Chapter 765: Chapter 770: Confirming Through Eye Contact
Yang Yi may deduce a conclusion with errors in the details, but overall, it should be fairly accurate.
All of this was Yarebin’s open strategy.
Everything Yarebin said and did was merely to buy time.
Annastasia was Brian’s emotional entanglement. As long as she remained unfound, Brian couldn’t possibly attack the Black Devil, and he didn’t even dare to show any hostility. However, once Annastasia was found, Brian could turn against them.
Yarebin needed time, and so he had to delay Brian’s discovery of Annastasia, but he couldn’t postpone it indefinitely.
At this time, Yarebin summoned Brian to come for a talk, but meeting face-to-face was secondary, the key was that he wanted to meet Anton.
Perhaps Yarebin had recognized Anton long ago, but why didn’t he acknowledge him at that moment? Instead, he chose to call Anton over afterwards, to perform some sort of ceremony, indicating that he formally accepted Anton into the Black Devil.
If Yang Yi were in the same situation, he would have chosen to recognize Anton when he himself was surrounded, then let Anton join the Black Devil as a means to extricate himself from the predicament.
But Yarebin was not Yang Yi. When he had better leverage, he showed no signs that he recognized Anton.
Now Yarebin has made Anton a true member of the Black Devil and has also invited Anton into their ranks. If Anton agrees, Yarebin certainly wouldn’t mind strengthening his forces, but if Anton refuses, Yarebin wouldn’t lose anything.
As long as Anton has some emotional ties to the Black Devil, he likely won’t take any hostile action against them. Keeping Anton in the Organization of Water could lessen the organization’s chances of becoming enemies with the Black Devil.
And then there’s Annastasia.
Yarebin said he wouldn’t set any more obstacles for Brian, because only after Brian found Annastasia would he truly lose any threat.
Think about who Annastasia is. She is KGB. Whether she is part of the Black Devil or not, the chances she would be their enemy are infinitesimal.
Once Annastasia is found, considering Brian’s feelings for her, how could he possibly continue to be an adversary to the Black Devil against her wishes?
So Yarebin met with Brian and Anton first, and then Brian could find Annastasia.
That’s not the end of it. Upon discovering that not Brian, but Yang Yi was the real leader, Yarebin immediately offered to cooperate.
How could they cooperate when it’s clear there was no possibility at the moment?
Brian was secure, and so was Anton. If Brian had been the leader, Yarebin would have had a double assurance, but with Yang Yi in charge, Yarebin needed another layer of insurance to ensure that Yang Yi and Brian’s people couldn’t threaten him.
It doesn’t matter that there are no specifics for cooperation at the moment. Having a basis for cooperation is enough. As long as there is no conflict of interest or immediate threat, Yang Yi has no reason to be an enemy of the Black Devil.
Yang Yi doesn’t want to be an enemy of the Black Devil, but the Organization of Water is indeed powerful, very powerful. Even the Black Devil must be concerned that the Organization of Water might cause trouble for them at this time.
Brian was very excited, driven by his emotions for Annastasia, and at the moment, he couldn’t focus on anything else.
Anton might be even more excited than Brian. That’s why he wouldn’t think about whether Yarebin truly being sincere in wanting to meet him and offering him a place was genuine or had an ulterior motive.
Only Yang Yi, the mastermind who had been hidden too deeply, was a character that Yarebin hadn’t accounted for previously, and also the one who exceeded Yarebin’s control. That’s why he had to make a last-minute decision about proposing cooperation.
If Yarebin had been prepared earlier, he surely would have been able to find items for cooperation. But since he hadn’t been ready, he could offer only a hollow proposition based on cooperation, without any substantive cooperative actions.
But it was enough. With Brian and Anton around, Yang Yi really had no possibility or reason to continue being enemies with Black Devil.
One had to admire Yarebin for not engaging in any shady conspiracies that couldn’t withstand scrutiny. It would’ve been best if no one knew his intentions, of course, but even if someone saw through his plans, there wouldn’t be any issues. This was the sort of strategy one could devise after gaining insight into the human heart—unable to control everything, yet able to eliminate as many unfavorable factors as possible.
Yang Yi felt that he had seen through him, so he was pleased, and he felt a little smug inside.
Brian no longer had the luxury to think too much. Right after Yarebin said he could call Annastasia, he was eager to make the call.
Now, there would be no more obstacles for Brian to contact Annastasia. Even if Brian didn’t look for Annastasia, Yarebin would have to make sure Annastasia looked for him. Yang Yi was very certain of this; he had great confidence in his own judgment.
But Brian didn’t share Yang Yi’s confidence. Wracked with apprehension, he naturally couldn’t maintain his composure.
"I hope you’ll keep your word this time."
Still somewhat excited, Brian stood up and said to Yarebin, then turned to Yang Yi and said, "Let’s go."
Yang Yi couldn’t help but glance at Yarebin.
Yang Yi kept his expression well under control; he wouldn’t let his inner thoughts produce any revealing expressions on his face. But it was that final glance he couldn’t help giving Yarebin that stirred up some ripples.
"Wait a moment."
Yarebin looked at Yang Yi with a hint of surprise and said, "To become their boss, you must have some exceptional abilities. You’re very young, and young people usually lack patience and aren’t interested in seeking the truth. But you... I saw something in your eyes. You seem pleased. Why are you pleased?"
Yang Yi was taken aback and said, "What?"
Yarebin smiled and said, "I understand now. You’ve figured out the purpose and meaning behind my actions, haven’t you?"
Yang Yi truly didn’t know what kind of look he had given Yarebin to suggest he felt smug. Was he really feeling smug?
On reflection, it seemed he indeed was a bit smug.
But could a single glance really give it all away?
Although Yang Yi was astonished, he still said earnestly, "Alright, I think I’ve grasped your underlying intent. That’s what I believe."
Yarebin laughed and then nodded, saying, "Yes, I believe you’ve figured it out. It’s not that complicated, and it’s no surprise you did. But for someone your age, it’s quite impressive."
After finishing, Yarebin actually stood up and approached Yang Yi, speaking in a composed manner, "It’s better that you’ve figured it out. Mutual trust is a crucial foundation to avoid misjudgments."
As he spoke, Yarebin actually extended his right hand toward Yang Yi.
Yarebin wanted to shake hands with him? Yang Yi was somewhat surprised, but he still extended his hand and shook hands with Yarebin.
After shaking Yang Yi’s hand twice, Yarebin, all smiles, said, "Let’s collaborate again if we get the chance."
Yang Yi also smiled and said, "Definitely, if there’s an opportunity, we should certainly collaborate."
