Chapter 1422 - 1422 1408 Breakthrough
Chapter 1422: Chapter 1408: Breakthrough Chapter 1422: Chapter 1408: Breakthrough Longhun was very confident, as long as that guy could entangle Longhun, Su Zhanze had a high chance of success. He had been watching from below for half the day and did not expect that the kid’s martial arts had improved so much that he could actually fight Longhun for a few rounds. He was very surprised and was considering whether or not to lend a hand.
Su Zhanze was of course very worried, because if something happened to that kid, dealing with Longhun would fall on his shoulders. So, he paid special attention to whether the kid could handle Longhun. If not, he would have to step in and help because he knew full well that he was no match for Longhun, especially since his own power hadn’t even recovered yet.
Unexpectedly, the kid held off Longhun amidst the flames and even managed to break free. Now he could focus on planning their escape with peace of mind.
Leaving the task of covering their retreat to Hu Nanyue and Gu Xueyun put him at ease since both were righteous and would surely risk their lives to help him break out. Assigning them to cover the rear couldn’t be more appropriate.
Gu Xueyun glanced around; the situation was almost as expected. “Just focus on breaking through,” she said.
“Okay, then follow closely behind us. Once we’ve broken through, we’ll help you escape as well,” he replied.
“Alright.”
Mo Ku of the Dragon Slaying Clan was shocked. He never imagined that things would turn out as Longhun had guessed, with a group of people from the Demon Domain actually appearing—and not just a few. Their sudden onslaught was unexpected. He once thought it was a daydream that the people from the Thirty-Six Islands would help those from the Demon Domain break out, but now he couldn’t dare to think like that anymore. He called out, “Elder Xi Feng, take some people and block the exit, don’t let them escape!”
Elder Xi Feng nodded slightly. She was to lead people to stop them, but mobilizing a group would take time. Furthermore, the Thirty-Six Islands fighters were at their fiercest; they just needed to clamp down on them, giving them no chance to escape.
Longhun had also noticed the change in the situation and wanted to turn back, but Ye Chen wouldn’t allow it. No one could withstand his power—no one would be his match. Although he wasn’t a match for Longhun, entangling him for one hour shouldn’t be a big problem.
“So you can spit fire, huh? Well, I can too.” He spat several fireballs towards Longhun, who had reverted to his original form.
Longhun sliced through with several blasts of energy, intercepting the fireballs instantly.
“Our battle has only just begun. Hurry on over, did you think you’ve beaten me like this? I have many more tricks up my sleeve. Got scared, huh?” He couldn’t help but swagger.
Longhun didn’t want to deal with him.
But there was no way Ye Chen would let him go back. If Longhun returned, who could face him? After much effort, he had lured him outside precisely to prevent him from interfering.
Longhun tried to shake him off but couldn’t succeed. However, he didn’t want to engage in a life-or-death struggle with him.
After finally escaping, he wouldn’t let himself be trapped again.
With a palm strike, he released several bolts of lightning, uprooting more than a dozen trees and sending them straight towards Longhun’s lake.
Of course, these were merely child’s play for Longhun. Thinking he could smash him with a few trees? It wasn’t that easy. With a mighty “earth and heaven split,” all those trees were chopped down.
When Longhun got rid of those trees, Ye Chen used lightning to roll up a few rocks and pushed them over.
Longhun unleashed a deadly move, and Ye Chen quickly dodged, leading him in circles through the forest until Longhun, in a fit of rage, set an entire area of the forest ablaze.
Ye Chen transformed into a wolf, one of the fastest-running animals. Longhun would not find it easy to catch up with him.
With Wolf King Body Protection, he wasn’t so passive; even if he sustained injuries, he could self-heal.
Su Zhanze’s powers hadn’t fully recovered; they were only at about forty to fifty percent. But that was enough. He wasn’t up against Longhun. With the Dragon Slayer Sword in hand, how could Elder Xi Feng possibly be his opponent? That’s where his advantage lay.
With one swing of the Dragon Slayer Sword, Elder Xi Feng had no choice but to flee. With Longhun unable to return, what could they do?
Soon, with coordination from inside and out, they breached an opening in the encirclement.
Seeing that they had broken through the encirclement, Su Zhanze seized the opportunity and unleashed a bolt of lightning, turning the small opening into a large gap in an instant.
Elder Xi Feng wanted to mend it but was powerless to do so.
With lightning released everywhere, only a fool would charge in; the rest could only dodge to the sides.
Su Zhanze shouted, “Chen Yu, Guan Yi, guard the gap. Don’t let them close it.”
Like fish trapped in a net, when a large hole appeared in the net, those trapped rushed out in droves.
Li Mo saw it too and commanded, “Hurry up and add to their chaos. We’re preparing to withdraw.”
Guo Yuyun looked ahead and saw Ye Chen, surrounded by flames in the forest, his figure intense against Longhun. She couldn’t help but worry.
