Chapter 660: Chapter 666: I Can Do It
Jethro insisted on following Chris and the others, as he still wanted to see the target taken out with his own eyes before he could feel at ease.
"How is it, does it not hurt anymore?"
"Uh, what’s the situation now?"
Not knowing how to answer Jethro’s question, Yang Yi could only try to change the subject, but Jethro, who was determined to know the truth, wouldn’t let the topic be diverted.
"Why did you guys suddenly make a move? It’s not that I’m too curious, but you suddenly wanted to spar and ended up ruining my plan. I have to figure out why."
Yang Yi let out a soft sigh and then looked up at the sky, saying, "When masters are in the mood, they’ll test each other out, just that I didn’t control my strength well. I only wanted to validate an idea, but it resulted in getting hurt. Yes, that’s it, that’s normal, right?"
Jethro frowned and said, "Normal? Doesn’t sound normal. Just a spar? Okay then, let’s talk business. Right now, we don’t know where Zalzayev is. I’m thinking maybe we should stake out near his house, because we don’t know which car he’ll use to leave here, unless we can stop and check every single car, but you know that’s impossible."
Sniping wouldn’t be an issue, but we have to be able to see the target. You can drive into the Ministry of Defense, of course, and also drive out. When it’s time for people to leave work, cars start coming out one after another. How would Chris and the others confirm if Zalzayev is in one of those cars?
In short, it’s just difficult, very difficult.
Yang Yi turned his head to look at Anton who was hunched over.
The value of Anton was that after handing over the task to him, you didn’t have to worry about the rest. However, Anton had not been able to keep up with Zalzayev, which made the remaining tasks difficult.
Yang Yi exhaled and said, "I’ll go find Chris and the others, see what’s happening at the entrance of the Ministry of Defense."
In theory, Zalzayev shouldn’t be able to bring too many people into the Ministry of Defense. Even if many people knew about Zalzayev’s collusion with arms dealers, he couldn’t openly bring arms dealer associates into the Ministry of Defense. So, even if he had bodyguards, they shouldn’t be able to stay close to him.
The most likely scenario was that Zalzayev had bodyguards, but they couldn’t protect him at all times. If Zalzayev had to work regular hours, his bodyguards would likely be waiting outside for him. It was precisely because of this possibility that Yang Yi and his team had not given up until now.
Rodriguez was driving while Yang Yi arrived at a spot not far from the Ministry of Defense building. Saying it was not far is relative, because there was still a four hundred meter straight-line distance. If it were too close, even a fool would sense something wrong. Getting exposed not only meant failing to assassinate Zalzayev but also possibly being counter-killed by Big Ivan’s men.
Sitting in a car staring straight at the entrance of the Ministry of Defense was definitely out of the question. Chris parked the car in a parking spot on the street outside a coffee shop, then monitored the entrance of the Ministry of Defense with binoculars from the back seat.
After Rodriguez parked the car, Yang Yi got out and came to Chris’s car. Once inside, he whispered, "Any findings?"
Chris, lying in the back seat, whispered back, "No findings. Most people inside have left; maybe Zalzayev has already gone home."
Yang Yi sighed and said, "Then we can only take him out at his home. Uh, in that case, we’re a bit short-handed today."
While they were talking, Chris suddenly said, "Wait! There are two cars that have stopped not far from the Ministry of Defense building."
Two cars stopping is a normal event, but two cars stopping at the same time was something that Yang Yi and his team now had to treat as abnormal.
If Zalzayev had bodyguards, then it was very likely they were in those two cars. There’s a chance that these cars were there to pick him up. No matter how probable, they definitely couldn’t overlook and had to monitor them.
Cars were coming and going on the street, not too many pedestrians but a constant flow. Monitoring in such conditions was taxing and it was easy to miss something.
Before Yang Yi could say anything else, he hurried back to his own car.
The sniper rifle that had been in the trunk was now on the back seat. Yang Yi sat down in the back, then he lifted the binoculars and started watching the two cars that had just stopped.
"If people get out of those two cars, at least two of them, and wait at the Ministry of Defense gate, they could be the target’s bodyguards,"
Anton also held a pair of binoculars, no need to communicate, they both knew what to watch out for.
"Right, did anyone get out?"
Yang Yi had just gotten in the car and didn’t have the binoculars during that time, so he had to ask.
"No one has gotten out since the cars parked."
Yang Yi perked up, feeling the likelihood that the two cars came to pick up Zalzayev had increased.
"Great!"
Yang Yi put down the binoculars, picked up the sniper rifle, flipped open the dust cover on the scope; his rifle’s barrel pointed at the car window’s glass.
The car window wasn’t rolled down because doing so at that moment, revealing a dark barrel to the pedestrians on the road would be disastrous.
Anton continued to hold the binoculars, then he whispered, "Someone’s getting out of the car, one, two, three, four, five people! No doubt about it!"
He was indeed right; the five people who got out of the car didn’t look ordinary. Although their faces couldn’t be seen, their movements betrayed they were not everyday people.
Yang Yi whispered, "Rod, get ready to roll down the window on my command."
The target was about to appear. The moment Zalzayev walked through the gate would be Yang Yi’s chance to shoot; earlier, he wouldn’t be seen, and later, Zalzayev would be shielded by the five bodyguards, making the shot more difficult.
Anton whispered, "Can you do it?"
Yang Yi was confident in his shooting skills, but he had never been a sniper before, nor had he ever shouldered the responsibility of a decisive shot.
So, Yang Yi was actually a bit nervous. If Anton’s sniping skills were better than his, he wouldn’t mind stepping aside, but with Anton’s question, Yang Yi was unwilling to give up the sniper’s position to Anton.
Seeing the five men approach the pedestrian side gate near the Ministry of Defense entrance, Yang Yi whispered, "Roll down the glass."
Rodriguez rolled down the glass, but Yang Yi didn’t rush to extend the barrel.
When the five bodyguards reached the gate, Yang Yi saw that they had taken up positions by the side gate, but then a car drove by, blocking his view.
The passing car flashed by, yet once it had gone past, Yang Yi found that a person was already standing amidst the five individuals.
Just one more step, and the man who had just exited the Ministry of Defense would be completely enclosed by the five burly men, but for now, he was not yet surrounded.
Yang Yi extended the rifle’s barrel slightly outward, and the crosshairs in the scope aimed at the target’s head, as he could no longer see below it.
Without hesitation, without waiting, Yang Yi recognized the face of the target as he pulled the trigger.
It was indeed Zalzayev.
