Chapter 1423 - 1423 1409 Searching Thousands of Miles

Chapter 1423: Chapter 1409: Searching Thousands of Miles Chapter 1423: Chapter 1409: Searching Thousands of Miles Ye Chen smiled and said, “If I promised to do it, then I definitely have my ways. Yun’er, don’t worry, I will find your sister.”

He was always like this, so confident. Yun’er said, “What can you do? Do you think you, alone, can search the entire forest?”

“I really do have a way.” Ye Chen turned to Luo Rui, who was still crying, and said, “Girl, stop crying. Give me a piece of Qing’er’s clothing, preferably one that hasn’t been washed.”

Guo Yuyun looked over, puzzled by what he was planning to do.

Ye Chen quickly explained, “You might not know, but after I became the Wolf King, I gained a skill to track scents. I’m not just bragging to you.”

It was only then that Guo Yuyun understood what Ye Chen meant. Luo Rui stopped crying and hurriedly took out a piece of clothing Qing’er used as a cover to sleep, handing it over to Ye Chen, who placed it in his chest.

Su Zhanze wanted to say something, and Hu Nanyue as well as Gu Xueyun also came over, paying their respects to Ye Chen; the situation was somewhat urgent.

Ye Chen asked, “Are you planning to go to the Immortal City?”

Hu Nanyue nodded and said, “Our plan is to have a decisive battle with them once we reach the Immortal City. Furthermore, Su Zhanze’s injuries have not fully healed, and the current situation is far from ideal, so we certainly can’t have the decisive battle with them right now.”

“Yeah, that’s the right move.” Ye Chen turned to Su Zhanze and said, “Then please take them to Immortal City.”

Su Zhanze didn’t speak.

Gu Xueyun, concerned, said, “Are you really going back to find that girl? You can’t have anything happen to you. You are the key to defeating Longhun in the future. Right now, it doesn’t matter who gets lost, but we can’t afford to lose you.”

“Yes, don’t worry. I’ll find her, and then immediately catch up with you all.”

“I think dealing with Longhun is the most important thing right now. You shouldn’t take this risk. If that girl is safe, she will surely find a way to get out on her own.”

“Ah, don’t worry about that, you just keep moving forward.”

Ye Chen stepped out from the crowd.

Guo Yuyun followed closely, and Yang Tao’er came over too.

Ye Chen smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I will find your sister.”

What could be more important to him than finding her sister? Guo Yuyun had no reason to doubt that.

Ye Chen turned around and said to Yang Tao’er, “Girl, I know you don’t really like Su Zhanze, but you really need to help him. You saw for yourself how powerful Longhun was. I was no match for him, and if you could help Su Zhanze recover his martial arts prowess as soon as possible, it’d be a great help.”

“Heh, you really like to stick your nose into others’ business,” said Yang Tao’er with a cold laugh.

“I’m doing it for the bigger picture. We never know when we’ll have to face off against the Dragon Slaying Clan, and the faster his martial arts recover, the better it is for us. I’m not helping Su Zhanze; I’m finding a way to deal with Longhun. If his powers don’t recover, I’m afraid I won’t be able to deal with Longhun in the future.”

“Got it, you’re the most righteous person in the world.”

“It’s not like that, I’m also doing this for myself.”

Ouyang Yue, knowing that Ye Chen was going to look for Qing’er, came over with some food and said, “Here’s some food.”

“That’s very thoughtful of you.” Ye Chen took the food.

“You better not find Qing’er and then run away with her,” remarked Yang Tao’er.

“You really have a sense of humor,” Ye Chen said, glancing at Yun’er, who was still gazing at him with sparkling eyes.

Just as Ye Chen was about to turn around, Ling Jian, full of self-reproach, came over with some people and said, “We’re coming with you.”

“No, I will find her. You guys don’t need to come.”

“But isn’t it better to have one more person? I can deploy the hounds to help find Qing’er as well.”

Ye Chen shook his head and said, “No, there could be who knows how many people in the woods. If you bring the hounds, it’s easy to alert them. If things go south, you might be captured too, and it would only make her harder to find. Rest assured, you know what my martial arts are like. There’s no need to blame yourself.”

Ling Jian had nothing to say in response.

Ye Chen had already disappeared into the dense woods behind them.

Guo Yuyun still couldn’t bear to turn her head.

“Don’t worry, Longhun shouldn’t appear so soon, and with the Wolf King’s magic power being so formidable, a few people from the Demon Clan shouldn’t be a match for him,” Yang Tao’er said.

