Chapter 991 - 991 977 Ling Qianxiu
Chapter 991: Chapter 977: Ling Qianxiu Chapter 991: Chapter 977: Ling Qianxiu Two days passed, and He Xibai also arrived.
Yu Yun’s health slowly recovered somewhat, but to fully recover, she still needed some time. However, the news of Ye Chen’s death at Sky Mountain, she couldn’t accept it. How could he have just died like that; why did it happen?
Why did she have to go to Sky Mountain? Why did she insist on picking the Sky Mountain Snow Lotus? Yu Yun simply couldn’t accept it, and then He Xibai came over, telling her that everything was true, and that it had already spread everywhere.
How could such a thing happen?
If she could choose, she would rather it be her who died, not him. She felt like she was a harbinger of doom.
Wan Danrong said with concern, “You shouldn’t be sad anymore. It was not easy for Ye Chen to have Ling Bo send the Sky Mountain Snow Lotus back here. If he knew you were so sad and not taking care of yourself, he would be very unhappy.” Besides these empty words, she didn’t know what else to say.
But Yu Yun just couldn’t help her tears from flowing. She had been crying like this for several days, initially saying she wanted to go to Sky Mountain to find Ye Chen’s body, but she was persuaded to let go of the idea gradually.
“You knew it was so dangerous, and you shouldn’t have let him go,” Yu Yun cried out. How could she possibly not know that Ye Chen did it to save her?
“Don’t say such things,” Wan Danrong thought, feeling incredibly suffocated inside. The more she thought about it, the more she felt the monkey was utterly deplorable.
Yang Tao’er threw out a sentence, “Everything will get better, stop being sad.”
Gradually, Yu Yun’s emotions became somewhat steady, and Qing’er prepared to leave.
They would be able to descend the mountain tomorrow. The people from Demon Palace City would wait for them at the foot of the mountain.
Seeing that Yu Yun’s emotions were finally stable, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
It was already midnight.
Wan Danrong and He Xibai, as well as Guo Yuyun, were probably asleep by now.
Under the trees in the courtyard, only Guo Yuqing and Yang Tao’er were there.
Yang Tao’er said, “Then I won’t go with you.”
“Mhm, it’s really a bit embarrassing to have troubled you for so many days,” said Guo Yuqing.
“It’s the monkey that should feel embarrassed,” Yang Tao’er replied casually.
Guo Yuqing smiled slightly and said, “Once I leave tomorrow, I don’t know when we will see each other again.”
“We’ll have the chance,” Yang Tao’er replied.
“My sister being able to come back to life, I really can’t thank you enough,” Guo Yuqing didn’t know what else to say.
Yang Tao’er could see that Guo Yuqing was conflicted about her feelings for Ye Chen and could understand why. Su Zhanze was there before, but because of the affairs in Demon Palace City, Su Zhanze caused her father’s death and the deaths of many people from Demon Palace City.
Now that Su Zhanze was no longer an obstacle, she knew that Ye Chen cared for her.
“If I have the chance, I will come to Demon Palace City to see you,” said Yang Tao’er.
“Sure, you are always welcome.”
Li Mo pointed ahead toward the Yixiang Brothel and said, “Miss Ling is right inside.”
Ye Chen glanced at it; the establishment was still bustling with activity. Out of curiosity, he asked, “Cang Jianglong is so fond of Miss Ling. He isn’t poor either, so why doesn’t he take her out of there?”
Li Mo laughed and said, “Cang Jianglong already has a wife. He and Ling Qianxiu are just confidants, and besides, Ling Qianxiu doesn’t want to owe him this favor.”
“It seems she is also a stubborn girl,” Ye Chen sighed and then walked ahead.
Suddenly, he didn’t know what happened, but a child bumped into him. It was a little beggar with a soot-covered face, his clothes riddled with several holes. He must have stolen someone’s steamed bun, as five or six people were chasing after him, shouting, “You mute brat, we’ve finally caught you.”
The small beggar frantically hid behind Ye Chen. His thin frame evoked pity in anyone who saw him; he must have been hungry for who knows how many days, or else he wouldn’t have stolen a steamed bun. Hearing those people calling him a mute, Ye Chen felt even more compassion.
The several men with sticks approached and swung them down. Ye Chen effortlessly reached out and caught the sticks, breaking them in two, startling the two assailants. Those blows, had it not been for deep internal power, would have broken his arms.
Had he not reached out his arm, those two hits would have definitely landed on the mute beggar’s head.
Li Mo shouted, “What do you think you’re doing?”
The leader of the group assessed the two of them and, sensing they were skilled in martial arts, didn’t dare to be reckless, and shouted back, “This mute beggar stole our steamed bun.”
Li Mo said, “Even if he stole your steamed bun, you can’t use such heavy sticks. If you did, he might not have lived.”
“Who are you two, and he choked on our steamed bun, not just this once,” they argued.
Ye Chen said, “How much are your steamed buns? We’ll pay for them.”
The leader was stunned, seemingly wanting to reclaim some of their past losses at once.
Li Mo bellowed, “How much will it cost?” He had already taken out the silver and produced two ingots, then shouted, “Is this enough?”
The leader, seeing the two ingots of silver, could say nothing more but repeatedly nodded, saying it was enough before quickly retreating.
