Chapter 548: Chapter 536: The Mantis Stalks the Cicada
It was chaotic, the Organization of Water was indeed in chaos.
With too few people in the Organization of Water and too many to watch over, and even more things to do, Yang Yi truly felt overwhelmed and stretched too thin.
But no matter what, Yang Yi had to keep a close watch on Park Ji-yi. First and foremost, he absolutely couldn’t let him escape,; secondly, if Park Ji-yi failed to receive the punishment he deserved, then Yang Yi would have to take matters into his own hands and administer justice.
Two days had passed since the events, yet instead of cooling down, the situation worsened as more and more information was brought to light, fueling the anger of the people in Han Country.
The captain had already been taken into custody, and the two sailors who abandoned the ship had been apprehended. The slow-acting government of Han Country finally did something right, though it might have been the only correct and successful thing they did in the whole affair.
Now, Yang Yi and his team were in Jeollanam-do, near a villa hidden within a forest of plum trees, because Park Ji-yi was inside that villa, so they were there as well.
Chris and Anton were in the car, with Chris responsible for watching the road leading to the villa, while Anton lay asleep in the passenger seat, his snores creating a steady rhythm.
This was Chris’s role, he could take Anton’s place and watch the deserted path to prevent Park Ji-yi from escaping the villa where he was hiding, and it also allowed Anton to get some sleep.
As for Yang Yi, Kate, and Xiao Ran, the three of them were hidden among the trees, closely monitoring everyone inside the villa from a distance of over two hundred meters.
Xiao Ran was observing through binoculars, while Yang Yi and Kate had laid out a mat and were sound asleep on the ground.
It was time to switch shifts. Xiao Ran gently nudged Yang Yi with her foot, who was right by her side. Yang Yi immediately rolled over and sat up, taking the binoculars from Xiao Ran’s hands. Xiao Ran, in turn, lay down on the mat Yang Yi had just vacated, covered herself with a sleeping bag, and promptly fell asleep.
All three were exhausted, so before going on surveillance, once they learned that Park Ji-yi had hidden himself in a countryside villa, Yang Yi and his team had rushed to buy a pile of supplies: food, water, and outdoor gear, just in case they encountered a scenario that required long-term surveillance outdoors, and as it turned out, they indeed needed it.
There was no unusual activity in the villa, but Yang Yi still couldn’t relax his vigilance.
After two days of rain, the sky finally cleared for a while. Although there were still heavy clouds, the sun had finally made an appearance. Yang Yi removed the hood of his windbreaker, embracing the long-absent sunshine and warmth.
Just then, Yang Yi’s phone beeped. He took it out and saw a message from Tang Guo.
Just moments ago, Han Country had issued an arrest warrant for Park Ji-yi, the boss of Zhenhai Shipping Company, and his two sons. The reason was laughable: they were suspected of tax evasion overseas.
Tax evasion, and overseas at that, how ridiculous the reason was. And what was more laughable than the absurd reason for the arrest were the followers of the Rescue Faction protesting the police’s arrest of their leader when the police went to deliver the warrant at the headquarters operated by the Rescue Faction.
And of course, the police caught no one, because Park Ji-yi was in his secret villa.
However, no matter how ridiculous the circumstances, at least Park Ji-yi had to face punishment now.
As Yang Yi was looking at the news that Tang Guo sent to him, the microwave surveillance device set up next to him finally showed some activity.
"Bastard! How could they do this? How dare they make me a scapegoat? Bastard!"
Park Ji-yi’s yelling was very loud, while Yang Yi was curious about how this kind of person’s thought process worked. He couldn’t understand how Park Ji-yi could be so sure that after committing an act that enraged the entire world, he would not receive any punishment.
Of course, the public’s anger hadn’t yet focused on Park Ji-yi, nor had it reached Bu Cunzai and Mei Zheren, but while Bu Cunzai and Mei Zheren might still have a chance to escape, as the owner of Zhenhai Shipping Company, how could Park Ji-yi think he would be unscathed?
To make someone perish, first drive them insane; perhaps the only explanation was that there’s no reasoning with a madman.
With an angry shout, followed by the sound of something being smashed to the ground, all noise suddenly fell silent. Yang Yi didn’t think Park Ji-yi had vented all his anger, so he must have moved to another room, one that was out of Yang Yi’s listening range.
Yang Yi really wanted to burst into the villa and kill Park Ji-yi, but reason stopped him from doing so.
Rather than executing vigilante justice on Park Ji-yi, Yang Yi preferred to see Park Ji-yi stand trial. Not for anything else, but to let the relatives of those who died know what happened, to offer them a modicum of comfort.
But justice always seemed to arrive late. Yang Yi kept waiting, feeling that the police would find this place soon, but after a whole day passed and it was about to get dark again, there was still no movement.
So Yang Yi had to start considering a possibility: maybe the Dahan Country police had indeed issued an arrest warrant for Park Ji-yi. But what if Mei Zheren wanted to save Park Ji-yi? Or at least wanted to help Park Ji-yi flee the country?
Yang Yi sadly realized that this was indeed the most likely possibility. Even if Mei Zheren and Bu Cunzai didn’t want to save Park Ji-yi, they would likely silence him before the police arrived.
The truth soon proved Yang Yi’s judgment right.
Anton suddenly said through the walkie-talkie, "A car just passed by, heading towards the villa. If it were the police, there wouldn’t be just one car. It could be Park Ji-yi’s family or someone wanting to kill Park Ji-yi."
Yang Yi had already seen the headlights and whispered, "I see the headlights, so it’s unlikely to be an assassin. It should be Park Ji-yi’s family. I’ll get closer and observe."
This time they hadn’t brought guns or night vision goggles to Dahan Country, and Yang Yi was worried he wouldn’t see who was coming, but his concern was unnecessary. The car stopped at the villa’s entrance, and after a moment, the iron gate opened. The car drove into the yard, and then the lights in the yard turned on. Yang Yi could clearly see who it was through the binoculars.
Three people got out of the car, two men and one woman, and amongst them Yang Yi recognized one of the men. His name was Benjamin Park, the man Yang Yi had impersonated for three years.
"We meet again..."
Yang Yi felt elated upon seeing a person he had been wanting to find, and then he saw Park Ji-yi.
Park Ji-yi said something to his son in the yard, then the lights went out, and they all went into the house together.
"It’s Park Ji-yi’s son."
Yang Yi said quietly into the walkie-talkie, then he heard Anton whisper back, "Another car just passed by without lights. In my experience, this one probably contains assassins. Oh, now I’m sure it’s an assassin because the car has stopped by the side of the