Li Mo called out, “Yang Tao’er, it seems the Evil Spirit won’t appear now. Take Yun’er and get out of here first. I’ll cover the rear.”
Yang Tao’er took Yun’er by the hand, “Don’t worry, Ye Chen is not so weak. You don’t need to worry about him. We should hurry and go so they don’t get worried about us,” she said, eager to protect Yun’er. She couldn’t let anything happen to her; otherwise, Ye Chen would fight her to the death.
Unbeknownst to him, one hour had passed, and the signal for evacuation had been issued. Ye Chen turned back and saw that the land behind him had long been scorched. It was a desperate situation, and the sky had darkened without him noticing.
Luckily it was dark. Otherwise, Ye Chen didn’t know how he would have gotten rid of Longhun.
He was like a flame, leaving scorched earth wherever he went.
But soon he realized that Longhun was not pursuing him anymore, which was somewhat surprising. Why had Longhun suddenly stopped? It seemed he had given up, perhaps because he was tired. All these were very likely.
Ye Chen hid in the woods, and once he was sure nothing was chasing him, he came out again. He looked at the map in his hand and transformed back into human form. Now he had to find them.
Su Zhanze had managed to break through the encirclement with some people, but an accident occurred just moments ago, which was very bad news for him.
Chen Yu said, “We’ve run into people from the Demon Clan. They wanted to disperse us, but they didn’t succeed. Only a small group of people failed to keep up.”
“How could they come so quickly?” Su Zhanze asked doubtfully.
“I don’t know, but they did catch up with us, and we’ve lost over a hundred people,” said Gu Xueyun.
Chen Yu said, “We can’t go back for them now.” They had barely managed to escape; there was no way they could go back now.
The people from the Thirty-Six Islands also caught up, including Ouyang Yue, Guo Yuqing, and Yang Tao’er, of course.
Ling Jian rushed over and exclaimed, “Qing’er has disappeared.”
Guo Yuqing wanted to catch her breath, but when she heard her sister was missing, she turned around and asked, “What happened?”
Ling Jian explained, “It must have been those people from the Demon Clan who suddenly attacked and dispersed us. She might still be in the woods behind us.”
Su Zhanze roared, “Didn’t I tell you to protect her well?”
“She was following behind me, but when the monster beasts from the Demon Clan leaped down from the treetops, I feared we’d get surrounded. You all were ahead, and I thought Qing’er would keep up with us. It was only after we broke through the monster horde that I realized Qing’er had disappeared.”
“Damn it,” Su Zhanze punched a large tree in front of him, bringing it crashing down.
Ye Chen had finally caught up with them by following their scent.
From afar, he heard Guo Yuqing shouting, “I have to go back and look for my sister.”
How could Yang Tao’er let her do this? She called out, “Right now, whether Qing’er has been captured or not, we don’t know, and even if she hasn’t been caught, we have no clue where she might be. Even if she hasn’t been captured, she’s not going to just wait for us. Longhun is still pursuing us from behind.”
Ling Jian felt guilty, thinking it was his fault. In that tense moment, feeling like they were prey for the wolves, they were only focused on breaking out and escaping. How could he have anticipated that Qing’er wouldn’t be able to keep up? He said, “Let me take a small group back to look for her.”
Just then, Ye Chen approached and asked, “What, Qing’er didn’t keep up?”
“We ran into people from the Demon Clan halfway, and some of us were dispersed. Qing’er didn’t keep up, and she’s probably still behind,” Ling Jian said with self-blame.
It turned out that the people from the Demon Clan had followed after they learned that Longhun was angered and had received the pigeon message from Longhun. They had not expected to run straight into them, and in the confusion, they hadn’t realized some from Longhun had made it to the front. As it had gotten dark, their only thought was to escape the trap, fearing that Longhun might catch up. Everyone was only concerned with fleeing for their lives.
Ye Chen’s brows were tightly furrowed as he asked, “Is it possible that she was captured by them?”
Ling Jian recalled for a moment, then shook his head and said, “We were trapped by a group of monster beasts; she is likely to have gotten lost in the woods.”
Su Zhanze was in a foul mood. Although Guo Yuqing had disagreed to be with him, in his eyes, she would always be his wife. He shouted, “Supposedly!”
They had just broken out from the encirclement, and the people from the Dragon Slaying Clan were close behind. It was very possible that they would catch up; they couldn’t let these people be trapped again.
Ling Jian said, “I’ll take some people back to search.”
Luo Rui was crying quietly on the side, unsure of what would be best to do.
Ye Chen spoke up, “Don’t go. Leave this to me.”
“Leave it to you, how could you possibly find her alone? Now we don’t know whether she’s hiding, has been captured, or has simply gotten lost in the woods. And there are people from the Demon Clan behind us,” Ling Jian said.
Yang Tao’er added, “You can’t expect that she’ll come out just because you’re calling for her.”
Guo Yuqing also didn’t know what to do.
