Chapter 1421 - 1421 1407 Escape from Death
Chapter 1421: Chapter 1407: Escape from Death Chapter 1421: Chapter 1407: Escape from Death Longhun was about to go on a killing spree.
A bolt of lightning streaked across the sky, intercepted by Longhun in midair, and after a thunderous boom, Ye Chen appeared directly in front of Longhun.
Longhun let out a faint smile, “I hadn’t expected that after a year, we brothers would still meet. It’s quite a miracle. So, what now? Are you going to discuss the philosophy of life with me before we fight?”
“There’s no need for that, there’s nothing left to talk about.” Ye Chen’s expression showed little change.
“It seems you’re thoroughly disappointed in me; otherwise, you wouldn’t say such things.” Longhun glanced around at the fiery hell they were in and continued, “I too would like to keep things simple. You want to be the good guy, so I have no choice but to play the villain. We complement each other in that way. If there weren’t a villain like me, how could the hero in you stand out? The world is a delicate place, where only one of us can survive; it’s either you or me.”
“Why must it be this way,” Ye Chen still couldn’t suppress his agitation—after all, that was his own brother.
“In my world, this is reality; there are no ‘whys’. The world has always been like this—a zoo with layers upon layers. If you don’t eat others, they will eat you. If you don’t control others, they will control you. If you have the ability, climb your way to the top.”
“Do you know Shi Xueqin is carrying your child?”
How could Su Zhanze not know? He replied, “Oh, you’re aware of this as well, are you? That child should call you ‘Uncle,’ I suppose.”
“Can’t we live a good life?”
“Do you really think I’m someone who can live a good life? I know I’ve done many bad things and killed many people; no one wants me alive, and I refuse to just scrape by. Either they kill me or everyone listens to me.”
Ye Chen shook his head.
“Come on, I know you want to rescue them, but you’re not getting them out without showing some skill.”
“It seems you are truly beyond redemption.”
“Haha, you don’t understand your own brother at all.” In a flash, Longhun withdrew a stream of energy from the Sacred Spirit Stone and launched it at Ye Chen, knowing full well that if Ye Chen had dared to face him, it meant Ye Chen was confident enough to do so.
The Wolf King’s Ring instantly emitted a red glow; he clenched his fist, and the red light spread throughout his body, turning his eyes blood-red in an instant—he had summoned his Magic Power.
Without the help of Magic Power, he had no strength to face the attack; probably just one palm strike would have him lying on the ground.
This was the perfect opportunity to test the combined power of the Sacred Spirit Stone and the Moon Beast and to find out how strong they really were.
The energy released from the Sacred Spirit Stone shot towards him like a sword.
Ye Chen shouted and leaped into the air, suspending himself mid-flight; the fist with the Wolf King’s Ring thrust forward as energy burst forth from the ring, creating a whirlwind of power accompanied by lightning, charging straight into the oncoming energy.
A massive explosion echoed as both forces collided, causing a shockwave in the air between them.
Ye Chen was taken aback; indeed, Longhun was exceptional. With just a casual flick releasing energy from the Sacred Spirit Stone, Longhun had matched him evenly—and he hadn’t even summoned the power of the Moon Beast yet.
And yet, he had already used seventy percent of his strength.
This was not a good sign; Longhun was sending another, even fiercer attack his way. Ye Chen quickly became alert; he didn’t need to defeat Longhun in combat, rescuing those trapped within the encirclement was paramount.
Longhun released energy like an inexhaustible spring, one surge after another, causing the earth to tremble and shake. Ye Chen realized he just wanted to gauge Longhun’s strength but didn’t need to fight to the death. Therefore, he didn’t have to meet every attack head-on, instead taking Longhun on a chase through the woods.
Longhun sneered coldly, knowing exactly what Ye Chen was up to. It was merely an attempt to buy time to rescue those from the Demon Domain. He wouldn’t play along; with a Swift Movement Technique, he appeared directly in front, and without a word, the Moon Beast, like sprouting from the earth, suddenly spewed flames rushing straight towards Ye Chen.
Unable to evade in time, Ye Chen hastily released an energy wave, conjuring a Light Wave barrier in front of him; the tongues of flame struck the Light Wave, pushing Ye Chen backward.
With all his might, Ye Chen dug his feet into the ground like iron claws, finally coming to a stop.
The Moon Beast powered up, its energy seeming to increase tenfold in an instant, striking like a sword. The Light Wave reached its breaking point, cracks appearing, and it was on the verge of being swallowed up.
It seemed that Longhun had also summoned the power of the Sacred Spirit Stone; otherwise, the Magic Power of the Wolf King’s Ring wouldn’t have reached its limit so quickly. Clearly, the Wolf King’s Ring’s Magic Power was insufficient to stand against the combined force of the Sacred Spirit Stone and the Moon Beast.
Guo Yuyun didn’t see the Evil Spirit emerge, but her eyes were fixed on Ye Chen who was locked in a heated battle with the Moon Beast in the forest. Flames spewed from the Moon Beast’s mouth, completely engulfing Ye Chen, leaving him trapped within the fire, unable to escape.
