Chapter 874: Chapter 884: Paving the Way with Blood! (Second Update)

On the journey toward the North Sea Valley, there was another ship. But this one was a real warship, far superior to all the others here.

At this very moment, on the ship, all the sailors were working hard to control its course.

At the bow of the ship, a figure cloaked in silver stood there, holding a telescope and observing the scene ahead. Next to him stood two hunchbacked individuals, their backs bent as if carrying some heavy burden.

In the distance, the thunder and lightning were all captured in the view of the silver-cloaked figure’s telescope.

"Heavens unleash thunder, the stone of ages emerges, the divine prophecy has indeed come true!"

As the silver-cloaked figure spoke, the two hunchbacked individuals beside him echoed in agreement, "Yes, Silver Protector!"

Silver Protector then put down the telescope in his hand, turned to the person next to him, and asked, "Are the troops all prepared?"

"They are ready!" the person nearby responded.

"The Ritual Minister stated that a treasure is certain to appear here. It’s very likely to be that kind of stone. No matter what, it cannot be stolen by anyone else. So be vigilant at all times, understood?" said the Silver Protector.

At the mention of "that kind of stone," the two hunchbacked individuals exchanged a knowing smile, their evident longing for it shining through.

Just then, a few soldier-like figures appeared from the back, escorting captives forward.

The captives were none other than Xiao Jiu and his grandfather. After escaping from Lute’s ship, they didn’t make it far before being captured here.

"What do you want with us?"

"You Lucao Kingdom thieves!"

The two individuals being escorted could hardly move under their restraints.

At their protests, the soldiers holding them coldly retorted, "Old man, shut your mouth!"

One of the soldiers then slapped Grandpa Jiu hard across the face.

Grandpa Jiu, already in his seventies, had his face imprinted with a handprint from the slap, and what few teeth he had left were knocked loose.

"Grandpa! Grandpa!" Xiao Jiu shouted, distraught.

"I’m fine, Xiao Jiu, don’t worry!" Grandpa Jiu coughed out a mouthful of bloody saliva as he spoke.

"Old man, if you dare utter another word, I’ll beat you to death!" roared the soldier who had slapped him.

Before long, both Grandpa Jiu and Xiao Jiu were brought before the Silver Protector.

The soldier stepped forward and said, "Protector, we’ve captured two people from Xuan Country. What should we do with them?"

Before the Silver Protector could reply, the two hunchbacked individuals interjected, "People from Xuan Country? They must be killed. Not a single one should be spared!"

"Hold on!" said the Silver Protector, turning around to reveal his face—it was entirely silver in color. He scrutinized Grandpa Jiu and Xiao Jiu before saying, "Imprison the two of them for now, just in case we need them!"

"Understood!" the soldier replied.

Grandpa Jiu cursed again, "You bandits! What exactly are you hiding from us Xuan Country people? The North Sea belongs to Xuan Country, not yours. Bandits! May you all die a horrible death!"

His curses were cut short as he was forcibly dragged away.

As soon as Grandpa Jiu and Xiao Jiu were taken away, the two hunchbacked individuals approached the Silver Protector and asked, "Protector, why spare these two? Since they’re from Xuan Country, wouldn’t it be better to kill them quickly?"

"No... killing them would only create more trouble. Our primary mission this time is to assist the High Priest in finding the treasure that’s about to emerge, not to waste time here!" replied the Silver Protector.

"Understood!"

Once again, the Silver Protector turned his gaze ahead as the warship sped rapidly onward.

The voyage continued at a blistering pace.

Meanwhile, in the North Sea Valley, Tang Zhong hid in the shadows, observing the unusual events unfolding ahead.

The people from the ships seemed to have completely forgotten about Tang Zhong’s existence and had already begun their operation.

The individuals disembarked from the ships onto the jagged rocks. Ahead was a mist-covered area. As they moved forward, they soon disappeared into the fog.

Tang Zhong navigated among the rocks, closely tailing these individuals. From a vantage point high above, he tried to observe what they were doing.

Eventually, the soldiers from Lucao Kingdom came to a halt. In front of them stood a mountain cave.

He could see people entering the cave, though only a few—likely the vanguard.

"It seems they’ve all entered the cave. I should also check it out and investigate everything before they get too far," Tang Zhong said, preparing to move.

Suddenly, blood-curdling screams came from the cave—those who had just entered were now crying out. The entrance began to quake violently.

"What’s going on?" Tang Zhong knitted his brows as his steps faltered, his pupils dilating in shock.

From the cave entrance, golden beams of light surged forth, resembling lasers.

The corpses of those who had entered earlier were ejected from within, gradually consumed by the golden light.

The beams, like lasers, could reduce a person to nothingness.

The sheer destructive power was incomprehensible.

Those near the cave entrance scrambled in fear, some flattening themselves against the ground, terrified of being struck by the light. Watching their comrades perish filled their hearts with dread.

"Oh no, what is this?"

"Is this cave what we were sent here to investigate? The High Priest never told us it would be this deadly!"

"Exactly!"

The soldiers were overcome with panic.

All their chatter reached Tang Zhong’s ears.

It seemed even these soldiers were unaware of the cave’s dangers. It was evident that the High Priest was the one who understood everything.

Still, such an ominous cave surely had some sort of treasure hidden within it.

Tang Zhong stayed hidden.

Before long, the chaos quieted down. Several of the High Priest’s subordinates emerged, shooting the troublemakers, immediately restoring order.

Then, they proceeded into the cave once more.

But the results remained the same!

It didn’t take long before more beams of golden light shot out from the cave, wiping out those who had entered.

Despite this, the commanders continued pressing the soldiers forward.

After sending wave after wave of people into the cave, something finally changed.

At last, the golden light ceased emanating from within the cave.

In other words, the cave was now safe to enter.

Tang Zhong furrowed his brows. These Lucao Kingdom High Priests were truly ruthless. Now he understood why so many soldiers had been sent here—they were nothing more than cannon fodder.

By sacrificing blood, they had unsealed the path to the cave.

If these soldiers had known they were being sent to their deaths, they would have fled long ago.

With the cave now open, Tang Zhong immediately followed behind. Lucao Kingdom’s High Priest was a leader of the witch sect, akin to a fortune-teller from Xuan Country. They could foretell certain things, and it seemed this High Priest had discovered the presence of a treasure within the cave. That’s why he had gone to such lengths. Still, what could possibly be inside the cave? Tang Zhong’s curiosity was piqued. He resolved to see for himself and trailed the group inside. Upon entering, he was utterly stunned by the sight before him.
