Chapter 255 - 255 243 Crawled into the Clothes
Chapter 255: Chapter 243: Crawled into the Clothes Chapter 255: Chapter 243: Crawled into the Clothes “Always keep those things away from below,”
Ye Chen shouted, “There are two on your clothes.”
Ling’er got terrified, she was frantically flapping around as if she was possessed. But Ye Chen flashed twice and sliced them off. Ling’er, who was spinning around in confusion, had no idea. She still thought they were still on her. Thinking of the deathly state of those people, she felt scared and kept jumping around.
Ye Chen said, “They are burrowing into your clothes, hurry.”
Frightened, Ling’er quickly shed her outer layers, Ye Chen watched her from the side, chuckling quietly.
In her panic, Ling’er heard laughter and realized that he was messing with her.
If she didn’t notice it soon, she could’ve been stripped. “You son of a…” She lunged at him, trying to whack him like a fly.
“Keep it coming!”
Ling’er quickly dressed herself and landed a hard kick.
“Ouch, it’s okay. Only I saw you undress. We’re practically married, what’s there to fear? It’s not the first time anyway.”
“You…”
Ye Chen glanced below. Some were already climbing the lower city walls following the gradient. Ye Chen started to brainstorm strategies to drive those away.
He shouted, “Quickly find a way out. Once it gets crowded, it won’t be a sight just for me.”
At this time, someone discovered that fire could repel those things.
Jiang Zhuge quickly prepared a large number of torches.
He saw Ye Chen and Ling’er on the second floor of an inn nearby.
Jiang Zhuge yelled, “Ye Chen, these things are afraid of fire, get torches ready.”
Seeing this, the folks below each picked up torches and started using them for defense. The torches provided them with a newfound defense mechanism and an edge against the creatures. Their confidence was boosted as they started to fight back.
Ye Chen procured two torches, gave one to Ling’er and then cautioned, “Be careful, don’t let these things jump on you again. It won’t be as simple as removing your clothes this time.”
“Are you done yet?”
“Follow me, we are heading downstairs.”
At last, they had found a way to counter those things.
Ye Chen led Ling’er downstairs. By now, everyone was no longer afraid and their confidence was blooming. But Jiang Zhuge knew that these monsters could not be kept around. They could harm so many townsfolk. He hollered, “Don’t let any of them escape, burn all you can!”
Ye Chen pushed the door open and stepped outside.
He started thinking of ways to eliminate those things.
After cleaning up those things, dusk set in without them realizing it.
Jiang Zhuge asked, “None of you got bit, right?”
“We should be fine. If we got bitten, we would’ve gone mad by now,” Ye Chen replied.
“That’s good then.”
Ye Chen looked at Ling’er and said, “You should check your bag thoroughly. If you’re carrying even one of these things back into the room, you’re in for a rough night.”
“They’re in your bag, not mine!” Ling’er snapped back.
The killing sounds from outside had stopped. It had become quiet and the sites that were burning had been put out.
Ye Chen said, “It should be all clean now, right?”
“Don’t worry, I have people staying behind. If anything happens, there will be people here to deal with it,” Jiang Zhuge assured.
By now, they had found a way to manage the situation and had mostly cleaned up.
Ye Chen nodded then asked, “How are those who got poisoned?”
“Their lives are no longer in danger. You can rest easy.”
Ye Chen said, “Well, I will leave everything here to you. I am heading back.”
“Sure, go back and have dinner.”
Ye Chen said, “I wonder if they will attack the city tonight.”
“They have been fighting all day, just like us. We’re all in the same boat.”
Ye Chen nodded.
When they returned to the courtyard, it was pitch-black. Ling’er was tired from the day’s activities too. As soon as she entered the courtyard, Cui Mengyan and Wan Lan brought in some food.
Ling’er glanced at Meng Yan, “Meng Yan, did you go out this afternoon?” she knew the question was good as redundant.
“No,” Meng Yan set the food on the table.
Ling’er did not continue the conversation. If this girl knew martial arts and roamed around the city, how would she justify looking so disheveled that night? Could it have been a mistake?
That’s not possible. Ling’er had been pondering about it all day. Who exactly was this girl, she began to wonder.
Ye Chen was quite hungry as he didn’t have much for lunch.
He didn’t quite believe what Ling’er had said.
“Nice, a whole day of slaying and we still have a decent meal. Quite comforting,” Ye Chen said.
“You’re so easily placated? Don’t you need a couple of maids to give you a back massage?” Ling’er suggested.
“Will you give me a back massage?”
“Hehe, do you need a hammer?”
“Can’t you be a little gentle? Seriously, no one’s going to want you,” warned Ye Chen.
“We’re practically married, who’s not going to want me?” Wan Lan chimed in.