Ye Chen immediately helped up the child, who was still in a state of shock, and asked, “Are you hurt?” It was as if he remembered the days of his own past; he was about the same age, homeless, wandering around, and eventually sold to Earth Demon Island. If it hadn’t been for the fortunate encounter with the Red Demonic Spirit, he shuddered at the thought of what his fate might have been.
The child shook his head repeatedly while gnawing on the steamed bun.
Ye Chen then quickly urged Li Mo to take out two more ingots of silver for the child. Holding the silver, the mute child hastily departed.
The commotion downstairs captivated the eyes of those on the second floor, one of whom was Ling Qianxiu, who murmured to herself, “This man’s martial arts are not simple; he was able to shatter thick sticks with the girth of two arms. Without profound internal power, it’s simply impossible to do such a thing.”
Ye Chen entered the Yixiang Brothel, still looking somewhat embarrassed. Although he usually acted carefree, with Wei Yiling still in his life, proclaiming in her presence that he was going to find a girl and drink in a brothel was something he had never actually done.
“Sect Leader, you seem bashful,” Li Mo commented with a smile.
“Who’s bashful? Stand tall and proud!” Ye Chen shouted again, “Stop staring at me—go on and ask around.”
A flock of girls surged forward, like hens ready to feed, but they were blocked by Li Mo. Seizing the moment, Ye Chen slipped past and headed for the stairs to the second floor.
He encountered a matron in her forties, followed by several fairly attractive girls. She asked directly, “Are you looking for a lady, sir?” Upon seeing two strangers, she again assessed their clothes, concluding they must be wealthy young masters.
In order to pass more convincingly as a rich young master, Ye Chen had reluctantly splurged on his current attire. Indeed, he hated to waste money, but pressed by circumstance, he couldn’t appear too shabby—especially since Ling Qianxiu was one of the three renowned beauties here. Feigning airs, he exclaimed, “I require the presence of Miss Ling Qianxiu.” The feigned interest made his skin crawl.
“Oh, so the honored guest has his eyes on one of our esteemed beauties. Not just anyone is privileged to meet Miss Ling,” said the woman, turning her head and nearly shoving her other hand in front of Ye Chen’s eyes, as if fearful he wouldn’t see otherwise.
Ye Chen promptly felt his chest, only to realize that his money pouch had disappeared without a trace. Remembering the mute begging child, he quickly called out, “Li Mo!”
Li Mo extricated himself from the clutch of girls and came over with the silver. Ye Chen swiftly took out another two ingots and handed them to the matron. The sight of the glimmering silver made her eyes light up, and she instantly became much friendlier—almost as if he were a long-lost relative—and called out, “Miss Xiu’er, a distinguished guest has arrived.”
Li Mo asked Ye Chen, “Where’s your silver?”
“That little beggar stole it,” admitted Ye Chen, rather embarrassed.
“What! The little bastard.” Li Mo exclaimed.
“Enough, no more talk.” Ye Chen said.
“But do we have enough silver left? We might end up sleeping in the stable tonight,” Li Mo expressed his concern.
“As if you’ve never slept in a stable before!” Ye Chen retorted.
Entering the Yixiang Brothel, to describe it as a bridal chamber would not be an exaggeration. All was bathed in red, as if it were the night for a wedding. A delicate beauty with a peach-like face sat poised with a pipa in hand, the epitome of elegance. You couldn’t say the girls here lacked charm—in fact, they might even possess more.
The matron began to discuss prices. Ye Chen, wishing to avoid the topic, pushed the sweating Li Mo to handle it instead.
Meanwhile, Li Mo was still wondering whether he’d be able to leave the Yixiang Brothel with his clothes intact.
Ye Chen, too, opened his fan and entered with an air of sophistication, mimicking the persona of a profligate, “So you are Miss Ling Qianxiu?” He couldn’t help but reveal a sly grin.
Ling Qianxiu, who had been keeping an eye on him from the second floor, could tell that despite his convincing act, he was full of flaws through the eyes of someone adept at observation. He was nothing like a true profligate, especially with the intense martial arts skills he displayed. How could someone so indulgent possess the willpower to learn such remarkable martial arts at such a young age?
“Have you come for me?” Ling Qianxiu asked.
“Yes.” Ye Chen quickly bowed, eager as a fawning dog, acting even more the part of a wastrel.
“To listen to the pipa music?” Ling Qianxiu inquired.
“Precisely, and it would be even better if I could enjoy a couple of drinks.” Li Mo had not entered the room.
“But you’re running low on silver now,” she observed.
“How do you know I’m running low on silver?” Ye Chen asked.
“The child you encountered in the street, he’s in cahoots with them. He’s already stolen your silver.” Ling Qianxiu had been watching them ever since they entered.
“Ah, silver is but a worldly possession,” Ye Chen sighed.
“You’re here for Cang Jianglong, aren’t you?” She knew that most who came here were not seeking her company, but Cang Jianglong’s instead.
Ye Chen was genuinely startled and inquired, “How did you know?”
“You don’t resemble one who comes to indulge in pleasures; a wastrel wouldn’t have dedicated himself to mastering the martial arts you possess,” Ling Qianxiu stated.
Seeing that he was thoroughly seen through, Ye Chen conceded, “Then would you be willing to tell me how I might find Cang Jianglong?”
“And why should I tell you?” she countered, before suddenly finding his face somewhat familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before.
“Then what must I do for you to tell me how to locate Cang Jianglong?” Ye Chen asked.
