Chapter 975 - 980: Why Not?
Chapter 975: Chapter 980: Why Not?
You should remember the kindness of others when you receive it, and even more so when you owe someone a debt of gratitude.
Paying off a debt of money is easy, but repaying a favor is difficult. For Yang Yi, some debts of gratitude cannot be repaid with money alone, like the one he owed to Danny, which truly could not be repaid with just money.
But the debt he owed to Clint could indeed be repaid with money. He had eaten Clint’s hamburger, causing Clint to lose his job, so compensating him with ten times his loss was more than enough.
One million US dollars, plus the loss of a beloved car, were what Yang Yi used to resolve a bit of the guilt in his heart.
But one million US dollars was indeed a bit scary to Clint.
Clint couldn’t quite believe his ears, he picked up the check and stared at it for a while before saying with a trembling voice, "But a million is really too much, I can’t... I can’t believe it, I really didn’t do anything."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "It’s what you deserve, I’m really sorry for involving you."
"Thank you! Thank you!"
It was Clint’s wife speaking; she covered her mouth with her hands, tears streaming down her face as she said, "This money will get us out of our current situation, our house can be saved now, I truly don’t want to live... like this anymore."
Clint stood up, he hugged his wife and kissed her forehead, and the two of them stood there, embracing each other.
The sorrow of a poor couple is manifold; losing a job, losing a stable income, sometimes it’s not just about a decrease in the quality of life.
What a moving scene. Yang Yi stood up, he smiled and said, "I won’t disturb you two any longer, so I’ll take my leave now, you don’t have to see me out, goodbye."
As Yang Yi got up to leave, Clint released his wife and called out in a hurry, "Wait, wait, are you just going to leave like this? Don’t you want to... to have dinner before you go? We haven’t had dinner together in a long time, uh, I’ve decided to quit this current night guard job, and I’d like to invite you to have dinner at my house."
Yang Yi paused, he started to hesitate because he was indeed very hungry now.
"Um, it won’t be too much trouble for you, will it?"
"No, no, of course not, it would be an honor if you could stay for dinner, it’ll be ready soon, I’ll go ahead and make it."
Clint’s wife hurried off to the kitchen, while Clint looked at Yang Yi for a while before saying with a wry smile, "Please, have a seat, actually right now I don’t quite know what to say, this surprise is too intense, and quite unexpected, I never expected such a dramatic change in my life."
Yang Yi sat down on the sofa, he smiled and said, "What to talk about? Let’s talk about racing. I do like racing, but I prefer Formula 1, the Dakar Rally, and the WRC more."
Clint was silent for a moment, then he suddenly asked, "Do CIA agents really have that much money?"
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "I’m a bit different, actually, the salaries for CIA staff aren’t that huge, a bit higher than police but limited, at least CIA agents don’t live as well as they do in the movies."
Clint asked carefully, "Is that so? But you give off an impression that’s even more... exaggerated than in the movies, at least you seem to be very, very wealthy and carefree."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "I’m different from others, my money doesn’t come from salary, hmm, that’s a little secret of mine."
Since it’s a secret, it naturally shouldn’t be mentioned, so Clint fell silent.
Yang Yi let out a sigh and looked around before saying, "I remember you had another car, besides the Camaro. Weren’t you working on repairing and customizing another one? Do you still have it?"
Clint shook his head and responded, "You have a good memory. Yes, I had another car, but I’ve sold that one too. However, now I can buy another car that I like and take my time fixing and modifying it."
After finishing his thought, Clint suddenly asked, "You’ve driven my car before, how did it feel?"
"Not bad."
"So, do you want to go for a drive with me? We’ll come back before dinner is ready, how about that?"
"Sounds good."
Clint told his wife, then took the keys that Yang Yi had just given him and went out to his car.
As the roar of the engine started, tears streamed down Clint’s face. When he suddenly floored the accelerator and burst out, Yang Yi couldn’t help but grab the armrest to steady himself.
Driving fast in his own car didn’t scare him, but being in someone else’s car was a different story.
"I have to go to my workplace! I’m going to quit!"
Clint spoke up with excitement on his face, but declared fiercely, "Our supervisor! I’ve wanted to punch him hard in the face for so long!"
"Why not?"
Clint looked at Yang Yi, who shrugged and said, "Don’t look at me, watch the road. I mean, why not? If someone pisses you off, then hit them until you feel good about it. Today, I mean while I’m here, I can fulfill all your wishes."
Clint was stunned for a moment before he exclaimed loudly, "This is even more outrageous than in the movies! Buddy, seriously, this is better than a movie. Are you really a CIA agent? Can CIA operatives really do whatever they want like this?"
Yang Yi chuckled, then focused ahead and said, "Buddy, don’t overthink it. Just go do whatever you want to do now, before I leave and you return to the life you want."
Clint took a breath and nodded, "Okay, okay. I know we’re not from the same world, but I really should take this opportunity to fulfill a wish. My captain, he’s an asshole, always targeting me just because I was a cop and a prison guard. He always embarrasses me. If it weren’t so hard to find another job, I would have..."
Clint stopped talking and began to collect his emotions, now and then caressingly touching the steering wheel, then throwing mock punches into the air.
After driving for about twenty minutes, Clint parked the car in front of a factory, and he and Yang Yi strode into the compound.
"Clint! You’re late!"
In the security room, a Hispanic man glanced at the clock on the wall, sat in a chair with his feet on the table, and said with a schadenfreude grin, "You’re ten minutes late. And who’s this guy? Why are you bringing someone unrelated into the security room? It’s against regulations, I can’t help you with that."
There were three people in the security room, all watching Clint. Clint took a deep breath, walked up to the team captain who was still speaking, and smashed a punch right down on him.
The captain tumbled off the chair in response. Clint let out a long breath and yelled, "Shut up, you bastard! I’ve got something to tell you—I quit!"
As the security captain’s nose bled, he clambered up in a mess and roared, "You’re done for, I’m going to kill you..."
Before his captain could finish, Clint punched him again in the nose, knocking the security captain to the ground once more, then shaking his hand, he shouted, "I’ve really wanted to hit you for a long time, and it feels so damn good!"
