Chapter 256 - 256 244 Fake Flaws

Chapter 256: Chapter 244: Fake Flaws Chapter 256: Chapter 244: Fake Flaws Wei Sisan probably guessed what the Zen Master was up to. The Zen Master was cautious and did not make an appearance today. This was within his expectations. It was clear that the Zen Master was observing, checking for any weaknesses in the defenses he put up, and preparing himself.

Wei Sisan was also observing; he observed the situation inside Wasteland City, looking for any shortcomings. If he were in the Zen Master’s shoes, he wondered how he would decide to attack.

Both sides were evenly matched. Today’s battle showed that the Zen Master had indeed come prepared. This was only the beginning, yet there was already so much chaos. He was concerned about what might happen tomorrow. His biggest fear was that there might be a gap in his defence that he was unable to detect in time. That was his greatest concern.

Ye Chen, Jiang Zhuge, and Kong Sha had all arrived.

Wei Sisan asked, “Have you all eaten dinner yet?”

“Yes.” Jiang Zhuge nodded.

“There haven’t been any other issues, right?” Wei Sisan asked Jiang Zhuge. Most of the matters that followed were now basically entrusted to Jiang Zhuge.

Jiang Zhuge replied, “Yes, everything is well. There were no incidents, except we did not expect them to release those creatures resembling poisonous scorpions. They are utterly ruthless.”

“Did many of our disciples get injured?”

“Not really. The situation is now under control. The injured disciples have all received aid and should not face any major issues.”

Wei Sisan was somewhat relieved and asked, “Have those things been cleaned up quickly?”

“Yes, everything has been cleaned up. Even if some are hiding, we already have people guarding the area and dogs to snuff them out. We will make sure not even one slips by.”

Can Mo said, “Sect Leader, today might just be the beginning. I estimate the pressure will be greater tomorrow. Some civilians living in the city, should we advise them to relocate, lest a large fire breaks out and threatens their lives.”

Wei Sisan nodded. He had also considered this issue and said, “Yes, Can Mo, your suggestion is very good. We should indeed have them move a bit further away. They can return when it’s safe.”

“Today was definitely just a probing attack. We don’t have many disciples to begin with. If a fire breaks out in the city, gathering them again will surely be a formidable task with the manpower shortage.”

“Yes, Can Mo, you organize this. Set up a settlement a distance away from the city center to accommodate those willing to move. Tell them about the potential dangers and what could happen tomorrow. For those hesitant to leave, let them decide for themselves.”

Li Mo commented, “I believe most are willing to leave temporarily. Who isn’t afraid of death? Who could possibly know what will happen tomorrow?”

“Yes, try to prepare good food for them tonight.”

Can Mo replied, “I’ll handle it.”

“Understand that today’s attack from the Zen Master was just a trial. So, bear in mind that the actual start is tomorrow.”

Yet Li Mo suggested, “From this we see, they are not as formidable as some people imagine. We give as good as we get, and there’s no reason to fear them.”

Some people cheered, asserting, “Exactly, they’re not as terrifying as some make out to be. We still stand a chance.”

Jiang Zhuge commented, “I just don’t know what other tricks they might have up their sleeve.”

Kong Sha said, “I don’t think they have any good tricks left. They probably will use any means necessary.”

“No matter what tactics they resort to, as long as we’re united, we can surely defeat them. We can drain their strength first, and when their morale is down, we think of a way to defeat them.” Can Mo suggested.

Many people agreed with this statement.

Wei Sisan said, “I should not have called you over tonight, but after giving it some thought, I decided to bring you all here. If anything comes up, we can discuss it together.”

Li Mo expressed worryingly, “Who knows if the Zen Master has secret informants within Wasteland City.”

Upon hearing this, Kong Sha responded, “Most probably they do.”

“Right, we can’t avoid this. After all, Wasteland City is not solely occupied by our New City Sect. There are many unknown people. It’s impossible to ensure there are no spies among them.” Jiang Zhuge agreed.

“Who knows how the Zen Master will attack us next.” Can Mo contemplated.

Kong Sha said, “Definitely, they will start by attacking, checking for gaps in our defenses, then look for ways to breach our city. It’s rather predictable.”

Wei Sisan agreed, “Yes, Kong Sha’s right. They’re looking for an opportunity. Since they’ve just arrived at our Wasteland City and aren’t familiar with anything, they’re finding our weaknesses, examining our strength, and observing our defenses as well as our weaknesses.

We’re now somewhat passive, which is why I’ve asked you all to come over tonight. We need to discuss what areas we might be lacking, how they might plan to breach our defenses, and how we can bolster them. Everyone is welcome to offer their views and exchange ideas.”

Everyone promptly fell silent.

