Chapter 992 - 992 978 Selling Art Not Body
Chapter 992: Chapter 978: Selling Art, Not Body Chapter 992: Chapter 978: Selling Art, Not Body “What’s in it for me if I tell you about Cang Jianglong?” Ling Qianxiu asked.
“The benefit is, you can have me for one night. Would you like that?” Ye Chen had run out of silver taels by this time.
“You’re certainly not shy,” Ling Qianxiu found this fellow’s manner of speaking rather interesting, and he wasn’t too bad looking either, arguably handsome. She asked, “What do you want with Cang Jianglong?”
“To go to Sacred Spirit Island.”
“Even if I tell you, he might not agree.”
“Then how about you tell me first?”
“Why do you want to go to Sacred Spirit Island?”
“To seek assistance from the Sect Leader of the Sacred Spirit Sect, borrow the Sacred Spirit Stone.”
“What an audacious request. Who do you think you are, that their Sect Leader would lend the Sacred Spirit Stone to you? I know for a fact that no one has seen the Sacred Spirit Stone in nearly a hundred years.”
This girl was no ordinary person, not just anybody. He knew all of this.
“There’s no other way. I need to survive, so I must borrow the Sacred Spirit Stone; otherwise, I’m facing certain death.”
“You’re saying you have no other way out but death?”
“Yes, I won’t hide it from you, Miss. I am the Sect Leader of the New City Sect, afflicted by magic power after putting on the Wolf King’s Ring. I want to borrow the power of the Sacred Spirit Stone to destroy the Wolf King’s Ring and break the ring’s curse.”
Upon hearing this, Ling Qianxiu then remembered. Indeed, people from the Demon Domain had circulated his portrayals, seeking him throughout the city, and his wanted posters were still pasted on the streets. No wonder he looked so familiar.
“The Sect Leader of New City Sect is already dead. He died on Sky Mountain for the woman he loved,” Ling Qianxiu voiced, despite being a brothel woman. She greatly admired those with a sense of justice—in a place so riven with self-interest and indulgence, such integrity was especially precious. Her own father had been from the Demon Domain; his fate had been unkind, reducing his once-prosperous family to ruin. Driven by desperation and the need to survive, she had taken this path in life.
This girl was no ordinary person. He had heard Li Mo mention on the road that she originally came from a wealthy family. But due to family circumstances, she had ended up with such a fate. Her words only confirmed that she was indeed brilliant, likely well-educated, for she wouldn’t have been so astute and intelligent otherwise.
“That was just to avoid unnecessary trouble. If everyone knew I’m still alive, they would surely hunt me down everywhere.”
“So, you aren’t worried that I’ll betray you for a bunch of silver?”
Ye Chen smiled, “If I hadn’t learned about you beforehand, I wouldn’t have rashly revealed my identity. I know you’ve always admired those righteous and have often donated silver to help homeless children.”
“Still, I might betray you. Do you know how much silver I could get for turning you in?”
“If Miss truly valued money over everything else, I think you would have followed Cang Jianglong long ago, and he is never lacking silver.” Generally, girls from noble families have their pride, and although her circumstances had changed, that inherent pride is hard to shake off.
He was right, indeed. She had seen enough of the world to have grown indifferent to money, merely passing her time here.
“Besides, even if you were to speak out, not necessarily everyone would believe it, since I seldom visit such places. No one would be willing to believe it,” said Ye Chen.
“That’s not necessarily the case.”
“Miss, what must I do for you to tell me how to find Cang Jianglong?”
“Are you truly willing to spend a night with me?”
Ye Chen was startled by the question and replied, “May I consider it before answering?”
Ling Qianxiu smiled slightly and said, “Of course.”
“You’re not going to devour me tonight, are you?”
Ling Qianxiu held a particular admiration for those who lived for the people, and in her two years there, she had heard a fair amount about him; she was unsure whether the stories were true or false.
“I may perform, but I don’t sell my body,” Ye Chen tossed out the saying.
Ling Qianxiu found this even more amusing. In such a corrupt place, it was truly hard to find a kindred spirit.
Having heard about the Bell and Drum City incident, she knew he had been tricked by Longhun. This was no longer a secret, but she was still very curious and asked, “Did you really go to Sky Mountain looking for the Sky Mountain Snow Lotus for a girl?”
“Yes,” Ye Chen casually drank a cup of tea, feeling that the girl was easy to talk to—at least she wasn’t asking for silver.
“What’s her name?”
“Guo Yuyun.”
“Do you like her a lot?”
“Mhmm.”
“But I heard that it was her sister who revived your consciousness. They say her sister is your true love.”
Ye Chen was caught off guard. How could this news have spread to a brothel? He was surprised and said, “The girls here in the brothel all know about this?”
“Why shouldn’t we know?”
“It’s not that. I’m just astonished that my affairs have become a topic of gossip here. It’s truly unexpected.”
“So, do you like her sister?” The question stung him deeply, and he asked with uncertainty, “You seem very curious about my affairs. You’re not really thinking of marrying me, are you?”