But how could one just stop worrying like that?

“Go eat something, you must be hungry too.”

Ouyang Yue called out from the other side.

In the pitch-black forest, Qing’er had made a circle and could no longer distinguish which way was east or south.

If she couldn’t find the direction, it would be impossible to seek people from the Immortal and Demon Domains. To determine the direction, it seemed she could only wait for tomorrow’s daylight. When the sun rose, she would be able to ascertain the east, and once she did, she would know which way to go.

But she knew there were several monsters lurking in the woods. She had just been chased by some, running breathlessly and even losing her sword in the process, unsure if she had managed to escape them. Now her stomach was embarrassingly protesting loudly. With the night turning darker and the temperature dropping, what should she do? It was best to find a stick quickly, so if she encountered a monster, she at least had something to defend herself with.

If she had no weapon, she could only resort to biting and clawing, but her own nails were no match for those of a monster.

Was she really going to starve to death here?

It seemed she could only rely on herself now, and she couldn’t cry out for help since people from the Demon Clan might be in the woods.

Suddenly, a hissing noise came through the air. What was that? She turned her head and saw four shimmering green lights, perhaps the size of wild pears, drawing closer.

The trees on that side were swaying.

The four green lights approached nearer and nearer.

No, those weren’t gems—they were eyes, shining like a wolf’s in the night.

Goodness, they had seen her for sure. A deep and terrifying sound reached her, quite frightening. She couldn’t see the monster clearly, but judging by the height of the eyes, she could guess its size.

Her hands gripped tightly, holding the stick high above her head, ready to strike down at any moment, yet her feet kept edging backward.

She roared, “Don’t come any closer,” hoping to scare the creature off.

But the two creatures paid her no heed and continued to advance, now only two zhang away.

No, her shout had only angered them. Their hissing intensified, and with a leap, one of them pounced straight at her. She couldn’t make out what it was, but between those green glows was probably its head.

With a swing of her stick, she aimed for its head. Although she looked delicate, she was a martial artist.

With a crack, she exerted all her strength and made contact, sending it tumbling into the underbrush ahead. She saw it clearly—it was at least as big as an adult tiger.

Before she could prepare herself again, the other creature had already lunged at her.

She stabbed instinctively, but alas, it was not a sword. A sword might have worked, but though she hit it, it shoved her to the ground.

Before she had the chance to rise, the monster came at her again.

All she could do was swing wildly, only to have the creature bite down on her weapon. She tried to wrest it back with force, but she was merely a girl.

Against such a large beast, regaining control of the stick was impossible, and quickly it slipped from her grasp.

Discarding her concerns, she dove into the thicket like crawling through a dog hole. The monster tried to pounce and grab her but got tangled in the underbrush. She scrambled through hastily.

The creature she had knocked down earlier was now up again and circling towards her. She grabbed two stones from the ground and hurled them with all her might, then turned and ran.

But in the dense forest, the going was difficult, riddled with dips and bumps. How could two legs outrun four, especially when she was a vulnerable woman?

Panic made mistakes more likely, and in her haste, she tripped over something. With a snap and a sharp pain, she tumbled forward into a sprawling face-plant.

Covered in mud, her mouth filled with it.

There was no time to care about that. As she turned around, the two monsters had already leaped at her, her nerves shot, she used her arms to shield her eyes, as if not seeing would mean no harm would come.

A howl pierced the air. A bloody creature landed next to her, its monstrous head facing her with a hole in its forehead, seemingly pierced by a sword, its mouth agape, eyes not yet closed, but she could be sure, it was dead.

Guo Yuyun quickly recoiled to the other side, fearful that the creature wasn’t truly dead, a forward leap and it could easily bite her head off.

What had happened? Directly in front, a tall figure stood in front of her. At that moment, moonlight broke through the tree branches above, illuminating it. With his back to her, the figure was covered in long hair, certainly not human—humans are not that tall—his hands, possibly equipped with iron claws, glistened under the moonlight.

He was confronting the creature before him. What was this being? Was it human or a monster? If it were a monster, why would it help her?

Guo Yuyun tried to stand, but she fell heavily. Only then did she notice the severe pain in her foot. She had twisted her ankle earlier and could no longer stand.

Green eyes roared and pounced towards the tall figure, which clearly wasn’t human given its size and furry appearance, yet there was something eerily familiar about it.

As it leapt, the figure in front sidestepped swiftly. Before the monster could glide past, a hand chopped down like slicing vegetables, bisecting the creature with a wail, its body hitting the ground in two pieces.
