Chapter 680: Chapter 686: The Most Suitable Candidate

Finding a medic, Yang Yi felt a stir of excitement.

Having one was still better than none, right?

"Find a medic? Brother Yong, tell me how to find one, and the real question is, how effective would they be?"

"The effectiveness of medics is just so-so. Don’t you think about where mercenaries work? It’s always in places without any order—for the past few years, look at the hotspots like Libya, Syria, Iraq. Wherever mercenaries operate, do you expect hospitals to be around? Plus, mercenaries are like rats crossing the street—loved by neither uncle nor grandma—even if there are big hospitals, you’d have to dare to go there. And even if you dared, by the time you get the injured there, they’d already be gone."

Yang Yi didn’t even need to ask; Zhang Yong had laid it all out for him.

"Once the employer has paid, they don’t care what happens next. Mercenaries don’t have support or supplies. They do the work for money; whoever gets injured is just out of luck. For minor injuries, no need for others; you can just deal with it yourself. For serious injuries, medics can’t handle it. Even if they are skilled, they don’t have the conditions, right? Suffering a serious injury, relying on a medic to keep you alive long enough to get to a hospital—that’s something that might sound plausible, but it’s tough in reality. So if a mercenary is seriously injured, it’s basically a death sentence."

Yang Yi let out a heavy sigh. It seemed finding a good doctor among the mercenaries was a lost cause.

However, just then, Zhang Yong shifted his tone again.

"But it’s not impossible. For the cannon fodder groups, having a medic is just for some psychological comfort. However, for groups like Angel Mercenary Corps, it’s different. They have medics, real military doctors who, if you’re critically injured, can perform major surgeries like open chest operations right on the spot. Why does Angel have that? Because they have money and connections. Nate is willing to do anything to increase their survival rates. But that’s treatment that only top-tier mercenary groups like Angel could offer; other groups could only dream of it."

Interested, Yang Yi asked, "How did Angel get its military doctors?"

"Uh, I don’t know. Nate found them, I don’t know how he convinced them to join, but the Angel Mercenary Corps is full of idealistic madmen, the key is they have ideals, you know?"

"Can we find one then?"

"We can, but don’t look within the circle of mercenaries. If there were really good doctors, the mercenary group would treat them like royalty. Forget about poaching."

Yang Yi let out a breath, then said in a grave voice, "Then focus on finding a doctor or medic. Ideally, this medic should have real battle experience and, at the very least, be able to keep someone with serious injuries alive. Our situation is different from that of mercenaries; we usually operate in cities. As long as we can keep someone alive long enough to reach a hospital, a medic can still be useful."

"Alright, I’ll focus on finding a medic. There are plenty with battlefield experience, but their skill levels vary greatly. Finding a good one’s tough, and I want to make that clear upfront."

"Fine, start looking."

After hanging up, Yang Yi said to Chris with a sense of helplessness, "Who else could help?"

Chris shrugged, "How about a cleaner?"

After some thought, Yang Yi said, "Cleaners have good doctors and they’re definitely under full control, but I dare not use someone from the cleaners, not even if they recommended someone. So, your suggestion is pointless."

Were cleaners something you could just use casually? Although Xiao Ran was from the cleaners, Yang Yi still trusted him quite a bit. Even if he didn’t trust Xiao Ran, he wouldn’t dare openly let the cleaners infiltrate the Organization of Water with spies.

Rodriguez said urgently, "Then Justin. He has such a wide network, he could definitely recommend a suitable candidate for you."

Letting Justin recommend someone seemed feasible, and Yang Yi didn’t need Rodriguez to remind him—indeed, he had thought of it too. But was someone recommended by Justin any safer than one from the cleaners? Yang Yi didn’t dare to think so.

Those in the business of intelligence naturally plant moles in other spy organizations. Despite the current decent relationship with Justin’s group, it’s just a partnership. Even if they haven’t fallen out, it’s still someone you have to guard against. How can one possibly go to them asking for help to introduce a mole? Even a one percent chance of that is unacceptable.

"I refuse to believe that, with at least tens of millions of doctors in this world, I can’t find a single one!"

It was easy to talk tough, but when it came to where to start, Yang Yi really had no clue whatsoever.

When you’re clueless about something, it’s best to put it on hold, but right now Yang Yi was somewhat obsessed; he just couldn’t put off finding a doctor any longer.

Without delay, Yang Yi called Danny.

"Captain, it’s been a long time since we last talked, how have you been recently?"

"Spit it out, what do you need?"

"Hey, can’t I contact you if there’s nothing going on?"

"Cut the crap. You wouldn’t contact me if there wasn’t something up. Besides, in our line of business, who contacts without a reason? Afraid I wouldn’t get watched by MI6? So let’s have it, what’s the matter?"

Yang Yi chuckled sheepishly and said, "Captain, do you know any good doctors? I’m looking for one—a reliable one who can move with us."

"A doctor, who can also endure a life in the shadows? Sure, I know one..."

"Sorry, Captain, if it’s that Dr. James... never mind..."

Just the thought of Dr. James sent shivers down Yang Yi’s spine. Being a pervert was one thing; a spy organization can accept that kind of weirdness. But the problem was, Dr. James was gay.

"Why not? Don’t you think Dr. James is a perfect fit? He took up being the Ghost Doctor to satisfy his twisted desires, and being the Ghost Doctor is currently the only way for him to fulfill those needs. If he could hang with you guys, given the nature of your work, he’d probably be more than happy. I’m fifty percent sure he’d join you."

"Forget it, let’s look for someone else. Don’t you know any other doctors?"

Danny was extremely annoyed as he said, "Are you crazy? How many freaks like Dr. James do you think there are? Have you ever seen a doctor who’d rather use a machete than a scalpel? In the entire United Kingdom, I only know one James whose brain is wired wrong. You think you’re nuts? Where am I supposed to meet so many doctors with a screw loose!"

Danny tended to mix in his dialect when he got exasperated. Yang Yi said weakly: "Ah Ming is a doctor, right? Maybe Ah Ming could... forget it, let’s pretend I didn’t say anything."

Ah Ming from the Dark Night Knight could perform surgeries. Yang Yi honestly wouldn’t mind if Ah Ming came to the Organization of Water to help out temporarily, but thinking about it, this request was far beyond unreasonable—it was downright life-threatening. Danny and the others were also living on the edge; why would Yang Yi even consider prying away their doctor?

"Good that you know what’s what. There’s just James I can recommend to you—take it or leave it, I’m out!"

Danny hung up, and Yang Yi let out a long sigh.

Yang Yi frowned and hesitated for a long time, then finally still felt that aside from the sexual orientation, Dr. James was the right choice in every other aspect. Maybe he should still ask for others’ opinions?
