Chapter 999: Chapter 104: Why So Fast
As a record creator, Yang Yi didn’t think it was a big deal.
He just flew the plane in the sky as usual, did a loop, and after landing, prepared for another takeoff. Even Yang Yi, who was accumulating flight hours, felt that flying a plane was just that - nothing special.
Of course, this isn’t the same as being arrogant. Although Yang Yi found flying simple, he definitely took it seriously and paid close attention while flying. He wasn’t the type to think he was invincible after just getting started.
After flying for four or five hours, he would rest for a while in his room, then continue practicing his "casual shooting technique."
It wasn’t really practice, just correcting his posture with a casual attitude to find the most comfortable position for himself.
Others practice to perfect their posture, Yang Yi practiced to make the correct posture feel natural. The goal was the same though: to shoot accurately. This could be described as ’different paths to the same destination.’
He was still shooting carelessly, but during his second visit to the range, Yang Yi’s casual shooting method had clearly improved in accuracy.
Ben was busy with his own stuff, but as the range got less crowded and he had some free time, he came up behind Yang Yi and after watching for a bit, said with great astonishment, "So fast!"
Yang Yi was wearing earmuffs, so he didn’t clearly hear what Ben said from behind. So he turned around, took off his earmuffs, and asked, "Is there a problem?"
Ben looked incredulous and said, "In just two days, you’ve become so accurate just shooting casually?"
Yang Yi didn’t feel much different from yesterday, but hearing Ben’s judgment, he was quite pleased and even a bit excited. He pulled the target paper back and looked at the bullet holes.
Now, Yang Yi was too lazy to change the target paper. As long as it wasn’t completely destroyed, he continued using the same one. The target paper had at least two hundred bullets fired into it, and the central area was significantly damaged.
It was evident that the bullet holes were denser near the center, until the holes started merging together.
Yesterday, the bullet holes were more evenly distributed across the target paper, but today the holes were closer to the center. That was progress.
It seemed that this casual shooting method was indeed effective. Not bad.
Ben took Yang Yi’s target paper, then said in surprise, "How did you manage this?"
"You taught me," replied Yang Yi.
"I mean, how did you manage to do this so quickly?"
Yang Yi shrugged and said, "If I find the right method, I progress quickly with anything I do."
Ben was stunned for a moment and then said, "But this is shooting; it highly tests your gun sense. It’s not a skill you can master quickly just by knowing the key points. You switched to a new shooting method from yesterday, and achieving this today is not normal."
Yang Yi smiled and replied, "Whether it’s normal or not doesn’t matter. The important thing is that there’s progress."
"But that’s not right! How can you practice so quickly?"
"I said so..."
"I know what you said, but it doesn’t make sense!"
Helpless, Yang Yi gave Ben a wry smile and said, "Then what should I say?"
Still a bit stunned, Ben paused for a while and then suddenly exclaimed, "Are you a genius?"
"That could be said."
"But before you were a genius, why were you shooting so poorly?"
"When the method was wrong, but once you taught me the right method, I made significant progress."
"But even if you found the right and suitable method for yourself, it shouldn’t have been this fast."
Yang Yi realized that Ben was a bit stubborn, going on and on about the same issue, and this would never end if it continued.
"Uh, just think of me as a special kind of genius. If it’s all the same to you, I’d like to keep practicing."
Ben still looked puzzled, he stared at the target paper and muttered to himself, "This isn’t logical, this isn’t right, this shouldn’t be happening, I get it now! I get it!"
Yang Yi was somewhat puzzled and asked, "What do you understand?"
"You had mastered this method before, you’ve always been able to do it, you just pretended you couldn’t, right?"
Yang Yi almost cried, he said helplessly, "Is that necessary? Do I really need to do that?"
Ben continued to be baffled, then he suddenly asked, "What else can’t you do?"
"Are you referring to shooting? I don’t know how to explain... I have a lot of things I can’t do, to be precise, things I don’t do well."
Ben took a deep breath, then urgently asked, "Can you hit multiple targets at once? And each one accurately, not in a sequence but random targets as they appear, can you do that?"
"I can, but there is no accuracy to speak of..."
"Can you shoot while doing intense activities? Like while running, or during dodging, can you suddenly shoot with a handgun?"
"Sure, but the problem remains, it definitely won’t be accurate."
A standard shooting stance, the most favorable shooting environment, these are rarely encountered in real combat situations. Most gunfights happen spontaneously, requiring running and shooting at the same time, or engaging in other activities while firing the gun.
If Yang Yi could do all these, he wouldn’t need to practice anymore.
According to the principle of learning to walk before you can run, Yang Yi has not yet systematically trained in movement shooting techniques because he can’t even shoot properly while standing, let alone while running.
Ben pondered for a while, then he suddenly asked, "Can you move and shoot? There are ten lanes here, and now it’s just the two of us, can you take a gun and move quickly back and forth in front of the lanes? I will tell you when to shoot, you can stop or you can shoot while running, let me see what your dynamic shooting level is like?"
Yang Yi promptly replied, "Alright, let’s do it."
Regardless of whether Ben was motivated by curiosity or simply had nothing better to do, Yang Yi agreed.
"Ready? Start, shoot!"
Yang Yi had just started running forward when Ben suddenly shouted ’shoot’, so he immediately stretched out his right hand holding the gun and fired one shot.
Unsurprisingly, he missed the target.
"Don’t stop, keep running, run, shoot!"
Yang Yi fired another shot, unsurprisingly missing the target again.
Fast and slow, after repeating this five times, Yang Yi hadn’t hit the target once, let alone score any points.
"It’s really bad, as soon as you move, you can’t shoot, hmm, most people are like you, but some can accurately shoot while running."
Yang Yi said, "Yes, I know, do you know how to practice it?"
Ben looked curious and said, "Why don’t you specifically practice this? I want to see how long it will take you to do it, as for how to practice... um, you should see how I do it."
Ben picked up a gun, a 9mm caliber, then he said to Yang Yi, "When I’m bored, I treat this place like a playground, playing around with shooting in various ways I can think of, because there are no other toys here, just like this."
Ben started running, he ran and shot at the same time, firing ten shots altogether, and he hit every target, which means if he were shooting at a person while running, he would have hit them.
Yang Yi began applauding, he sincerely exclaimed, "Ben, you really are incredible!"
