Chapter 1424 - 1424 1410 Time Changes the World
Chapter 1424: Chapter 1410: Time Changes the World Chapter 1424: Chapter 1410: Time Changes the World It was quiet, and then the hulking figure turned around.
“Don’t come any closer,” she said, suspecting that he was just a monster that resembled a human.
She saw the head of a wolf, but then its fur rapidly receded, and the wolf’s head turned into a human’s. In an instant, it shrank by half; he was only wearing a pair of pants—for sure, if he’d been wearing a shirt, it couldn’t have accommodated the furry monster from before.
A voice came, “Are you alright.”
Qing’er heard it clearly, that very familiar voice, and remembering something, she asked, “Ye Chen?”
Ye Chen quickly walked over, already squatting in front of her. This time, with the help of the moonlight, she could clearly see his face—it was that monkey.
Ye Chen said, “Of course it’s me. Besides me, who else would be so reckless.”
An overwhelmingly excited Qing’er instantly pounced on him, wrapping her arms around him, catching Ye Chen completely off guard. He hadn’t expected her to be so emotional, and his heart hammered wildly.
Qing’er had always thought he was dead, perished at sea with her sister. Because of this, she had mourned for countless days and nights. When she heard he hadn’t died, she doubted in that moment if it was even true.
Seeing Ye Chen appear during the battle today, she confirmed it wasn’t a dream. Crying, she said, “I thought I’d never see you again,” and burst into tears.
“How could that be possible? I have great fortune and a long life; how could the heavens bear to let me die? I haven’t even continued the family line. If I went on like this and met my mother, she would scold me for being unfilial,” Ye Chen joked, finally prying open her tightly clenched hands.
She had cried so much that she had become a mess, and Ye Chen used his hand to wipe away her tears. He hadn’t expected her to be so thin, probably because of her recent emotional state, which might have had something to do with her worrying about him. Li Mo had been sending her regular updates, so she was aware of his condition and had gotten herself into this state because of her worries for him.
Just yesterday, Yang Tao’er had told him that when Qing’er learned of his situation on the Thirty-Six Islands, she immediately set out to find him, which made his heart ache for her. Smiling, he said, “Hey, it’s okay now, no more crying. If you cry your eyes blind, you’ll become a blind old maid and then no one will want you.”
Qing’er managed a slight smile, realizing she had been somewhat out of line, and started feeling a bit embarrassed. Her cheeks flushed a bit as she asked, “How did you end up here?”
“I came looking for you,” Ye Chen replied.
“Did everyone else come out to find me too? The Demon Clan’s people are all around.”
“Just me alone,” Ye Chen said, helping to remove the vines wrapped around her foot.
Qing’er gave a cold smile, her face full of disbelief.
“You don’t believe me? I’m telling the truth, it’s just me. Look how much I care about you.”
He was still the same, always that same demeanor.
Ye Chen chuckled and said, “To be honest, they did want to come find you, but they had no idea where you were or whether you had been captured. I told them not to come, they’re just a bunch of trouble. They might not have found you, but end up getting captured themselves, and then I’d have to rescue them too. How could I let them interfere with such a perfect opportunity for a hero to save the beauty?”
“With such a big forest, how did you know I was here?” Qing’er countered.
“I’m psychically linked with you, don’t you know?”
“Never serious, always like this,” she said as she sat down on a tree stump, adjusting her clothes and checking her injuries.
Seeing that she had stopped crying, Ye Chen felt somewhat relieved and said, “Well, it’s like this—I can transform into the Wolf King. Wolves can track scents. I got a piece of clothing from Luo Rui that you had worn, so I learned your scent. It was through the scent on your clothes that I tracked you down. Without that piece of clothing, did you really think I was a deity who could pinpoint your location in such a vast forest? If you had hidden, what would I have done?”
Guo Yuqing rubbed her foot, crying out in pain.
Ye Chen asked, “Did you twist your foot again?”
This “again” made Guo Yuqing lift her head, as if suddenly taken back to the year she was thirteen.
Ye Chen didn’t know why he had said “again.”
Both of them became embarrassed.
“Does it hurt a lot?” Ye Chen asked.
“A bit, but it shouldn’t be too serious. Just get me a cane, and I should be able to walk on my own,” Guo Yuqing said as she stood up and tried to take a few steps.
Seeing the bitter expression on her face, Ye Chen shook his head and said, “Better not. I’ll carry you.”
At that point, Guo Yuqing became shy and said, “There’s no need, I can manage.”
Such a stubborn girl, Ye Chen threw out, “Limping like that, you might twist your other foot too. Then, tonight, when you have to go to the latrine, someone else will have to carry you.”
The dialogue was so familiar. It reminded her of the events of that night when she was thirteen, and it infuriated Guo Yuqing so much that her face turned crimson, and she slapped him. But Ye Chen didn’t dodge, and the slap landed on his arm.