“Who’s getting married?” Both of them said at the same time.
Suddenly, everyone stopped talking as if they’d suddenly become shy.
Soon after, Meng Yan and Wan Lan left.
Ling’er said, “I’m certain that the person I saw this afternoon was Meng Yan.”
“Hehe, maybe you’re seeing things,” Ye Chen continued to eat.
“No way, I don’t get things wrong.”
Ye Chen laughed and said, “You’re so eager to fault others, even if you didn’t see anything, you’d insist you did.”
“Hey, do you really think I’m that type of person?”
“No idea.”
A slap was then thrown his way.
Ye Chen dodged it.
Ye Chen tore off a roast chicken leg.
Ling’er said, “I have to find out.” It seemed she wouldn’t be satisfied until she did.
“Could you please not meddle?”
“So, you think I’m a troublemaker, don’t you?”
Ye Chen just said three words: “No idea.”
“I knew you wouldn’t believe me.”
Ye Chen chuckled and continued eating, then he said, “It’s not my problem. After finishing this meal, I need to take a good bath. I’ve been sweating all day from the fight.”
Ling’er kept thinking about how she could convince Ye Chen about that girl’s martial arts ability.
“You better wash up too, you don’t want those things laying eggs on you.”
“They would lay eggs on you.”
“That’s why I need to clean myself up.” Ye Chen nibbled on the roast chicken, nodding in agreement, and said: “Having a home is pretty good. At least I can have a full meal when I return.”
“Having a wife would be even better,” Ling’er replied.
Ye Chen smiled faintly and said, “You’re right. If I had a wife, I wouldn’t be so lonely at night. I should ask your dad what he thinks. If he doesn’t plan to officially give his daughter to me, he should set me free. I still have time to marry another woman.”
Ling’er yelled, “Yeah, hurry on!”
“Yes, we should speed things up.”
Someone from Wei Sisan’s team came over to announce something important.
“Ye Chen, the Sect Leader wants to see you. He asks that you go over now.”
Ye Chen joked, “He’s not going to force me to marry his daughter, is he?”
The subordinate smirked and replied, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask the Sect Leader.”
“Could you tell him for me that happiness can’t be forced?”
Smiling, the man left Ye Chen.
Ye Chen murmured to himself, “This is so damned annoying. I just got back and can’t even take a bath. This is no way to live.”
Ling’er glared at him.
Ye Chen continued to eat eagerly.
“What is it?”
“Can’t you be a little more normal?”
“Am I being abnormal now?”
“I think you’re close to going crazy.” Ling’er retorted.
Ye Chen gulped down some soup. His belly was almost full. He stood up, taking a moment to steady himself. Wan Lan and Meng Yan entered from outside. “Prepare some hot water for me. I’m going to have a bath when I come back,” he ordered.
“We have water for washing feet, do you want that?” asked Wan Lan.
Meng Yan, however, reassured him, “Don’t worry, I’ll get it ready.”
Ling’er looked at Ye Chen, who then said to her, “You should wash up too. If those things actually lay eggs on you, it’ll be a disaster when a monster is born.”
A slap swung his way, Ye Chen leapt out of the way and exited through the main gate.
Shen Tian met with the Zen Master and confirmed, “No mistake about it, that young guy has learned the martial arts of the Dragon Clan.”
“How are his martial arts skills?” asked the Zen Master.
“I can’t beat him.”
Shocked and disbelieving, the Zen Master asked, “Really? Are you just being modest?”
“No, it’s true. I have no confidence in beating him. He seems to have extraordinary power.” The Zen Master confessed.
“Extraordinary power which you don’t understand?”
“I don’t know. Whatever it is, it’s very powerful. I have no confidence to take him down.”
If Shen Tian claimed this, then the young man must truly be formidable.
Shen Tian asked, “So, did you find a way to break into the city?”
“How could it be that easy?”
Shen Tian nodded and said, “It seems we have underestimated Wei Sisan.”
“He must be skillful. Otherwise, he wouldn’t control the biggest faction in the Wastelands and govern Wasteland City.”
“So, what should we do next?” Shen Tian asked, puzzled.
The Zen Master certainly had a plan. He was now trying to understand the town’s defenses and find a weak spot. That was his current aim. He also knew it would not be easy to defeat Wei Sisan and it would also require patience.
“Did the message from Shura Pigeon come?”
The Zen Master shook his head and asked, “Did you see Wei Sisan today?”
“No, it seems Wei Sisan’s health isn’t very good.”
“We shouldn’t let our guard down.”
“Then tomorrow, we continue our attack and see if we can find any weaknesses!”
The Zen Master nodded and said, “Don’t hope that we can defeat Wei Sisan quickly. His strength is obvious. We still have time. Let’s continue the fight tomorrow.”
