Chapter 594: Gift for Fei Chuan
Chapter 594: Gift for Fei Chuan
Zhong Cheng thoughtfully pinched his chin. "Hmm. There’s really nothing that Fei Chuan lacks... but any gift from you would undoubtedly make him happy."
Xu Tian agreed. "Anything that comes from you is precious to him."
Bei Sangyun sighed. "I know that. But I want to give him something special. Aside from cooking for him, there’s nothing else I can really do. I thought about buying him something, but I want it to be special."
"How about sewing? A handkerchief or a scarf," Zhong Cheng suggested, then immediately grimaced. "But... you don’t know how to sew."
Bei Sangyun’s face turned bitter. "Yeah..." She had tried sewing before, and Zhong Cheng had witnessed the result — a five-year-old could sew better than she could. She had no hope in that department.
"How about making a customized object?" Xu Tian suddenly suggested. "When I was in high school, girls used to give their boyfriends custom bracelets. There are a lot of shops that can help you with that."
Bei Sangyun’s eyes lit up. "Right. I can do that. How about a customized watch?"
Zhong Cheng perked up too and patted Xu Tian’s shoulder. "That’s a great idea. I’ll find a good shop for you." After lunch, he wasted no time searching for a renowned store.
He quickly booked an appointment and asked Xu Tian to drive Bei Sangyun there.
"I won’t be able to go with you. I have something to take care of at home," Zhong Cheng said suddenly.
Bei Sangyun was surprised. It was the first time Zhong Cheng had asked for half a day off for personal reasons. "Is something wrong? Do you need my help?"
Zhong Cheng laughed. "It’s just a family matter. No need to worry. I’ll be back tomorrow."
"Alright."
Before leaving, Zhong Cheng glanced at Xu Tian and gave him a wink. Xu Tian nodded in response.
The shop they arrived at was famous for custom watches, catering only to wealthy families and high-level businessmen. The renowned artisan, though already old, still moved with practiced precision and had many creative ideas, which he eagerly shared with Bei Sangyun.
She explained that she wanted their names engraved on the watch, and that cost was not an issue — it only needed to last a long time.
The artisan recommended materials such as gold and platinum. Bei Sangyun agreed.
While she was browsing the different designs laid out in front of her, she noticed the artisan’s eyes were fixed on her earrings and necklace.
"Do you want to see them up close?" she asked suddenly.
The old artisan chuckled. "Was I that obvious? I just couldn’t help but stare at such a beautiful craft."
"It is indeed beautiful." Bei Sangyun touched her necklace, debating whether to let the renowned artisan inspect it. "Before coming here, I’d already heard about your work. You’re the top artisan in the country—famous even around the globe. So I was truly happy when you accepted our request."
The old artisan laughed softly. "You just had good timing. At my age, I usually turn people down, no matter how much they offer. I’ve been busy with a personal project for a while. But recently, I hit a wall. I figured accepting a commission might give me some inspiration."
"How about taking a closer look and inspecting it? Although I can’t leave it with you while I’m away," Bei Sangyun said as she took off her necklace and handed it to him.
The old artisan received it with great care, as though holding a fragile treasure.
"A glance is more than enough. This is truly beautiful." His bright eyes were fixed on the pendant. "I’ve seen many stunning gems in my lifetime. For decades, I’ve traveled the world and crafted pieces for the wealthy. I’ve worked with countless types of stones and materials, but this... This is the first time I’ve seen something like this. It almost seems alive."
His awe-filled gaze reflected in the surface of the necklace. "This isn’t a blue sapphire or a tanzanite. What exactly is this?"
"I don’t know either," Bei Sangyun replied softly. "It’s a rare material — something that existed even before recorded history. Its origin and composition can’t be traced."
"If I were the same man I was in my youth, I would have offered everything I owned just to study this — even break it apart, just to understand its capabilities."
Bei Sangyun was about to say she wouldn’t trade it for anything when the old artisan handed it back to her with a gentle smile.
"But I can see that you treasure it far more than I ever could."
Bei Sangyun took back the necklace and placed it around her neck again. "It’s very special to me."
The artisan nodded. "Since you’ve shown me such a beautiful piece, it’s only right that I return the favor."
He turned to a locked drawer, took out a carefully rolled sheet of paper, and gently unrolled it on the table.
It was a watch design — but unlike any other Bei Sangyun had seen. Even as a layperson, she could tell how intricate and masterful the design was. The lines were delicate but precise, the structure both sophisticated and timeless. It was far more beautiful and impressive than the other designs she had seen in the shop.
"I’ve been working on this design for years," the artisan said with a quiet pride. "It’s my most treasured creation — my prized work. But I could never bring myself to give it to anyone or use it on my own. I always felt something was missing."
He looked at her with kind eyes. "But after seeing your gem, I had an epiphany. It feels like this piece has finally found its true owner."
Bei Sangyun was stunned. "...You want to use this design?"
"Yes, if you’re alright with it."
Bei Sangyun could already imagine the watch on Fei Chuan’s wrist — it suited him perfectly in her mind.
Xu Tian glanced at the design and nodded. "It suits him."
Bei Sangyun nodded firmly. "No matter the cost, I want you to give it your best. It’s your masterpiece, after all."
The old artisan’s eyes gleamed. "Don’t worry. I may be old, but my hands still work just fine. This may be my last piece, so I’ll pour my heart into it."
According to the old artisan, it would take about two months to complete the watch. However, since the design was almost finished and neither money nor manpower would be an issue, the time might be shortened to just a month.
It was already evening by the time Bei Sangyun and Xu Tian left the shop.
On the way back to the company, Xu Tian suddenly made a request.
"Miss Bei, I’d like to take a few days off."
"Alright," Bei Sangyun replied without hesitation. "I’ll let Fei Chuan know. You’ve been working hard — you deserve a little vacation."
She didn’t think much of it. With two of her key people taking a break, she figured the upcoming days would be quite busy. Before parting ways, she only reminded Xu Tian to keep the gift a secret from Fei Chuan.
When she returned to the company, she received a call from Fei Chuan — he told her he would come to pick her up for dinner.
Bei Sangyun’s eyes lit up. It had only been a day, but she already missed him dearly.
