Chapter 983: Chapter 988: Hold Back
Flying an airplane is actually a skilled trade, just like driving, no matter how gifted you are, you can’t possibly pilot an aircraft right after passing a written test.
Yang Yi didn’t even know where the control stick on the airplane was, so how could he possibly fly an airplane?
Regardless, boarding an aircraft and flying it for the first time is too premature, so any person with normal intelligence would understand that Yang Yi was going to be in for a tough time.
As long as he didn’t vomit inside the aircraft it would be a victory, but if he threw up in the sky, especially inside his helmet, that spectacle would be too beautiful to behold, and Yang Yi couldn’t even bear to imagine it.
But no matter what, Yang Yi still had to muster his courage and board the plane.
In the T-6A, the front seat is for the student, and the back seat is for the instructor. At this moment, Hegelhaus stood up, leaned his body over the front instrument panel, and then said with interest, "Alright, let’s start from the very basics. This is the control stick, push it forward and the plane goes down, pull it back and we climb, this is the airspeed indicator, this is the artificial horizon, this is the fuel gauge, this is... enough, the rest of the instruments are of no use right now. Put on your helmet, we’re about to start flying."
Yang Yi took a deep breath, turned around, and asked Hegelhaus, "Did I offend you in any way, Instructor?"
Hegelhaus smiled and said, "Offend? No, not at all, everyone has their own teaching method, and mine is just like this. Now, buckle up and put on your helmet, we are about to take off."
Yang Yi wanted to say something else, but Hegelhaus smiled and said, "I’ll give you one minute to buckle up, if you don’t and your head hits the canopy, that’s your problem."
No need for further words, Yang Yi buckled his seatbelt as fast as he could, and as he was doing so, Hegelhaus closed the cockpit canopy.
The access ladder was removed, Hegelhaus started the aircraft, and by the time Yang Yi was hurriedly fastening his helmet, Hegelhaus had already begun taxiing.
Hegelhaus didn’t give Yang Yi a moment’s respite; he blatantly took on the posture of someone determined to give Yang Yi a hard time.
The airplane taxied for a very short distance before it started to climb. The feeling of sitting in the cockpit and watching the airplane take off wasn’t very pleasant, Yang Yi only felt fear, no thrill.
The main thing was that the control of the airplane was in someone else’s hands.
The plane took off, and having climbed just four or five meters above the ground, Yang Yi’s head suddenly buzzed and then it all went dark in front of his eyes.
Hegelhaus couldn’t even wait for the plane to climb a bit higher before he made it roll in the air.
"How does it feel? With your level of talent, this is nothing to you, right? So how about this next move?"
Just as Yang Yi was getting his bearings, the plane began to turn again, one circle after another, and after several rapid, consecutive circles, Yang Yi’s mind was completely befuddled.
How many circles did they turn? Yang Yi had no idea, he was now feeling his stomach churning like a tempestuous river.
He mustn’t vomit, absolutely must not.
Yang Yi clenched his teeth tight.
At that moment, Hegelhaus suddenly pulled the control stick, causing the aircraft to climb vertically at a steep angle in a large loop.
Performing such a risky extreme maneuver right after taking off startled not only Yang Yi but also the spectators on the ground.
"Wow! A climbing spiral!"
"A series of death rolls!"
"Multiple horizontal rolls, who is that lucky fellow up there?"
"Another death roll, my God, what’s gotten into our commander today, is he provoked? Reggie, what happened?"
"Dive roll! A dive roll is coming up!"
An instructor exclaimed with shock and wonder.
Yang Yi didn’t know what kind of trick Hegelhaus was pulling; he just knew he was about to die, probably from choking on his own vomit.
Yang Yi had no idea what he had been through; he just knew he had been spinning round and round, and if it hadn’t been for the seatbelt holding him to the seat, he might have knocked himself out by now.
But now things were different; the situation was not only uncomfortable but also frightening.
The plane flew very high, then started diving straight down, and as the ground drew closer and closer, Yang Yi’s heart tightened more and more.
If it weren’t for the fact that he couldn’t help but vomit the moment he opened his mouth, Yang Yi would definitely be screaming right now, shrieking like a girl.
"How do you feel? Not talking? It seems this isn’t thrilling enough for you, then how about this!"
The plane was already diving down, stimulating enough, but then Hegelhaus suddenly rolled it, spinning in circles while still diving.
"The controls are yours now; you can pull the plane up."
Yang Yi didn’t even know where the control stick was, let alone pull the plane up—he could barely hold up his own trousers, pulling up the plane was out of the question.
Yang Yi was about to scream because the ground was really getting close, and just at that moment, Hegelhaus finally stopped rolling and pulled the plane up.
He didn’t want to say anything, nor could he; Yang Yi only knew that he would never again provoke Hegelhaus, absolutely not.
The plane performed a large loop in the air, then aimed straight for the runway and quickly descended.
The flight lasted less than five minutes, but it felt like a lifetime to Yang Yi.
The plane landed, drove back to where Yang Yi had boarded, and a spiral staircase was moved up to it.
Yang Yi waited impatiently, very impatiently, until finally, the plane’s hatch opened.
"How do you feel? Answer me!"
Yang Yi wouldn’t answer any of Hegelhaus’s questions; as soon as the hatch opened, he immediately crawled out of the cockpit and hurried down the plane.
Yang Yi’s head was spinning, and he couldn’t control his body, which almost caused him to plummet down the steps when trying to exit the plane, but luckily, after clambering down the ladder to the ground, the first thing he did was to sprint forward.
But Yang Yi could no longer walk straight; he started diagonally, and after a few steps, finally vomited with a retch.
He didn’t bend over to vomit but sprayed it out while still standing, then staggered a couple of steps to the side and vomited again before finally collapsing to the ground.
He felt terribly uncomfortable and deeply ashamed, but then he heard someone nearby exclaim in surprise, "What’s going on? He actually didn’t vomit in the plane?"
It seemed that the outcome wasn’t entirely bad, but Yang Yi didn’t want to stay a moment longer; he wanted to leave quickly and get back to his room as fast as possible and then? Whatever he did, he certainly didn’t want to see that airplane again.
"Halt, where do you think you’re going? You’re leaving without my orders? Hahaha..."
Hegelhaus stood on the plane, laughing heartily, but Yang Yi couldn’t hear him anymore; he had only one goal, to get away from here.
"Now I believe you’re a rookie, and I see you’re a coward too, hahaha..."
Staggering forward, Yang Yi stopped, turned his head back, and said to Hegelhaus: "Coward? Just you wait!"
