Chapter 1013 - 1013 999 Iron Ten Thousand Bandits

Chapter 1013: Chapter 999: Iron Ten Thousand Bandits Chapter 1013: Chapter 999: Iron Ten Thousand Bandits “Why aren’t you anxious? We’re going to be trapped here,” Nangong Yan exclaimed like a restless monkey hopping up and down.

“I know, but at least there are the two of us, so it’s not too lonely,” Ye Chen said.

This guy was no simple person; his excellent martial arts skills, his ability to release lightning, and even call forth dragons, surely meant he came from an extraordinary background. She asked doubtfully, “Which sect do you really belong to?”

“Is that important? As if only a person from a great sect would be worthy of you,” he replied.

Nangong Yan thought again about the importance of the Sacred Spirit Stone, how it could attract various powerful experts. It was conceivable that he was lured out here, but she still wanted to know which sect he was from. His martial arts skills were so advanced, not even her father could match him. It would be wiser to be cautious. Seeing that he did not want to reveal his identity, she said, “We should think of a way to leave this place.”

Suddenly, the rumbling sound of drums could be heard. Although the noise was not loud, it was audible here.

The Red Demonic Spirit remarked in surprise, “How can there be drum sounds on a deserted island?”

Ye Chen also stood up.

The Black Demonic Spirit, as if hearing hope itself, said, “The drum sounds seem to be coming from behind us.”

“Could there be other people here?” The Red Demonic Spirit immediately grew excited as if seeing hope.

Nangong Yan, puzzled, asked, “Haven’t you gone to look behind yet?”

“Of course not, we’ve just arrived. To save you, we two have been busy finding food; there hasn’t been time to check,” said the Red Demonic Spirit.

Such a damn deserted island having other people on it really made one wonder if cannibals lived here.

“There couldn’t really be cannibals here, could there?” Ye Chen said.

“Stop spouting nonsense; you’re the one who looks more like a cannibal,” Nangong Yan retorted.

The Red Demonic Spirit grew even more excited, nearly rolling on the ground like a child. Just a moment ago, they didn’t know what to do, but if there were indeed people on the island, they would surely know what this island was, and they might even know how to get to Sacred Spirit Island. The prospect of regaining his body seemed very possible, how could he not be excited?

Nangong Yan’s wound seemed to have healed all at once.

“Let’s fill your stomach first,” Ye Chen said, tossing her the bottle of medicine.

She opened it and sniffed, asking, “What is this stuff?” The smell was indeed unpleasant.

“A girl gave it to me, said it’s useful for wounds. If you want to heal quicker, take one pill every day. Don’t worry, I’ve already seen what shouldn’t be seen.”

After hearing this, Nangong Yan snorted through her nose in vexation; she really wanted to pummel him.

Ye Chen stood up, the intermittent drum and gong sounds echoing under the sky.

Ye Chen turned and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” she said, wanting to leave Gu Island quickly to avoid delaying their journey to Sacred Spirit Island.

“All right then, I’ll carry you. If you really start bleeding again, then I’ll have no choice but to strip you to treat the wound.”

Nangong Yan was fuming.

“Come on, don’t be shy, no one will know. It would be strange if you managed to climb over this mountain without reopening your wound,” Ye Chen said. Then he changed the subject, “Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit, lead the way.”

The Red Demonic Spirit and the Black Demonic Spirit each grabbed a torch and led the way at the front, the torches flickering like will-o’-the-wisps.

Nangong Yan reluctantly got onto Ye Chen’s back.

They headed towards the forest.

Nangong Yan asked, “What exactly are those two spirits?”

“They are Demonic Spirits,” he replied.

“I’ve never heard of them before. Aren’t you afraid to be with them?” Nangong Yan asked.

“They are my two helpers, not as simple as you think. Their martial arts skills are quite formidable; a lot of people want to have them,” he explained.

Nangong Yan had never heard of any Red Demonic Spirit or Black Demonic Spirit before.

“They don’t suck out other people’s spiritual energy, do they?” she asked.

“Yes, they can absorb other people’s spiritual energy,” he confirmed.

The Black Demonic Spirit said, “Be careful, or we’ll suck you dry, turn you into a withered old granny.”

It was now midnight, and the path was not easy to navigate, with the sound of drums continuing to come intermittently.

“It’s comfortable on my shoulder, isn’t it?” Ye Chen said.

“Just be careful not to drop me,” she replied.

Shao Hengjiang had returned after winning several battles, sinking the Cangqiong Ship, tangling with the Parrot Ship, and clashing with the Jinglong Ship, he could now confidently face Qiandu Xiang. Next, he prepared to head to Sacred Spirit Island, but he could not just go there directly since Sacred Spirit Island would not welcome pirates.

He certainly had his own methods; he was to adopt a different identity, a deception that was not new to him. As a merchant, he would infiltrate Sacred Spirit Island without any fanfare.

Feng Ji entered the room. She knew that Shao Hengjiang wasn’t a truly bad person; he merely put on a bad front. His sinking of the Cangqiong ship was done out of necessity, and knowing that the Parrot Ship would soon be nearby, it wouldn’t take long for help to come. All those people needed was to stay in the water a while longer, and someone would come to their rescue.