It was obvious that Ye Chen was no match for Longhun, she needed to rush over and help Ye Chen break free from the encirclement.
However, Yang Tao’er saw her intention and pulled her back, clearly understanding what she intended to do and said, “Rushing over is pointless, one killing move and you’ll be torn to shreds, then you won’t be able to help Ye Chen, and you’ll just be throwing your life away.”
“But if I don’t help him, he won’t be able to escape, I must find a way to release him.” Seeing Ye Chen about to be swallowed by the flames made Guo Yuyun extremely anxious.
Yang Tao’er reassured her, “Don’t worry, he still has a Phoenix Monster inside him protecting him; he hasn’t even called upon the energy of the Phoenix Monster yet.”
Guo Yuyun then remembered this, almost having forgotten about it.
Ye Chen quickly summoned the Phoenix Monster, if he didn’t summon it now, he would be roasted alive within the encirclement. With a boom, the Phoenix Monster appeared, faintly discernible and released a surge of powerful energy. Ye Chen channeled the energy of the Phoenix Monster, integrating it into the Light Wave, preventing the Light Wave from being overwhelmed.
At that instant, his power increased by more than tenfold, successfully halting the fierce onslaught of fire tongues. Indeed, the Phoenix Monster was no match for the Moon Beast, but its sudden burst of energy was like timely help in a snowstorm, otherwise, he would have been directly devoured by the flames.
It was a narrow escape. If you all want to increase your power by acquiring a creature for yourselves, why wouldn’t I do the same? Even if yours is a tiger, ferociously powerful, I at least should have a hunting dog, no? A hunting dog may not be a match for a tiger, but it’s better than nothing.
Longhun was taken aback; he hadn’t expected that Ye Chen would also have such a creature attached to him. He had underestimated his brother, thinking that this time Ye Chen wouldn’t come out of it alive.
Still, it’s not so easy to just release such a creature and fend off an attack. No sooner had this thought crossed his mind than the Moon Beast’s eyes turned fiery red, and flames spewed forth from its eyes as well.
No way, spitting flames from its mouth is one thing, but from its eyes too? How is one supposed to fight that?
He couldn’t just stubbornly resist; even after forcing out the energy of the Phoenix Monster, it was definitely not a match for him, Ye Chen was well aware of this. He had to make a move, dodging left and right, trying to extricate himself. But the Moon Beast kept a close watch on him, making it extremely difficult to break free as the fiery tongues from its eyes quickly approached.
What to do? The Moon Beast was obviously intensifying its release of energy. He couldn’t hold out much longer.
Suddenly, several Immortal Beasts appeared in the sky, spitting out Fireballs that charged straight towards the Moon Beast. They were released by Guo Yuyun and her group.
The Fireballs hit the Moon Beast simultaneously, and not unexpectedly, the Moon Beast merely let out a few inconsequential cries. Perhaps it felt provoked, as it looked up and spat out four or five Fireballs at once, which struck almost all the flying Immortal Beasts in the sky.
Ye Chen quickly took the opportunity to break free; the flying Immortal Beasts had effectively saved his life. Otherwise, he really didn’t know if he would have been able to leave alive.
Looking back, he realized it was Guo Yuyun and Yang Tao’er’s doing. By now, more than two hours had passed, yet there was no sign of the Evil Spirit. It seemed unlikely that the Evil Spirit was there; otherwise, how could it possibly not show up? It made no sense.
On both sides, the conflict was irreconcilable, and Longhun had been successfully drawn away. Now was the moment to strategize an escape; clearly, it was the perfect opportunity for a breakthrough.
Ye Chen shouted, “Don’t come over here, both of you! Quickly, have Li Mo send the signal.”
Guo Yuyun understood what Ye Chen meant and called out, “Be careful.”
“All right, you two take care of yourselves.”
Guo Yuyun and Yang Tao’er retreated backward together.
Longhun was furious. The interference by those flying creatures had made him miss a perfect opportunity. He spat out flames again, trying to lock onto Ye Chen once more.
Having narrowly escaped death and finally broken free from the encirclement, Ye Chen certainly wouldn’t foolishly place himself in danger again.
After awakening the energy of the Phoenix Monster, although still no match for Longhun and the gap still wide, engaging in a fight with Longhun shouldn’t be too problematic.
The signal was sent, dispatched by Li Mo. Both sides were already entangled with the Dragon Slaying Clan, and with the Demon Domain collaborating with the people of the thirty-six islands from inside the encirclement, now seemed to be the moment they’d been merged into one force. The emergence of a third party was most likely to break the deadlock. The groups locked in battle couldn’t shift positions easily; they all needed some time, creating a prime chance for a breakout.
Su Zhanze had been waiting and beckoned over Hu Nanyue and Gu Xueyun, saying, “The signal has appeared, it’s time for us to break out.”
Hu Nanyue said, “I’ll cover our retreat with Gu Xueyun. You lead the others in the breakout.”
This was precisely what Su Zhanze intended to say. The key to the breakout lay in who would take the lead and who would cover the rear. The leader must possess high martial arts skills to control the situation and act according to circumstances. Those covering the rear would hold off any interference, creating opportunities for the others.
