Chapter 690: Chapter 696: Details

When it came to discussing the price, Yang Yi knew that the deal was pretty much secure.

Pyatov went to the warehouse with the now-dead Eugene to fetch guns. It wasn’t a big deal, but it was enough to show that Pyatov was undercutting his brother-in-law.

The saying goes, a dam is destroyed by ant holes. Many big issues start from something trivial. Right now, Pyatov stealing a few guns to satisfy his needs wasn’t a big deal. Even taking dozens or a few hundred at a time didn’t matter much because, for someone like Kanchelskis who handled large quantities of arms, a few hundred guns were nothing.

The problem was that Pyatov stealing these rifles to give to the gangs was definitely wrong and could cause trouble for Kanchelskis, yet Pyatov did it anyway. That meant he could backstab his brother-in-law in even bigger matters.

So, unless there was a surprise, Kanchelskis was done for, and so was Pyatov, who Chris had easily knocked out; when the nest is overturned, no eggs remain intact.

However, Yang Yi also worried that maybe Pyatov was just cooperating to save his own skin. Although Pyatov didn’t seem like a bright man, out of an instinct to survive, he might have suddenly become enlightened.

What came next was to see how Pyatov would quote his price. If he gave a perfunctory quote, then it was clear that he was just looking for a temporary fix. But if Pyatov quoted with a sincere intention to cooperate, it couldn’t guarantee that he really wanted to sell those cannons, but it would at least show some honesty on his part.

"Five hundred thousand is really too little," he said, "If you ask me, at least, at least two million US dollars!"

Two million dollars was a reasonable price; Pyatov hadn’t been too greedy.

Chris was still contemplating when Pyatov said in a trembling voice, "Two million, I really can’t go any lower. Any less would just be meaningless."

Chris turned to look at Yang Yi and suddenly said, "Calculate how much we can make from that batch of goods."

Without any hesitation, Yang Yi responded, "We can sell them for up to five million at most. That’s the highest price for such goods."

Chris began to hesitate again, but not for long. He then said to Pyatov, "Let’s go fifty-fifty. I’ll give you two million, and after covering the costs, I too can make a maximum of two million. To be honest, I was only planning to offer you one million dollars because that’s my bottom line. I have many brothers to support, and making so little from this deal won’t satisfy everyone."

Pyatov just mumbled but didn’t dare to speak. Chris waved his hand and said, "Buddy, don’t be so nervous. We’re negotiating business here, and negotiation is all about discussing the price. If you disagree, then say something. We’ll find a solution that’s acceptable to everybody."

After hesitating for a moment, Pyatov finally said, "I really can’t take any less. My brother-in-law has a lot of money, but I don’t. I need at least, at least enough to live on after this..."

Chris tapped Pyatov and nodded, saying, "That’s absolutely right. I have to admit there’s a perfectly good reason behind your demands."

Seemingly encouraged, Pyatov then continued in a low voice, "I need to get at least one million dollars. Otherwise, I really can’t make the deal with you. Because if I sell those cannons to you, my brother-in-law will never let me guard the warehouse again, and I’ll lose my source of income. And, I used to be able to get a few guns each time to have a good time over at Eugene’s, but that’s all over now..."

Chris shrugged and said, "It’s better if he’s dead, After you get the money, you won’t have to play with guns anymore. Well, okay, you must get a million US Dollars. The reason is substantial, I shouldn’t refuse."

Pyatov felt encouraged, and then he raised his voice slightly, saying, "I want to take a million, but I can’t just ignore my brother-in-law. Think about it, if I sell the cannons and take all the money, would that be right? I must, at least, leave a million for my brother-in-law. Otherwise, how could that be considered helping him? Even if he has to flee Odessa, at least I’ll have money to give him and my sister."

Jefferson looked troubled and said, "I’m a businessman, not a robber. Since I’m negotiating with you, not forcing you to open the door and haul away the cannon, I must respect your choice. But my brother, two million really exceeds my budget."

Pyatov looked distressed and said, "But, but..."

Chris suddenly turned his head toward Yang Yi and asked, "Is there a solution?"

After speaking to Yang Yi, Chris looked back at Pyatov and smiled, "This guy is our financial officer. Uh, there has to be someone handling the finances in business, right? Haha, he will definitely be able to find a solution that satisfies us both."

It’s essential to talk about the details, always talk about the details.

Chris was clearly deceiving Pyatov, pushing him toward a dead end, but why did Chris insist on discussing the price with Pyatov?

Because details were important. Chris would haggle over details with Pyatov rather than talking about how good the deal was, how necessary it was, those kinds of things. Once a transaction moved to the details stage, it meant both parties acknowledged the deal.

Discussing details could subtly influence a person. Even if Pyatov initially resisted the transaction, once they reached the stage of discussing details, he would begin to think carefully about the benefits the deal could bring him.

Moreover, if Pyatov made any requests and Chris agreed to all of them immediately, it would seem too frivolous. Whether a person truly wishes to make a deal or not, appearing too hasty naturally raises doubts about their sincerity.

Therefore, not only the price must be discussed, but it must be discussed for a long time, making it hard for Pyatov to get the price he wanted. Only then would he take the transaction seriously and strive his hardest to facilitate and complete it.

Chris passed the ball to Yang Yi, not to have Yang Yi finalize the deal, but just to make the transaction seem more legitimate.

"Boss, we’ve prepared a million US Dollars. If we have to go up to two million, although we can come up with the money, it will take some time. Moreover, our buyer hasn’t given us an advance payment, and given the buyer’s bad reputation, if we need to use force to collect the debt, the cost will be even higher, not to mention the possibility of our brothers dying. If we spend two million on the purchase, the cost is really too high."

Yang Yi understood these principles, so of course he knew what to do.

So Yang Yi didn’t offer a solution but instead began to dissuade Chris.
