Chapter 766: Chapter 771: The Eve of Victory
When Yarebin suggested cooperation to Yang Yi again, he was far from dismissive, and Yarebin’s initiative to shake hands with Yang Yi was it recognition? Was it respect?
It was both recognition and respect, but more than that, it was Yarebin’s appreciation of the young man.
If one paid attention to the details, one would have noticed that Yarebin did not shake hands with Anton, nor with Brian, but singled out Yang Yi for a handshake.
Especially considering that Yang Yi hadn’t really displayed any exceptional abilities, why would Yarebin hold him in such esteem?
Yang Yi hadn’t bothered to think about the reason because he didn’t find Yarebin’s appreciation particularly impressive.
After leaving the hotel where Yarebin was staying, Brian took out his cellphone, and soon he dialed a number. However, during his conversation with Annastasia, Brian stepped aside alone, and the three of them, including Yang Yi, were unable to hear what Brian was discussing on the phone.
About ten minutes later, seeing the way Brian walked back, Yang Yi knew it had been a success, it had truly been a success.
Brian, his face aglow, strode back with a spring in his step. Once he returned, he immediately embraced Paul.
After a long, tight hug with Paul, Brian, choked with emotion, said, "Thank you, brother, I’m sorry, I... thank you!"
Because of Annastasia, although he had been set up, Brian had indeed betrayed his own country. He may not have sold out his brothers, but it was an indisputable fact that his brothers had suffered because of him.
What was rare was that under such circumstances, there were still people willing to follow Brian.
Now that Charles was dead, only Paul was left to share in Brian’s joy, his emotion, and his shame.
Paul gently patted Brian on the back and in a low voice said, "What’s past is past, and now, congratulations, boss."
Brian let go of Paul, nodded gravely at him, and then turned and walked towards Yang Yi.
Just as Yang Yi was about to speak, Brian hugged him tightly.
"Thank you! Thank you! From the first day I saw you, I knew you were the one sent by God to save me, it’s really true, I’m so excited right now, thank you! Thank you!"
After repeatedly thanking Yang Yi, Brian released him, then immediately hugged Anton, saying loudly, "Thank you, thank you, my brother."
Anton was somewhat resistant to Brian’s embrace but didn’t say anything, only muttered, "Congratulations."
Brian let go of Anton, then exclaimed, "I’ve got in touch with Anna, I’m going to Moscow, right now, immediately!"
Yang Yi urgently asked, "Is she waiting for you?"
Brian, his face beaming, said, "Yes, she’s in Moscow, I’m going to see her now!"
Paul, somewhat anxious, said, "Going to Moscow? If the Black Devil has any malicious intentions, it could be very dangerous. Can’t you meet somewhere else?"
Brian shook his head repeatedly, "No need to change locations. I can’t wait any longer, but you’re right. If Yarebin has any ulterior motives, then in Moscow we’d have no chance to resist at all. That’s why I plan to go by myself."
If they were to go to Moscow, it wouldn’t be possible for everyone from the Organization of Water to follow; there was no need for that. Moreover, if Yarebin really had any bad intentions, the Russian KGB could easily wipe out the Organization of Water.
But letting Brian go to Moscow alone was worrisome. Although Brian didn’t need anyone to take care of him, if something unexpected occurred, he would be without even a single person to rely on.
Yang Yi said gravely, "Let’s go back first. We’ll talk after we return."
The four of them quickly returned to their temporary base, and by then, Brian was already in a hurry to book plane tickets.
"If there are no accidents, there shouldn’t be any problems this time. Brian has already contacted Annastasia. He’s going to Moscow, and I will accompany him. But there’s no need for others to go."
Kate said with a face full of anticipation, "But I want to go too. What a precious love story. I really want to witness it with my own eyes."
Xiao Ran seemed eager to try as well, but after Kate spoke first, she didn’t feel much like speaking anymore.
Xiao Ran was planning to give up, but she quickly changed her mind. This was Brian’s affair, not Yang Yi’s. Why should she not go just because Kate was going? It would seem like she was avoiding Kate.
"I’m going too. I must go. Anyway, there’s nothing much for me to do right now," she said nonchalantly and then stood up. "I’ll go pack some things."
Brian wanted to say something, but in the end, he just gave a wry smile.
Actually, Brian really wanted Paul to accompany him to Moscow. However, there was a problem. Although Paul had forgiven him and chosen to help him regardless of the cost, this did not mean Paul had forgiven Annastasia.
In fact, Paul loathed the KGB operative Annastasia, the woman who had tempted Brian to betray his country. Despite the many years that had passed and the dilution of his hatred, Paul still felt a strong aversion toward Annastasia.
Helping Brian fulfill his wish was one thing; forgiving Annastasia was another. So Paul would definitely not go to Moscow to witness some reunion scene between the two. He would rather avoid it altogether.
Brian knew how Paul felt, so even though he wanted Paul to go, he would definitely not invite him.
Women, after all, tend to be more interested in emotional dramas, but there was no need for everyone else to go along.
"We still have one thing to do in Ukraine, but it’s somewhat dangerous there right now. Let’s put Justin’s commission on hold for later. It won’t be too late to come back after Big Ivan and Deyo’s war is over. As for where to go..."
Yang Yi hadn’t really decided where to go yet. The Organization of Water was like a rootless duckweed with no fixed base. Yang Yi was most familiar with the United Kingdom, but he couldn’t go there, so after pondering for a moment, he said gravely, "Let’s go to Germany first. Everyone, prepare to leave. We’ll meet up with you in Germany after we return from Moscow."
It was better to leave Ukraine, a land of trouble, sooner rather than later. Currently, they weren’t on clear terms with Big Ivan—neither enemies nor friends, but certainly not amicable. As for Deyo, that was definitely hostile territory. If Jethro spilled the beans, then they would instantly become a thorn in Deyo’s eye; it was wiser to avoid the area until Ukraine’s situation stabilized.
Zhang Yong suddenly spoke up, and then with a face full of regret, he said, "Too bad, I was actually looking forward to seeing what you would be like when you meet your old flame. I bet you’ll cry. Anyone want to bet with me? And then..."
After casting Brian a couple of appraising glances, Zhang Yong laughed, "I think you’d better put on some makeup. After all, you do look pretty ugly right now."
