Chapter 678: Chapter 684 The Importance of Doctors
"Vitali, do any of you three know which hospital in Zaporozhye is the best?"
"Uh, I don’t know, but it should be easy to ask around, right?"
Yang Yi remembered something and quickly asked Vitali, but unfortunately, Vitali didn’t know which hospital in Zaporozhye was the best either.
Because their conversation was happening over the radio, Anton also heard what they were saying.
"The best hospital in Zaporozhye is the military hospital, but in the current situation, I think going to the best hospital in Zaporozhye is a death wish."
Yang Yi was stunned for a moment, then he remembered to ask about the situation in Ukraine. Instead of asking the three Ukrainians like Vitali, it would definitely be better to ask Anton.
"Uh, what about private hospitals?"
"All the same, not much of a difference. For the gunshot wound Boyata has, letting those surgeons operate would be pretty much the same. However, the living standard in Zaporozhye is too low to support a highly qualified private clinic, so the best option for surgery..."
After pondering for a moment, Anton finally said, "Still a private hospital, I guess. They charge more, there are fewer patients, so at least we can find a doctor faster. But excluding the expertise of the doctors, I would suggest a private clinic, because if we are attacked again, Boyata is as good as dead."
Jethro urgently spoke out over the radio, "No, no, no, you’re overlooking a problem. We have contacts with the Ukrainian government’s higher-ups, I can arrange for a proper hospital!"
Yang Yi whispered, "The problem is who attacked us..."
It was that old problem again. If it was Corkdor who betrayed Jethro, or one of Jethro’s allies in Ukraine who betrayed him, wouldn’t contacting the Ukrainian government be a direct path to their own demise?
Jethro was left speechless, then he cursed angrily, "Fuck!"
Without clarity on why they were attacked, no place could guarantee safety, and Jethro understood this principle.
They were about to enter the city and couldn’t hesitate any longer. After thinking it over for just a moment, Jethro said in a grave tone, "I think, Corkdor wouldn’t betray me. He has no reason to. So, I still need to call Corkdor, but we can’t let our guard down. Here’s the plan, I’ll take Boyata to the hospital, you guys find a place to hide out. If anything really happens to us, at least we’ve left ourselves an out."
Yang Yi thought briefly and felt that Jethro’s arrangement was viable. None of them were doctors, they couldn’t help much; being separated meant they wouldn’t all get caught if something happened.
"Okay, that’s the plan. Anton, you go with the boss, I trust your abilities."
Anton said calmly, "Understood. I will protect the boss."
After ending the communication, Yang Yi said bitterly, "Now I know how important it is to have a doctor, we need one who’s always with us!"
Chris said, "Like a military doctor then."
"Military doctor or not doesn’t matter, but we do need a highly skilled surgeon. In our high-risk jobs, having a doctor by our side is practically like having an extra life."
The more Yang Yi talked about it, the more he saw the immense benefits of having a doctor around.
Skirting on the edge of danger, they could be injured at any time. If they died outright, there was nothing to be done, but like Boyata, severely injured yet still savable if treated promptly—having a doctor nearby would be blissful.
More than blissful, it would be blissfully vital.
Yang Yi couldn’t help reflecting on his two closest shaves with death: once in the United States where he had to use twigs to plug a wound to stop the bleeding, and then in the United Kingdom, the time Mike died. If he had a good doctor by his side then, he wouldn’t have been left to await capture by MI5 to save his life.
Having a doctor to provide safeguarding support is too important, and after giving it careful consideration, it seems that indeed a military doctor would be the most suitable.
Organization of Water, Trident, no matter what name it goes by, in the end, the injuries most likely sustained by Yang Yi and his team are gunshot wounds, and when it comes to treating gunshot wounds, military doctors are certainly the best.
"Find a military doctor, we must find a military doctor, we have to find one immediately!"
Yang Yi expressed with great determination the need to find a military doctor right away, and then he asked Chris, "Where do you think we can find a qualified doctor, and preferably a military doctor?"
Chris also took the matter of a lifesaving doctor very seriously and immediately suggested, "How about Ukraine? With all the chaos there now, there must be people looking to find another job, right?"
Rodriguez disdainfully said, "Don’t joke around, doctors, we’re talking about doctors. Which doctor would want to give up their stable and highly paid job to work for us?"
In any country, being a doctor is definitely a high-income profession and a very respectable one, too. Getting a doctor to give up a stable job and high salary is not difficult, but convincing them to risk their life in the process is another story.
"I do know an amazing doctor, and he would definitely accept a risky job, but only if offered a particularly high salary. However, uh, forget it..."
Yang Yi recalled the doctor Danny had introduced, but as soon as he thought of the gay doctor’s gaze, he quickly abandoned the idea.
Jethro had already made contact with Corkdor, so when entering Zaporozhye’s urban area, Yang Yi and Jethro went their separate ways.
Yang Yi and his group needed to find a place to hide out, but at the moment, Yang Yi’s mind was preoccupied with how to find a good doctor.
Asking Brian was out of the question; he was already out of touch with society.
Asking Anton seemed somewhat feasible, but he was busy protecting Jethro and wasn’t available at the moment.
Who else could they ask?
After some thought, Yang Yi said through the intercom, "Let’s go find a place to change our clothes first, then hide out in Zaporozhye, but before that, Roman, do you three know where we can find a good military doctor in Ukraine?"
Roman asked in surprise, "A military doctor? What are you trying to do, recruit a military doctor?"
"Yes."
Vitali immediately said, "Give up the idea, I mean give up the idea of finding a good military doctor in Ukraine. We’re the best troops around, but our military doctor is a damn butcher!"
Sergei complained, "Perhaps there are good military doctors, but we don’t know any, unless you go to the military hospital in Kiev, but they’re unlikely to give up their current job."
Roman added, "Would a medic do? We know a medic who doesn’t have a job right now. I don’t know if he’s gone to Russia, but if not, we can ask him. He might be able to join us."
"What’s his level?"
"Er, basic first aid, just a medic, you know."
Yang Yi bitterly smiled and said, "I don’t know, can he handle Boyata’s wounds?"
"That’s definitely out of the question."
Yang Yi sighed and replied, "Then it won’t do; forget it, I’ll ask someone else. In any case, I need to find a doctor who can save us, we absolutely need one, and we need one now!"
