Chapter 689: Chapter 695 Simple
Pyatov still wanted to struggle and threaten Chris, but his threats were clearly meaningless.
Chris walked over, wrapped his arm around Pyatov’s shoulder, and guided him aside; from behind, it was evident that Pyatov’s legs were trembling.
Letting go of Pyatov, Chris took out a pack of cigarettes, took one out, offered it to Pyatov, and said, "Smoke."
"I don’t..."
Seeing Chris’s glaring eyes, Pyatov shuddered at first, then hurriedly caught the cigarette.
Chris put one into his own mouth. Yang Yi pulled out a lighter, held it up to light Chris’s cigarette, then walked over to Pyatov and switched on the lighter.
"Thank you."
Pyatov still managed a tremulous thank you before lighting his cigarette.
Taking a deep drag and blowing out a smoke ring, Chris said leisurely, "Pyatov, my friend, of course I know that your brother-in-law is not someone to be trifled with, I know that, but I didn’t intend to mess with your brother-in-law, I am helping him, do you understand? Of course, I am also helping you, and as long as you agree to help me, we will be friends, brothers even. If you refuse to help me, then..."
Chris didn’t finish his sentence; he just looked towards the body on the ground.
Pyatov took a puff of his cigarette, coughed twice, and then looked at Chris, saying, "Help me and my brother-in-law?"
Chris nodded, then earnestly said, "Your brother-in-law’s boss is Big Ivan, you know that right? Then you should also be aware that Big Ivan is currently at war with Mr. Deyo Mather, do you know this?"
After hesitating for a moment, Pyatov finally replied, "I do."
"Good, since you’re aware of all this, then do you understand that Big Ivan is finished, he’s dead! Your brother-in-law’s boss is dead, Mr. Mather has won. In such a scenario, what do you think will happen to your brother-in-law? Hmm? You tell me, what will happen?"
"Dead? No, are you with Mr. Deyo... Mather?"
Chris shook his head repeatedly, smiling, "No, we belong to no one. To be frank with you, I’m Jefferson, Ghost-Face Jefferson. I’ve met your brother-in-law before. I wanted to buy some arms from him, but he refused. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
Chris said with an air of regret, "Your brother-in-law is a loyal man. He is devoted to Big Ivan, just as you are loyal to your brother-in-law. But, my brother, the situation has changed now, Big Ivan is already dead. Your brother-in-law continuing to work for him will only lead to his own death and will even drag your sister and you down with him. You understand this simple truth, don’t you?"
Pyatov looked stunned, "Big Ivan is dead?"
"You didn’t know?"
"I don’t know, I mean, how is this possible!"
"How is it not possible! The Americans took out Big Ivan, then Deyo Mather came to grab Big Ivan’s territory, anyone in the arms business knows that Big Ivan must have died early, or else how would Deyo dare to come, and if Deyo didn’t dare, how would I dare to come here?"
Righteously, Chris replied to Pyatov with a rhetorical question, shook his head, and said, "Buddy, Big Ivan is dead. If he weren’t, how could he tolerate Deyo Mather’s men wantonly grabbing territory in Ukraine, and how would I dare to buy arms from your brother-in-law, and get you to come here."
Pyatov, dumbfounded, didn’t speak, and Chris continued, "Buddy, believe it or not, listen to a plan that could make you rich."
"Uh, go on."
"With Big Ivan dead, your brother-in-law only has two choices, either to surrender to Deyo to save his life, but certainly lose his current status, or to remain loyal to Big Ivan until buried with him—there is no third way, such as him taking over Big Ivan’s business. That’s impossible because Deyo won’t tolerate it. Do you agree with what I’m saying?"
Pyatov hesitated for a moment, then he whispered, "Continue."
"Alright, if Deyo gets hold of your brother-in-law’s stock, that’s for certain, then what can your brother-in-law keep? He won’t get anything. And if Deyo kills your brother-in-law, then there’s nothing to even talk about. But what if we can now take some of the stuff from the warehouse and turn it into cash for you? How would that be?"
Pyatov, extremely conflicted, said, "But my brother-in-law, my brother-in-law... He wouldn’t agree to this."
"That’s why you shouldn’t let your brother-in-law know, buddy. Indeed, your brother-in-law is very loyal, which I respect, but his loyalty will get you all killed. He’s stubborn, refusing to adapt even when he knows there’s no turning back. But you’re different, I know you’re smart, buddy."
Chris said with a serious face, "If you want to save your brother-in-law, you should work with me. Let’s take out a part of the goods in the warehouse, and I give you cash. If things go south, you can still recoup some losses for your brother-in-law, right? After all, the arms will end up with Deyo. Why not sell them now while we still can and hold the cash ourselves? Deyo doesn’t know what’s in the warehouse. He’s already happy with the territory seized, why would he care about some missing arms? Do you think so?"
"But if my brother-in-law finds out..."
"Then don’t let him find out, don’t even let him know, buddy. I’m not asking you to betray your brother-in-law, I’m asking you to save him. When it’s time to flee because things are dire, you could come up with a significant amount of cash and tell him, ’Brother-in-law, we have money. No matter where we go, we can live comfortably for the rest of our lives.’ Think about how grateful your brother-in-law would be, how grateful your sister would be, and of course, his children. You would be the one who saved his whole family. Think about it."
Unconsciously touching his chin, Pyatov whispered, "Hmm, let me think about it."
Chris continued in a low voice, "I know there’s a batch of cannons in the warehouse, and I want that batch. It was your brother-in-law who told me about them, otherwise how would I know? But he doesn’t want to sell me the cannons cheaply, only willing to sell them to me at the price set by Big Ivan and then hand the money to Big Ivan. But why do it that way? Buddy, sell it to me at a slightly lower price, and you and your brother-in-law take the money. Or sell it at the original price, but all the money would be Big Ivan’s, oh no, that stock can’t be sold anymore, there’s no chance to sell, it can only be left to Deyo. Do you think that’s more appropriate?"
Taking a deep breath, Pyatov whispered, "So how much can you give me?"
Without hesitation, Chris said, "Five hundred thousand dollars, cash! Just agree, and this money is immediately yours."
Pyatov immediately shook his head and said, "Too low, too low! I admit what you’re saying makes sense, but even if you sell it cheaply to you, five hundred thousand dollars is too low."
Chris thought for a moment, then said, "Then you name your price. Speak up, my brother, don’t be shy. How much do you think is fair?"
