Spy-x-War Showdown -
Chapter 659 - 665 Assassination
Chapter 659: Chapter 665 Assassination
For a spy organization, having someone in the team with off-the-chart abilities but no loyalty is absolutely unacceptable.
Anton remained in the Organization of Water not for money but simply because he found it amusing, raising the concern that the day he finds it less amusing, he might just leave the organization.
To say that Anton could turn hostile is a kindness; the man had no sense of right and wrong, no moral compass, and no concept of friendship. Yet, he had been involved in many significant events for the Organization of Water, and if Anton wished, he could annihilate the organization in minutes.
Yang Yi didn’t expect every member in the Organization of Water to be completely loyal; that wasn’t realistic. But he could control every single person within it, ensuring no one could betray the organization. Anton was the troubling exception.
Anton was formidable and powerful. If he decided to leave without a word and coincidentally betrayed the organization, Yang Yi would truly be at a loss for options. Even if he could kill Anton in revenge, he’d first have to find him.
Unless Yang Yi killed Anton now, for instance, by suddenly drawing a gun while together and blowing his brains out. Then, no matter how skilled Anton was, he would die.
But Yang Yi couldn’t bear to do it.
Anton was just too useful. For anything that needed doing, Yang Yi could just turn it over to Anton with full confidence it would be handled without a fuss. To kill Anton without a sound was something Yang Yi truly couldn’t bear to do. Talents like him were rare to find, and where would Yang Yi find another so well-rounded and without flaws?
Moreover, Yang Yi just couldn’t bring himself to do such a thing. He simply wasn’t ruthless or cunning enough. Now, although he could be cold and merciless towards his enemies, he could not bring himself to be the same towards his own people.
So, keeping Anton meant pretending to be oblivious and using him as usual, hoping he wouldn’t develop any untoward thoughts until the day he left the Organization of Water.
But that worried Yang Yi. The more capable a person, the more severe the damage they could do. If Anton truly betrayed the Organization of Water, he could potentially uproot the entire organization.
To kill or not to kill, either option filled him with dread. If he decided not to kill, he would live in constant fear of Anton’s potential betrayal. Letting Anton go was simply out of the question.
Yang Yi was truly troubled. He had apologized to Anton, but the aftermath of reopening his old wounds was far from over.
Initially, Yang Yi had treated Anton as he would a normal person, but now that he understood what Anton really cared about, he realized he had nothing that could persuade him.
His stomach still hurt a lot.
Daring not to breathe deeply, laugh, or speak loudly, Yang Yi lay with a stony expression, staring at the ceiling. He had just apologized, but his mind was still preoccupied with how to handle Anton.
Just then, Anton said in a low voice, "Because of what you said, we both ended up here. So, should the target still be killed?"
After sending Yang Yi and Anton to the hospital, Chris had continued to monitor Zalzayev with Roman and the others, leaving only Rodriguez to take care of them at the hospital.
Yang Yi raised his voice and called out, "Rod, Rod!"
Rodriguez entered, pushing the door open, then he asked softly, "Boss, have you finished talking?"
Yang Yi replied weakly, "We’re done. Ask Chris if he’s spotted Zalzayev."
Rodriguez immediately took out his phone and made a call. After a moment, he handed the phone to Yang Yi.
"How’s it going, have you found the target?"
"Not yet, their shift has ended. We’re watching both exits, but we haven’t seen the target. We might have missed him; the situation still isn’t clear."
"Keep monitoring for a while longer. We’re okay now and will head over soon."
Yang Yi hung up the phone. Anton commented nonchalantly from the side, "I had planned to simply follow the target once spotted and kill him when he was off guard, but now, chances are I won’t be able to move freely for a short time. You’ll have to find someone else to take him out."
It sounded as if Yang Yi was the provocateur. He handed the phone back to Rodriguez, tried to sit up from the bed, but upon realizing how painful it was to exert his abdomen, he simply said to Rodriguez, "Pull me up. No, no, lift me up from behind."
Yang Yi, not daring to exert himself, let Rodriguez assist him to sit up. After pondering for a moment, he said, "I must go and see for myself. If it’s possible to resolve this today, then we’ll do it today. We can’t mess up Jethro’s plans. We don’t have the time. Waiting several days to kill one person is out of the question."
"Could you help me up too, please?"
Anton quietly signaled Rodriguez and said to Yang Yi, "So, it’s going to be a forcible kill. But with only five of us left, if the target’s guards are strong, it’s uncertain whether we can take down the target, and casualties are inevitable."
Yang Yi spoke softly, "If stealth isn’t an option, we’ll go loud. If a direct attack isn’t convenient, then sniping will have to do. I have a sniper rifle in the car. Shoot and run. Just thinking about it is exciting."
After thinking for a moment, Anton nodded, "Sniping, huh? It’s not impossible. Since you’ve got a sniper rifle, we’ll go with that. Let’s get going. Although I can’t run, jump, speak loudly, or laugh right now, I can still shoot."
Yang Yi looked at Anton and asked, "You?"
"What about it?"
"I was planning to shoot myself. You think you can be a sniper?"
Yang Yi was indeed surprised because Anton seemed familiar with all things related to a special agent, yet he didn’t seem like a sniper.
"Shooting is just a basic skill."
Watching Anton’s nonchalant demeanor, Yang Yi felt he might genuinely have what it takes. It was quite rare to find someone who was not a sniper but had the skills of one, but with Anton, it seemed rather normal.
Yang Yi stood up; thankfully, as long as he didn’t stand too straight, his stomach didn’t hurt too much, and walking wasn’t much of an issue either.
Feeling relieved, Yang Yi said to Rodriguez, "Let’s go and find Chris and the others."
Anton also stood up, not even attempting to straighten his back. Instead, he hunched over like an old man and began shuffling out.
Once in the car, departing from the hospital, Yang Yi thought about how to take care of Zalzayev. The main issue wasn’t how to kill him, but first confirming Zalzayev’s whereabouts. They needed to locate the man before they could think about how to take him out.
The safest approach would have been to let Anton handle it, but unfortunately, that option was no longer viable.
