Chapter 691: Chapter 697: Just Simple

Chris let out an impatient sigh and then spread his hands towards Yang Yi, "Buddy, of course I know the difficulties we’re facing. But as you just heard, Pyatov has a legitimate reason to ask for more money, more than we planned to give. If this were a robbery, then I wouldn’t be asking you. But this is business, so I need you to think of a solution!"

Pyatov looked almost touched by the scene.

Yang Yi thought seriously for a long time, then shook his head and said, "Why don’t you just kill him and we steal the goods? Paying two million really isn’t worth it. I think it’s not worth it. Sure, the cannon is worth that much, but this deal itself isn’t worth it, boss. I really insist on a maximum of one million US dollars. That’s the price we agreed on."

Chris seemed really anxious now.

"Fuck! Fuck! You’re the money guy. Am I asking you to teach me how to do business, huh?"

"I’m not teaching you how to do business; I’m just offering you reasonable advice on cost control. Remember, that’s what you asked me to do. You said to stick to my principles because you get too impulsive. You always offer too high a price or go off killing people. You wanted me to remind you to control costs."

Chris ran his fingers through his hair and said, a bit exasperated, "Yeah, it was me who asked you to remind me. But, but this time it’s different!"

Yang Yi replied calmly, "It’s the same this time, boss. We prepared one million, but now you’re planning to satisfy his demand for two million. You asked me to come up with a solution, and the best solution I can think of is to stop you."

Chris retorted, annoyed, "Then think of a not-so-best solution, quick. We are in the middle of a negotiation, here!"

Yang Yi, somewhat helpless, thought for a moment and then said, "Boss, let me remind you again about the transportation. We still have to pay for shipping. We’re dealing with cannons this time, and we can’t exactly tow them behind a truck, can we? How are we going to get them out of the port and into the buyer’s hands? Shipping alone will cost five hundred thousand US dollars!"

Chris angrily said, "Damn it! Stop reminding me already."

Yang Yi spoke in a low voice, "We can only afford one million five hundred thousand US dollars, boss, at most!"

Chris looked back at Pyatov, and with a helpless expression, he said, "Ah, two million, that really is a bit too much."

Pyatov couldn’t help it, he whispered, "Is the shipping cost that high?"

Jefferson shrugged and said, "My brother, we’re dealing with cannons here. I’m an American, transporting cannons on Ukraine soil. It’s only normal to use locals for shipping, and of course, the cost will be higher."

Pyatov hesitated for a moment, then said quietly, "Shall I find a trucking company for you? Big trucks that can haul the cannons on top, not towed behind, and I can take the shells along with you too. Er, I can manage that because my brother-in-law often leaves the transport to me, and I know the people in charge of it."

Yang Yi was inwardly elated. What a stroke of luck!

Originally, the plan was to find someone through Jethro to haul the cannons away after getting through to Pyatov. So, the transportation step wasn’t even settled yet. But now, not only did it seem that they were getting through to Pyatov, but the transportation issue was going to be resolved all at once.

And then, Pyatov had just mentioned the shells.

The value of the cannons was high, but without shells, they were useless. Moreover, shells weren’t cheap, not at all. The time needed to transport the shells, crate by crate, would be much longer than the cannons. So Yang Yi, who had planned to secretly steal from Kanchelskis, hadn’t even considered getting the shells because he didn’t dare delay for so long.

But now, with Pyatov offering to take the shells along, what did that mean? It meant not only was the transportation issue solved, but so was the problem of transporting the shells.

Splendid!

Chris slapped his hand down and pointed at Pyatov, "Are you sure you can get the cannons and shells out? All we have to do is wait outside the port to receive the goods?"

"Yes, there shouldn’t be a problem. This kind of transportation is quite normal, nobody will ask any questions, and, besides, my brother-in-law is not around these days..."

"Oh, he’s not around? Where has he gone?"

Pyatov hesitated for another moment before whispering, "I don’t know, but I think he might be hiding, secretly controlling things from afar. You know, the situation recently hasn’t been very good, but he can come back at any time, so if we want to get this done it’s best to do it as soon as possible, the sooner the better, it’s just the price..."

Pyatov was no longer the lamb to the slaughter that had been brought here to be dictated to, he now truly considered himself a businessman.

That is good, really good.

Chris immediately said, "Two million! In US Dollars! It’s yours!"

Pyatov let out a long breath, then he smiled, "That’s great."

Chris turned to Yang Yi and said, "Prepare two million in cash for when the trade happens to pay to my brother, get it ready immediately."

Yang Yi immediately said, "Two million in cash is impossible; we must give it in two parts, or half in cash and half by transfer."

Chris was just about to speak when Pyatov said, "I don’t want cash."

Yang Yi and Chris both looked at Pyatov in surprise.

Pyatov shook his head, "I don’t want cash. Cash is too much trouble. I might have to leave Ukraine, and how would I get out of the country with a large amount of cash? Besides, depositing all the cash in the bank is inconvenient too, so I want you to transfer it all to me, and since you need the cash, you can keep it for yourselves."

Pyatov had actually gotten smart.

Money handed over in exchange for goods is a universal rule, and since Yang Yi and the others aren’t legitimate arms dealers, at the time of the trade, if they get the goods and don’t pay, they can just shoot Pyatov dead and leave without spending a penny, wouldn’t that be delightful?

But Pyatov actually didn’t want cash; he had truly gotten smart.

"You transfer the money to me, and I’ll get the goods out of the port, um, how does that sound?"

Chris spread his hands, "Are you that afraid I won’t pay?"

Pyatov looked down, "My brother-in-law has never been afraid of being double-crossed, but I’m not him. This transaction... To be honest, I really worry that even if I take the money I won’t be alive to spend it, so a transfer is better."

Yang Yi confirmed it. Pyatov was naive, but he was indeed naive, not stupid, at least he was quite smart about these details.

Chris took a deep breath, "Okay, transfer one million US dollars to you, and the other million after we receive the goods, but what if you tell your brother-in-law to set up an ambush and steal the goods back, what then?"

Pyatov shook his head, "I wouldn’t do that, and I wouldn’t dare. Giving it in two parts is fine, and we can also separate the transportation of the cannons and shells. I will move the shells out after I get the money, how about that?"
