Chapter 533: Chapter 533 Great Resentment Seed_1
Su Chengyu rummaged through the pile of rough stones, pulling out one that contained Spirit Jade. This piece of stone looked nondescript, deemed nothing but trash by usual standards. But hidden within it was a fist-sized piece of Spirit Jade.
Su Chengyu weighed it in his hand and prepared to make a payment for it. At this time, Yuan Bo happened to approach the same pile of rough stones and upon seeing Su Chengyu picking out a seemingly worthless stone, he couldn’t help but spoke, "Buddy, this stone is not good. It’s clear that you can’t get anything out of it, don’t waste your money."
"Oh really? But I believe gambles with jade are not about the surface look. Perhaps an unassuming piece may yield something great." Su Chengyu responded lightly.
"Are you new here?" Yuan Bo asked.
"Indeed, this is my first time here." Su Chengyu nodded.
Yuan Bo said, "Take my advice, this is clearly a worthless rock, pick a different one."
"No worries, thanks for your tip. But I trust my judgment." Su Chengyu responded.
A middle-aged man following Yuan Bo spoke up, "Are you nuts? Can’t you take a hint? Don’t you realize who’s giving you advice? Young Master Yuan, with his status, shows goodwill and you reject him? Even a novice can tell your stone is unremarkable, it’s trash."
Yuan Bo lifted his hand saying, "Well, it’s all part of gambling with stone, as long as you are happy with your choice. It’s your money, no need to belittle others."
"The man is obviously a blind fool, ungrateful and deserves scorn. Why bother helping him, Young Master Yuan? If this piece of stone turns out to be jade, I’ll eat the trash." The man was obviously trying to curry favor with Yuan Bo.
"Enough, go pick your stones." Yuan Bo said.
"You’re on the hook now. Not sure how well your teeth can chew when you eat it." Su Chengyu responded.
"Crazy! Do you really believe you can bring out jade from that stone?" The man sneered.
"Of course! I have confidence in my judgment." Su Chengyu stated confidently.
"Well, then! Let’s make a bet! If you can find jade in it, I’ll eat the trash in public! If you can’t get anything, you have to kneel and bow three times, shouting ’grandpa’ to me, and then crawl underneath my crotch. Do you dare to take the bet?"
Huang Jun, a lackey often seen with Yuan Bo in the jade market, fancied himself savvy and experienced.
"Deal! Let’s ask Young Master Yuan to bear witness." Su Chengyu said with a smile.
To Su Chengyu, Yuan Bo said, "Brother, don’t get heated up, there’s no need. We are all here to try our luck with stones. It’s unnecessary to get involved in this because frankly, your stone will not yield any jade."
"Young Master Yuan, don’t bother to persuade him! People like him deserve lessons. Today, I will teach him how to be a proper man. This brash, overconfident fool dares to bet me." Huang Jun arrogantly said.
Su Chengyu strolled towards the worktable dedicated to cutting rough stones. Huang Jun yelled out, "Everyone, come and watch! Today, in this market, I’ve encountered a big fool who insists on betting that he can get jade from a piece of trash."
Seeing that Su Chengyu was ignoring his advice, Yuan Bo hesitated but did not say anything more. As Huang Jun raised a commotion, many folks were drawn in to watch the spectacle.
Regulars at this jade market knew the identities of Yuan Bo and Huang Jun. Yuan Bo was the son of the richest man in Suifeng City, holding a noble social status. He was an affable, down-to-earth character who enjoyed making friends.
Huang Jun, on the other hand, was the son of the district commissioner of Liyang, a vassal town under Suifeng. He kept close to Yuan Bo, but he had an inflated ego, acting arrogantly as if the world owed him everything.
The crowd pressed in, getting a good look at the dark, dull stone in Su Chengyu’s hand. It looked like a piece of unremarkable, ordinary stone; indeed, to anyone with some experience in jade gambling, it was an absolute dud.
"Who is that guy? He seems unfamiliar. How did he offend Huang Jun?"
"I heard everything since I was standing by them. Young Master Yuan kindly reminded him that the stone was not good, but he insisted it was quality material. This led to some heated words between him and Huang Jun, culminating in a bet."
"Isn’t this guy a complete simpleton? Even I, with my limited experience, can tell the stone is worthless, let alone Young Master Yuan who certainly can’t be mistaken."
"Exactly, so the guy must be brainless. Let’s enjoy the show, once he loses, he has to kneel and crawl under Huang Jun’s crotch."
"Interesting."
The crowd chattered away, viewing Su Chengyu as a big fool and eagerly anticipating his humiliation.
"Everyone, keep your eyes peeled to see if this piece of trash can produce jade. Let’s see how this fool ends up kowtowing and crawling through my legs." Huang Jun laughed.
Amid the boisterous laughter from the crowd, Su Chengyu’s lips curled in a small smirk. He handed the stone to a worker, "Cut it."
The man in charge of cutting the stones gave Su Chengyu a derisive look. "With this piece of trash, is there even a need to cut?"
"Hurry it up. Let everyone see how this fool gets his face slapped." Huang Jun urged.
The worker immediately started to cut the stone. Stone cutting is a delicate process; a straight cut could potentially harm the jade inside. Therefore, the standard practice was to cut slowly and meticulously. The worker did exactly that, swiftly cutting off a corner before continuing the process.
"What’s the point in fussing over the cutting process? Just cut it down the middle. Do you seriously think there’s jade inside?" Huang Jun scoffed.
The worker nodded in agreement and directly cut the stone down the middle. As expected, there was nothing to be seen, not even a hint of green. Just a simple ordinary stone.
"Kid, what do you have to say for yourself now? When I call you a moron, you still talk back! Now, kneel down and show your respect!" Huang Jun gleefully laughed and began taunting Su Chengyu.
Su Chengyu said calmly, "Why the hurry? It’s not fully cut yet."
He then instructed the worker, "Cut this half again, take it slow, cut it from this area, one slice should show the jade."
"You are undeniably crazy, insisting on cutting this piece of trash again," the worker replied impatiently.
"It seems you just can’t admit defeat. You must face up to failure! Do as he instructed and cut. Even if this piece of stone is to be whittled down to dust, it will not produce any jade!" Huang Jun scorned.
As Huang Jun had spoken, the worker had no choice but to cut according to Su Chengyu’s instruction. With bystanders continuing to jeer and deride, they viewed Su Chengyu as a laughingstock.
The blade quickly cut through the stone a second time. At the spot where the blade had passed, a hint of green emerged. Not just any green, but a dazzling, pure, translucent green under the light.