All of this was calculated.

Shao Hengjiang was somewhat surprised to see Feng Ji: “You haven’t gone to sleep yet?”

“Hmm, I heard you’re going to Sacred Spirit Island,” said Feng Ji.

“Yes, that’s the plan for tomorrow morning.”

“For the Sacred Spirit Stone?”

“I want to go over and try my luck,” Shao Hengjiang had not always been a pirate, but once he became one, he needed to show a strong front. Without assertive methods, he couldn’t intimidate his subordinates. He harbored the ambition to unify the nearby maritime regions to reduce conflicts. Unification would inevitably lead to clashes ceasing, so temporary bloodshed could perhaps bring about long-term stability in the area.

His grievance with the Sacred Spirit Sect went back many years.

The relationship between Feng Ji and Shao Hengjiang was more about mutual respect, as Feng Ji knew there was a woman who held an irreplaceable place in Shao Hengjiang’s heart.

She expressed her understanding.

Shao Hengjiang was also assessing the situation within the Sacred Spirit Sect. He did not want to see the Sacred Spirit Stone fall into Qiandu Xiang’s hands. How could she not know the importance of the Sacred Spirit Stone? She was well aware of what kind of person Qiandu Xiang was—clear as day. If that guy got his hands on the Sacred Spirit Stone, Shao Hengjiang reckoned it would not only be a threat to the thirty-six islands of the South Sea but might also threaten the Central Plains.

Though no longer a part of the Sacred Spirit Sect, which wouldn’t recognize him now, a part of him was still defiant.

“You’re leaving tomorrow?” Feng Ji inquired.

“Yes, I’m leaving tomorrow.”

“Then during this time, there must be many things that need to be taken care of,” Feng Ji noted.

“Yes, there are quite a few matters to attend to.”

“I can’t be of help with your affairs.”

“Take care of yourself.”

It took more than four hours to get through the woods, and by then, it was well into the second half of the night. Ahead, they saw fires and about a dozen boats scattered along the shore, with people gathered in small groups.

“It seems like pirates,” said Nangong Yan.

“Pirates? You mean we’ve stumbled upon a pirate lair? That could be dangerous.”

Nangong Yan analyzed, “This is likely a transfer station.”

Indeed, it was a transfer station; if it were a pirate den, the defenses would not be so lax.

“A transfer station. Do you know which pirates these are?” Ye Chen asked curiously.

All he heard in response was: “Iron Ten Thousand Bandits.”

Ye Chen recalled what he had heard in the ship’s cabin, “I’ve heard they are one of the biggest pirate gangs.”

“They’re truly despicable people. My father and my martial arts master, Ke Yizhu, have long wanted to eradicate them, but they’ve always managed to narrowly escape.”

“If they’re pirates, what do we do? Will they help us leave this place and take us to Sacred Spirit Island?” Ye Chen noticed two ships up ahead, both adorned beautifully, docked at the waterfront, and commented, “I thought pirate ships were supposed to be very intimidating?”

Nangong Yan stepped down from Ye Chen’s back and responded, “They can also disguise themselves as good people. Did you think pirates would have ‘I am evil’ written on their faces?”

“That’s true.”

Red Demonic Spirit anxiously said, “How could it be pirates?” It was hard enough finding a group of people; to discover they were pirates was obviously very discouraging, as if hope suddenly vanished.

“They seem to be loading goods onto the ships.” Black Demonic Spirit observed the constant hustle and bustle of people shuttling back and forth. There were quite a lot of them, at least a couple of thousand. Some lived in thatched cottages, some in tents, and some didn’t seem like pirates, probably local fishermen.

Some were laborers. Ye Chen said, “It appears they are not all pirates.” He spotted some stray boats also anchored at the shore, clearly belonging to some local fishermen.

“Right, they are not all pirates,” said Red Demonic Spirit.

It turned out that the Iron Ten Thousand Bandits were not foolish; although they were pirates, they had a good rapport with the local fishermen. These fishermen could not only help them with cargo but also provide information about the surrounding islands. It was precisely because of these fishermen that the bandits had such a smooth flow of information, keeping tabs on the vicinity through them.

Ye Chen noticed a scattered gathering of fishermen on the shoreline. They seemed reluctant to sleep, singing and dancing, drinking merrily, and getting along very well with the ferocious-looking pirates.

“Let’s go and have a look.” Ye Chen was eager to find out what exactly was going on and whether it was possible to leave with the fishermen.

“Those are fishing boats. We could leave with them,” said Red Demonic Spirit.

Having retracted Red Demonic Spirit and Black Demonic Spirit, Ye Chen quietly led Nangong Yan around to the side. By this time, Nangong Yan was feeling much better.

Pointing to another area, Ye Chen said to Nangong Yan, “Miss, you hide here for a moment. I’ll go ahead and check things out, see what they’re up to.”

After all, the girl was too eye-catching and might easily draw attention.