“Hehe, would you dare to marry a brothel woman?” Ling Qianxiu continued, “It would be too shameful to face your ancestors.”
“I’ve never really cared much about that. The most important thing is I truly like the person.”
“So, do you like her sister?”
“Yes, I truly do.”
“And her sister likes you. You’re not saying you like her sister too, are you?”
“Doesn’t that seem particularly infuriating?”
Ling Qianxiu shook her head and said, “Indeed, it’s very infuriating.”
“What do I need to do for you to tell me how to find Cang Jianglong?”
“Wasn’t it agreed that we’d talk after spending a night together?”
“You’re so expensive, I’m afraid I won’t have enough silver.”
Ling Qianxiu said, “Then sell your body.”
“You don’t really expect me to sell myself, do you?” Ye Chen began to wonder.
This guy is actually quite adorable. Although his silver was stolen by a little beggar, it was out of good intention. It’s clear to see that he’s kind-hearted. More importantly, the things he has done for the Demon Domain are renowned by everyone. Not wanting to trick him further, she said, “Fine, but Cang Jianglong might not be willing to help you.”
“Why not?”
“Because he’s a stubborn man, too many people seek his help and end up being scolded.”
“So what should I do, kidnap you to force him to comply?”
Those eyes glared over, and with a cold laugh, she replied, “You seem to have quite a few tricks up your sleeve.”
“I might have some tricks, but I’m a kind person. I’ll just scare him a bit, I won’t really do anything to you.”
Ling Qianxiu said coldly, “If I don’t tell you about Cang Jianglong, will you kidnap me?”
Ye Chen revealed a surprised smile.
“I can see that’s what you’re thinking.”
“Hey, why don’t you want to leave this godforsaken place?”
“What’s wrong with this place?”
“Good here? Indeed, you can live just by lying down.”
“I sell my talent, not my body,” Ling Qianxiu said.
“But I heard Cang Jianglong wants to redeem you. Why don’t you leave? I believe he can give you a good life.”
“Just because he wants to, doesn’t mean I have to listen to him.”
“You don’t want to owe him, right?”
He guessed right and she said, “You’re quite an interesting guy.”
“Of course, I’ve always been interesting.”
“Enough playing around, I’ll write you a letter. Cang Jianglong will help you.” Ling Qianxiu had already summoned someone to bring pen and ink.
Ye Chen, very curious, asked, “Do you really not need any conditions to help me?”
“To have you sell yourself, you wouldn’t agree, nor would I compel you to do so.”
“Hey, don’t say that; I might consider it.”
“One sister and one younger sister, it’s already quite a mess.”
“Then I’ll redeem you.”
“Actually, there isn’t a big difference between the inside and the outside, it’s just a matter of inside and outside the city.”
“But you still haven’t told me why you’re helping me.”
“You’ve helped the people of the Demon Domain, and my father was also from the Demon Domain. Besides, I really don’t want to see a big demon around. Hopefully, this can help you.” Ling Qianxiu pondered; this guy had helped the Demon Domain. It would be truly tragic if he turned into the universally despised Wolf King.
“If there’s time, we can have a proper chat.”
“Not afraid that by tomorrow morning, you’ll have no clothes to wear.” Ling Qianxiu had finished writing the letter, sealed it in an envelope, and handed it to Ye Chen.
Ye Chen quickly caught it and said, “We can be confidants.”
Knowing that this guy was surrounded by proper ladies, she smiled and said, “Becoming confidants with a girl like me, aren’t you afraid of being laughed at by others?”
“Heh, let them laugh if they like it. The most important thing is to enjoy the conversation ourselves.”
“You should still go and save yourself.”
“Personally, I’m really thankful.”
Ye Chen took the letter and left the room.
Li Mo was anxiously waiting outside.
“Hey, dummy, let’s go,” Ye Chen said as he walked ahead with a smile, “She’s really interesting, a very interesting girl.”
“Interesting, you haven’t been charmed by her, have you?” Li Mo asked with a hint of caution.
“I really should’ve listened to her sing a piece.”
Walking on the street, they finally met Cang Jianglong at a tavern, just as Ling Qianxiu had directed.
Cang Jianglong looked at the letter that was handed over with some surprise, because Ling Qianxiu rarely wrote personal letters to him. He immediately asked, “What’s your relationship with Miss Xiu’er?” Clearly, there was a hint of hostility, probably because the other man was too handsome.
Ye Chen hurriedly replied, “No relationship, it’s the first time we’ve met.”
How could Cang Jianglong believe that? Ling Qianxiu rarely wrote to him, yet she wrote a letter for a stranger, and he dared say it was their first meeting; how could he not be suspicious?
Ye Chen quickly added, “She was worried you wouldn’t want to help me, that’s why she wrote the letter.”
Cang Jianglong gave him a cold look.
“I’m telling the truth.”
Even if he didn’t say those words, Cang Jianglong would have helped him; how could he not when Miss Qianxiu personally wrote him a letter? But he couldn’t help wonder if this handsome guy had any special relationship with Miss Xiu’er, prompting an instantaneous surge of jealousy.
