Chapter 532: Chapter 532: Ominous Tomb_1
Wei Jingyi put down his teacup, rose to his feet and said, "Nothing of significant value comes out of Jiangdong. For many years, there has been little talent emerging from there. Since he is from Jiangdong, he is likely an inferior craftsman. Notify me once you have decided on the departure date. As for other irrelevant people, don’t bring them along. With me around, there is no need for others’ help. It would otherwise hinder us and slow us all down."
With that, Wei Jingyi left, accompanied by Wei Ying.
After seeing the duo off from his antique shop, Zhou Li returned to the rear yard and apologized, "I’m sorry, Mr. Su. Old Wei is an authoritative figure in Danyang and a Cultivator from the Xuan Gate, one of the ’Eight Doors’. He inevitably comes off as peculiar and arrogant. I beg your indulgence."
"Tell me about the tomb."
Su Chengyu could not care less about Wei Jingyi. To him, Wei was nothing more than a fake Cultivator. He found it irksome to deal with such ignorant and self-righteous individuals.
Zhou Li brewed a cup of tea for Su Chengyu and started describing, "This tomb is located in the Cloud Mist Mountain, a hundred kilometers away from Suifeng City. The mountain remains shrouded in mist throughout the year, and it is notorious for its miasma and venomous insects, making it an inhospitable place. Around half a year ago, an earthquake hit the region and revealed a part of the ancient tomb. Then, some people went in to explore and stumbled upon the tomb."
"Eight people went into the tomb at the time, none of them returned alive. They had called me beforehand to inform about the tomb. It was shocking that they all died inside. Afterward, I assembled over twenty skilled apprentices, all of them armed to the teeth. They followed three Big Masters down into the tomb."
"I had injured my leg in my early years and opted not to go. Instead, I took up the responsibility of preparing for what came next. In the end, only two managed to escape. One went insane, and the other was severely injured, losing a pair. The three Big Masters died inside. According to the survivors, the tomb was eerily large, and chilling to the bone. The person entombed there must have been a figure of great importance. There was a Bewildering Formation set up inside, leading to the Big Masters getting trapped and killing each other in madness. On top of that, there was a terrifying breed of bats. A single bite from one of them could decompose your body into pus. Utterly horrifying."
Although Zhou Li did not venture into the tomb, even the mere mention of it sent shudders down his spine.
"After these two failures, we dare not rush into the tomb again. We ought to formulate a long-term plan. The Bewildering Formation inside the tomb is notably problematic. That’s why I sought out Old Wei. As a Cultivator, he specializes in geomancy and Formations. His presence is indispensable for the next trip. Even a Great Grandmaster would face danger without him."
Su Chengyu stroked his chin lost in thought. He was not familiar with tomb raiding. Formations, on the other hand, didn’t pose a problem. When the time comes, he would bring Yu Yanshu with him, sticking to the principle of no Formation being of any use.
"I heard from Chen Yuanheng that there were treasures in the tomb?" Su Chengyu inquired. What he was truly concerned about was what could draw his attention: treasures, magic artifacts, Elixirs.
"The returning brother mentioned catching whiffs of a potent medicinal scent. But without concrete information, he had no idea what it exactly was. They had only managed to venture into the outermost area of the tomb. However, after some analysis with Old Wei, we were sure that the tomb belonged to the ancient era, possibly over a thousand years old. Given that Suifeng City was an ancient capital, it’s quite plausible that the dangerous tomb with the protective Formation was the imperial mausoleum of a certain emperor. There’s no need to belabor the copious amounts of gold, silver, and treasures that were likely buried therein. It might even contain treasures like Spirit Pills." Zhou Li shared.
"When do you plan to venture into the tomb again?" Su Chengyu asked.
"The Golden Holy Door lost all of its skilled individuals in Danyang. We have suffered great losses as well. I have already reported this to the Inner Door and we’re waiting for them to send reinforcements. In a week at most, we can enter the tomb." Zhou Li replied.
"Alright! Notify me when you’re ready. Rest assured, once we venture in, I will manage things on my own. You need not worry about me. I won’t become a burdensome load to you." Su Chengyu rose to his feet and said.
"Mr. Su, you’re being too modest. How could you possibly be a burden? Chen Yuanheng already told me. You’re young, capable, and a high-ranking Great Grandmaster. As much as Old Wei may be slightly pedantic, please bear with him. He possesses great abilities. Without him, we will be in grave danger while visiting the tomb. The next exploration is impossible without him!" Zhou Li expressed.
Su Chengyu did not respond and left the antique shop. However, he didn’t leave the antique market, but instead started wandering around idly, hoping for some unexpected finds.
Despite taking an exhaustive tour, he failed to find anything of value. Leaving from another end of the antique market, he encountered the famous Suifeng gambling stone market. It was a sight to behold, filled with piles upon piles of raw jade stones from various places.
Jiangyang had a similar market, where Su Chengyu had once explored about five or six years ago. He had purchased numerous raw stones, but all of them turned out to be rejects.
There’s a saying in the gambling stone market, "One cut leaves you penniless, another makes you rich, divining jade is even tricky for immortals." The charm of gambling on stones lies in the mystery. Each stone presents an unknown gamble, igniting the passion of many people to bet on stones.
Su Chengyu entered the gambling stone market. Although it becomes immensely challenging to identify the potentiality of these stones, even using instruments, for Su Chengyu, these raw stone materials were practically transparent. His Divine Sense provided him a clear perception of each stone.
As he passed by a gambling stone shop, he noticed a large crowd gathered inside. It was lively. At the moment a well-dressed, distinguished middle-aged man was in the process of jade carving. He had just purchased three pieces of raw materials that surprisingly yielded jade stones of fairly good quality.
"Young Master Yuan, you’re lucky today, congratulations." The people nearby showered him with envious glances, flattering him.
Yuan Bo, his face beaming, said, "This isn’t luck, it’s skill and experience."
"Definitely! Young Master Yuan, you’ve been a regular in the jade gambling market for so many years, your skills and experience could be compared to a jade appraisal master."
"Young Master Yuan, kindly help us pick a few raw stones," someone said from the side.
Yuan Bo waved his hands and said, "Absolutely not! Gambling on stones depends on one’s abilities and fortune. If I picked good stones for all of you, won’t the boss scold me to death? Each man to his trade, so get going and pick your stones! These raw materials just arrived today — there’s plenty to choose from."
The boss of the gambling stone shop came over and said, "Thank you for your kindness, Young Master Yuan."
"Don’t worry, I know the rules. We’re here to have fun and we shouldn’t ruin the rules of the jade gambling market. I’ll go and check out some other materials," Yuan Bo declared, laughing heartedly.
Su Chengyu took a glance. Out of a huge pile of materials, only the three pieces chosen by Yuan Bo were good. The rest were not likely to reveal anything valuable. He walked towards another pile because he noticed a fluctuation of spiritual energy in one of the pieces from that stack.
Jade stones are said to have spiritual connections. Those that possess spiritual energy are called Spirit Jade. They can be used to create amulets and can also be used in setting up Formations.
Su Chengyu was planning on setting up a more significant Formation that would cover his entire Number One Villa in Lin Jiang. It would serve as protection and defense as well as provide a consistent supply of nature’s spiritual energy. To create a Formation large and sophisticated enough, he needed to gather more Spirit Jade.
