, was much more proficient on water than on land—he should be safe now.
Now, it was time for Tang Zhong to leave.
Tang Zhong refrained from killing anyone immediately. He wanted to understand what the Lucao Kingdom people were up to.
Without hesitation, he turned and headed toward the ship’s cabin, then out onto the deck. His eyes widened in shock at the sight before him.
In front of their ship, hundreds of military vessels—all belonging to the Lucao Kingdom—were camouflaged and strategically arranged ahead. It was clear they had just arrived.
What was so important here, to warrant the Lucao Kingdom spending such a colossal effort?
The ships were disguised, clearly in hopes they wouldn’t be detected by the Dragon Group—so there must be a treasure here.
"I need to leave first," Tang Zhong murmured.
He could avoid killing, but no one could stop him from leaving.
Near the sea lay massive rocks protruding like reef formations, emerging from beneath the ocean surface.
Leaping from the ship, Tang Zhong landed on one of the rocks.
At that moment, the sky suddenly darkened, as if a storm was about to erupt. The clouds churned, accompanied by flashes of lightning flickering intensely.
A massive bolt of lightning tore through the heavens, illuminating the area like daylight. It struck the ocean below, causing the water to churn violently, forming a terrifying whirlpool.
Panic broke out among the people aboard the ships as chaotic noise erupted.
Tang Zhong frowned. He had never witnessed such fearsome lightning before—what was going on?
Could the lightning be related to the Lucao Kingdom fleet gathering here?
Tang Zhong didn’t linger. Quickly, he maneuvered along the reef and left.
The Lucao Kingdom soldiers on the ships spotted Tang Zhong fleeing and began firing crossbow arrows at him.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Arrows zipped through the air but failed to hit Tang Zhong, leaving the soldiers grinding their teeth in frustration aboard their ships.
Tang Zhong was already gone.
Captain Lute’s expression darkened the most.
"What should we do, Captain? Should we chase him?" his trusted ally asked.
"No need. The lightning is here, which means the treasure mentioned by the Ritual Minister must have appeared. Soon, the Gold and Silver Protectors will arrive from Lucao Kingdom, so we need to deal with our local affairs quickly!" Lute replied, his brows furrowed.
"But what about that man? He’s a Xuan Country native. If the Dragon Group learns of this, they’ll send personnel to negotiate!" the ally said again.
"Ignore it. We’ll act exactly as the Ritual Minister instructs us. Haha, once today is over, the treasure in the North Sea will belong to us," Lute declared.
Just as he finished speaking, a voice came from the distance.
"Silver Protector has arrived!"