Wei Sisan added, “If you have any ideas, feel free to speak up. Speak your mind.”

Can Mo said, “We are short on manpower right now.”

Kong Sha responded, “It’s the same everywhere. Of course we all hope to have more people, but we are what we’ve got. Everyone’s here. Over two thousand disciples, we have brought all of them out. It’s impossible to squeeze out any more people.”

The others nodded in agreement, clearly understanding the situation.

“Right, thus, we can only make slight adjustments. Unless necessary, we can’t make drastic changes,” added Kong Sha.

Wei Sisan spoke up, “I know everyone is under a lot of pressure. Just hold on for a couple more days.”

He paused before continuing, “Hey, imagine for a moment. If you were the Zen Master, how would you attack us next?” Wei Sisan was hoping to identify any flaws in their own defenses by gathering everyone’s opinions.

The crowd babbled a bunch of ideas, but they were all offhand remarks. They weren’t taking it seriously because the discussion lacked any constructive suggestions.

Ye Chen was sitting to the side, munching on sunflower seeds, and hoping to get away soon. He couldn’t stand it and just wanted to go back, take a good bath, and then get some sleep.

Wei Sisan asked, “Ye Chen, if you were the Zen Master, what weakness do you think we have, and how would you breach our city?”

Ye Chen was surprised, never expecting the Sect Leader to ask him. He replied, “I can’t guess that. I’m not the worm in the Zen Master’s belly, so how would I know what he’s thinking? I’ve never even met him, so I don’t know what kind of person he is.”

“What do you think is lacking in our arrangements?”

Ye Chen still shook his head, “I can’t offer a casual opinion because I haven’t looked around today, and I don’t know how we have arranged everything. I just helped around the city. I don’t have the ability to strategize. You should ask Jiang Zhuge for advice. His suggestions should be more constructive.”

Jiang Zhuge, however, commented, “Ye Chen is just being modest. He has been of great assistance in dealing with Shen Tian today. I wouldn’t have been able to handle Shen Tian without him.”

Ye Chen responded, “If Shen Tian is this powerful, I assume the Zen Master must be incredible too.”

Wei Sisan glanced at Ye Chen, asking, “Are you scared?”

“What is there for me to be afraid of? If I can’t beat him, I’ll just run away.”

“Can you handle Shen Tian?”

“I can barely hold up.”

Jiang Zhuge laughed and said, “Ye Chen is merely being modest. In my opinion, his martial arts skills are superior to Shen Tian’s.”

Ye Chen shook his head, saying, “I wouldn’t dare to think that way. I genuinely don’t believe I could beat him.”

“Even if you could only hold your own against him, that’s impressive enough. I know I’m no match for Shen Tian,” Jiang Zhuge admitted.

Ye Chen sensed Wei Sisan’s concern and suddenly said, “Instead of guessing what the Zen Master will do to us here and finding a weakness, why not turn the tables and go on the offensive?”

“Go on the offensive? You want us to attack?” asked Kong Sha.

Wei Sisan quickly intervened, “Absolutely not. The Zen Master surely has a trick up his sleeve. He came to us with a promise, self-confidence in his eyes. Going out there to face them isn’t the best course of action. Staying in the city allows us to utilize the buildings and weapons to wear down their forces.”

Jiang Zhuge agreed, “Yes, it’s not appropriate for us to go out and confront them at this time. We need to gradually deplete their resources until their morale dips and they are at their weakest. Only then can we consider taking that approach.”

Ye Chen quickly corrected them, “You misunderstood me. What I’m suggesting is that we show a weakness, lay a trap that the Zen Master can see. Just like fishing – we lure them with bait. Instead of letting the Zen Master find our weakness or guessing it ourselves, we might as well give them a false one to exploit. I am not suggesting that we leave the city to confront them.”

Everyone was stunned to hear this, finding it hard to believe.

Kong Sha exclaimed in surprise, “That’s a good idea! It would save us from all this worrying and turn our passive defense into an active trap. Then we can trap them and wipe them out.”

Jiang Zhuge added, “In that case, it really is a good idea. Rather than blindly guessing where they might find a weakness, we may as well present them with a false vulnerability.”

Ye Chen commented, “However, this Zen Master must not be a fool. If we design a vulnerability for him, we need to be clever about it. It can’t be too rough or they could easily see through it. But I think it’s feasible as long as we bait them skillfully.”

Wei Sisan studied Ye Chen, humming in agreement. Running his fingers through his beard, he acknowledged that this indeed seemed like a workable plan.

Kong Sha was now excited, exclaiming, “Sect Leader, this is a good plan. The Zen Master surely won’t expect us to be this daring.”

Wei Sisan stood up, dismissing the others.

Only Ye Chen, Jiang Zhuge, Kong Sha, and Can Mo remained.