“Just kidding. But you really can’t walk with a limp. How will we ever get out of this forest if you’re limping? The Demon Clan’s people are all around, and we still need to find the people from the Immortal Demon World. Who knows if there’s a monster lurking nearby? We still don’t know,” said Ye Chen, who had already bent down.
Like when she was younger, Guo Yuqing still hesitated for a while.
Ye Chen spoke with a reflective tone, “My shoulders are very solid, not just anyone can ride on them. You’re getting a bargain.”
Qing’er had only just climbed on when she truly felt as if she had returned to the age of thirteen.
With her on his back, he said, “We need to get out of these woods first. There could still be monsters lurking, ready to pounce. Once we’re out, I’ll find you something to eat, alright?”
Resting on Ye Chen’s back, Qing’er nodded, her hands tightly wrapped around his neck and over one shoulder.
Ye Chen glanced around to confirm the direction and then quickened his pace.
Qing’er asked, “How is my sister?”
“She’s doing well. I won’t let her lose even a single hair,” he assured.
“Did Yang Tao’er find you guys?”
“She did.”
“Is she able to remove the magic power from you?”
“She said I’m still relatively normal, so it should be possible.”
“Then why didn’t she remove the magic power?”
Ye Chen replied, “If she removes the magic power, I won’t stand a chance against Longhun, so I’m not doing it just yet. We’ll deal with that after I defeat Longhun. But don’t worry, I’m quite normal for now, and I can control it—at least there won’t be any issues for the time being, so don’t worry about me turning you into a she-wolf.”
A slap landed gently on his bare arm as she protested, “Can you be serious for a moment?”
“I am serious. Yang Tao’er has done acupuncture on me, and for the time being, I’m controlling it quite well. Once Su Zhanze and I defeat the Dragon Slaying Clan, I’ll obediently perform the spell to make myself normal,” he explained.
Hearing him say that the magic power could be removed, Qing’er was naturally very happy. She said, “I heard that you don’t plan to be with my sister.”
Damn it, that must have been Li Mo spreading rumors. He quickly replied, “That’s all in the past.”
“So have you promised to be with her?”
After giving it some thought and not being able to resist anymore, he finally agreed, Ye Chen responded.
“Yun’er really likes you.”
“Yes, she’s reckless. I couldn’t outwit her, so I could only agree. Maybe it’s fate that we’re meant to be together,” Ye Chen continued, “She’s a crazy girl, throwing caution to the wind, saying she just wants to spend good days with me without thinking about anything else. If I hadn’t agreed, I would have probably been struck by lightning. Later, Yang Tao’er told me there might still be hope for me.”.
“Sure, after everything you’ve been through, you should be together,” Qing’er said, seemingly with another meaning behind her words. She had witnessed the unusual relationship between Yun’er and Ye Chen, and how deeply Yun’er loved her.
“The past while must not have been easy for you.”
“It’s been manageable.”
“How can it be just manageable? You’ve lost a lot of weight. Look, I can lift you with just one hand,” Ye Chen said while shaking a little to prove his point. He felt a pang of heartache, knowing she had refused to be with Su Zhanze. What kind of future would she have? Would she be alone? The thought made him feel inexplicably distressed.
“Once we get out of the woods, there’s a cave ahead. My clothes and food are inside the cave,” Ye Chen explained.
Lying on his back, she experienced a feeling of déjà vu. Six years had passed, they had grown up, and many things had happened. Ye Chen’s mother was still alive then, and so was her father. The sense of time bringing changes was poignant. Hearing that Ye Chen had agreed to be with Yun’er brought joy to her heart. Their coming together had not been easy, having weathered so much.
“Is it raining?”
If it hadn’t been for Ye Chen’s comment, Qing’er wouldn’t have realized she was crying. She quickly wiped her tears and said, “No, it isn’t.”
Ye Chen felt a weight in his breathing, suddenly heavy. He quickly deduced, “Why are you crying again?”
The word “again” made the feeling from six years ago even clearer, as though it had just happened. He remembered that the last time she cried, it was because she was on his back and had thought of her father. But Ye Chen didn’t bring it up, as Guo Mingyu had been gone for over a year, and he didn’t want to upset her by reminding her.
Nevertheless, this “again” word, even without mentioning her father, inadvertently made her think of him. She said, “It’s nothing, I’m fine. I’m just moved.”
This time, the sound from her nose was even more evident, and it was unclear why one’s nose tended to get stuffed when crying.
“I’m missing my father a little,” she admitted.
Ye Chen really didn’t know the best way to comfort her, only saying, “If your father were here, he would definitely want you to be happy.”
“I can’t believe it’s been a year since my father passed.”
“Yes, so much has happened in a year. And now, the situation has turned out like this. But I believe everything will get better, just like the sky clearing after the rain.”
