Chapter 965: Chapter 970: Sense of Happiness
Walter’s care and closeness to Yang Yi were intended to make Yang Yi clearly understand that they were in the same boat, and if one of them leaked any information, the others would be doomed. Therefore, they had to stay united and inseparable.
How to quickly enhance intimacy and foster understanding and friendship? Taking advantage of Yang Yi, and then giving him the most freedom and special care within his professional scope, were all part of the strategy.
Yang Yi understood Walter’s intentions and had clearly expressed his and Walter’s predicament.
However, Walter’s approach was clearly not limited to this. Although he had two ex-wives and four children to support, given his position and income, did he really need to actively take advantage of Yang Yi?
Obviously, he did not.
With Walter’s status, why did he personally take Yang Yi to get his credentials, or personally accompany him to receive his firearm? As the head of security at the facility, he was very busy. Anything that could be easily handled by someone else should not have necessitated his personal involvement.
Was Walter a petty man, an idle person, someone who had nothing better to do than to worry about the domestic affairs of a new employee?
The answer to all these was no. So why did Walter do this?
It was simple. Walter wanted to make Yang Yi stand out from the others. He wanted everyone to know that Yang Yi was different, that he was under Walter’s protection.
Walter wanted to provide Yang Yi with opportunities to ingratiate himself; if Yang Yi did not take the initiative, Walter would do it himself in an almost shameless manner.
Walter wanted everyone to see his closeness with Yang Yi.
Only in this way, Walter would have reasons to quickly promote Yang Yi and to treat him preferentially under legitimate pretexts. This way, Yang Yi’s rapid promotion would not arouse suspicions.
He wanted everyone to know that his relationship with Yang Yi was special so that the preferential treatment Yang Yi received would be seen as justified—not because Yang Yi was carrying out any secret missions.
Whether Yang Yi understood this or not did not matter to Walter; as long as others saw the staged reality, that was sufficient.
Fortunately, Yang Yi grasped Walter’s intentions.
Walter was tarnishing his own reputation as he had no better alternative. Porter had unceremoniously dumped this mission on him. In order to complete it, he had to sacrifice his reputation.
Since Walter intentionally demonstrated his care for Yang Yi in front of many people, naturally, Yang Yi had to fully cooperate.
"I don’t have a place to stay yet, but that’s okay, I can stay at a hotel for now."
Walter didn’t linger. He gestured with his hand and said, "You’ve already received your firearm. Keep the pistol with you; the rifle can stay here. Take it when you’ve found a place to live. I’ll find you a place to stay first. Hmm, we provide dormitories for single employees, but you definitely won’t be able to endure the conditions there, so you can rent a nicer apartment."
As Walter and Yang Yi talked and walked, once they left, a weapons manager whispered to his colleague, "What’s the background of that young man?"
"I don’t know..."
Yang Yi and Walter naturally didn’t hear others’ curiosity and gossip; they didn’t need to hear it.
"I would like to buy a house, a better one, and also buy a few cars; otherwise, it’s still inconvenient. Do you have any suggestions?"
The forced display of wealth paused Walter’s planned arrangements for Yang Yi.
A moment later, Walter shrugged and said, "I’m still not quite used to the thoughts and habits of rich people."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "Making money is very easy, you know. Would you like to make some extra cash?"
Walter shook his head and said, "No need to say that; it’s unnecessary. You and I are different. You can have money, but there’s some money I can’t make."
Yang Yi immediately dropped the subject.
After a moment of silence, Walter suddenly said, "You can now accept CIA training."
"Oh, good."
Walter smiled and asked, "Do you feel the need for any specific training? I’ll talk to the training and education department. You can learn any skills you want."
Yang Yi paused, then quickly caught up with Walter’s pace, his voice filled with interest, "Anything at all?"
"Of course, any training the CIA has."
"I have a lot of things I want to learn, but the most important—um, flying. Can I learn how to fly an airplane?"
Walter laughed, clapping Yang Yi on the shoulder, "Flying? What are you thinking of? Helicopters? Fixed-wing transports, light aircraft, or maybe you want to learn how to use a glider? We’ve just started a new course on flight suits, taught by extreme sports athletes on how to use flight suits. If you’re interested, pick a course."
This is the advantage of being backed by a major country. Yang Yi, as wealthy as he was, couldn’t touch some planes, but now, a whole new world had opened its doors to him.
"What is available for helicopters?"
"Basic piloting skills, and also advanced skills, such as with armed helicopters and transport helicopters. Our training camp can complete all the basic piloting courses, and for advanced transitional models, we have joint training with the military. You can go to almost any air force base to learn the type of aircraft you want to fly. Uh, let me think, bombers are not included, you won’t be able to touch a B2, but you can fly with the B52."
Yang Yi was thrilled; his heart surged with excitement.
"I, I want to learn, both helicopters and fixed-wing, please help me get into the training camp."
Walter glanced around and then whispered, "Don’t you think it’s a bit unrealistic to learn everything? Just the basic helicopter training requires forty flying hours, and fixed-wing takes even longer."
Yang Yi hesitated, then whispered, "I learn quickly. I’m a genius."
"A genius?"
"Genius. Otherwise, how would I qualify to be here?"
Walter wiped his nose and said, "All right, I’ll sign you up for the helicopter training class first. As for fixed-wing..."
"Sign that up too. I can learn them simultaneously, at least sign me up for the basic training classes, I can do it simultaneously."
"Okay, the basic training for helicopters and fixed-wing airplanes are indeed together, sharing one airport. I can arrange for you to fly simultaneously, but try not to take up too much time. Anything else? Special driving, weapon use, psychological training, etc.?"
Yang Yi felt like a mouse who had fallen into a rice bin. He was genuinely excited and laughed, "As long as the schedule allows, I want to sign up for everything. It feels good to learn without having to spend money, doesn’t it? While I still have time, please arrange the training for me as soon as possible."
