Chapter 473: Chapter 461: The Transaction Goes Smoothly
It was inevitable that the origin of the Gold could be ascertained, as Yang Yi and his team didn’t have the time to melt down the Gold before selling it, so it being recognizable was to be expected.
Justin chuckled and said, "Yes, it’s the international standard delivery specification, but it’s still better to weigh it, so you can have peace of mind, right?"
"Of course."
Lloyd held the Gold in his hands and passed it to the person beside him, who, upon receiving it, immediately placed it on a platform scale. After checking the weight, he nodded, and then someone put the Gold into a crucible.
There were two gas cylinders on the flatbed, along with a flame nozzle, presumably for acetylene welding.
Someone turned on the welding torch and began to heat up the gold bar. After a while, once the Gold had melted, an observer standing nearby lifted his head and said in a low voice, "No problem."
Lloyd smiled again and then said to Justin, "Count, spot check, and after it’s finished, make the payment."
Justin waved his hand and said, "Please."
The gold bars were taken out of the box one by one and piled on the ground, and Lloyd’s men weighed them one by one. They didn’t melt every single gold bar, only melting one occasionally for spot checks to verify the purity.
Yang Yi stood by, counting.
There were 66 gold bars in a box, each weighing 400 ounces, or 12.5 kilograms, so a box of gold bars weighed 825 kilograms, just under a ton.
After counting the number of gold bars in a box, Yang Yi slightly frowned, because if each box contained 66 bars, then it would not add up to 35 tons of Gold, but rather 33 tons.
Perhaps the other boxes contained more, so Yang Yi didn’t rush to speak out.
After the first box had been checked, Lloyd glanced at the remaining boxes and casually pointed to one, and his men immediately pushed the designated box of Gold over to begin the inspection.
Spot checks were conducted by melting, but each bar was weighed, a very time-consuming process. After inspecting two boxes of Gold, an hour had passed.
The Gold had no problems whatsoever.
Lloyd pointed to the third box and then said with a grave voice, "Every five, spot check."
The previous two boxes were checked approximately every two bars by melting one, but now it was changed to a spot check every five bars.
Yang Yi was obviously impatient, but such transactions required the Gold to be verified as genuine, so inspections were essential, and he had no choice but to wait.
After the third box was also spot-checked, Lloyd, with an expressionless face, said, "Count the number of gold bars in all the boxes, and conduct spot checks every ten bars."
Justin looked at his watch and said in a low voice, "Buddy, I don’t mean to rush you, but is it really okay for us to keep inspecting like this here? How about we change locations?"
"This place is secure, with no problems, so it’s better to settle the transaction clearly right here."
Lloyd did not agree to Justin’s request. He stood there, watching as each box of Gold was pushed in front of him for counting, and then he would occasionally point out a bar to wait for a spot check, as the melting couldn’t keep up.
On the side, the Gold being melted was poured into the crucible, and after cooling down a bit, it was moved aside to cool further—the entire process was time-consuming and tedious, but no further objections were raised.
After a complete check of all the Gold, Lloyd frowned and said, "66 bars per box, 40 boxes, so that’s 33 tons, not 35 tons."
Justin paused for a moment, then said, "Oh, is that so?"
Yang Yi intended to never speak up, but now he chose to assert his presence in front of Lloyd, saying in a deep voice, "It’s 33 tons."
Justin shrugged and said, "Then it’s 33 tons, buddy. In such circumstances, it can’t be too precise; I think a two-ton discrepancy isn’t too significant, what do you think?"
Lloyd thought for a moment and replied, "Acceptable."
The Gold had not yet been completely melted, but Lloyd immediately laughed and said, "Now I am convinced there is no problem with this batch of Gold. If there’s an issue, you’ll issue a refund, right?"
Justin shrugged and said, "It would be better to fully inspect everything here. I never do the whole refund thing afterward."
Lloyd shrugged and replied, "It’s not very realistic to inspect everything; just finish the spot checks and then we’ll transfer the money."
Finally, after another two hours passed, and all the Gold awaiting spot checks had been melted, someone said to Lloyd, "No problem, all of it is fine."
Lloyd sighed with relief and smiled, "Very good, 33 tons of Gold. We’ll calculate according to the metric system, at the current market price of forty thousand US Dollars per kilogram, a ton is forty million US Dollars. Therefore, the price for 33 tons is one billion, three hundred twenty million US Dollars, I will pay you 60% of the market value, so that amounts to seven hundred ninety-two million US Dollars, any problems with that?"
Justin pondered for a long time before saying in a low voice, "I calculated it based on 35 tons, so for 33 tons..."
Yang Yi couldn’t help saying, "That’s correct."
"Very well, seven hundred ninety-two million US Dollars, that’s correct!"
Lloyd smiled and said, "Shall I transfer it to the account you provided?"
"Yes."
Lloyd took out a phone, made a call, and after a short while, he said solemnly, "33 tons, pay seven hundred ninety-two million US Dollars."
After Lloyd hung up the phone, he said with a serious tone, "Please wait a moment, and you will be able to check your account."
Justin took out a satellite phone, and then with a grin, he said, "Thank you, much appreciated."
Yang Yi thought he would receive the news quickly, but it took half an hour before Justin’s phone rang. Justin simply answered the call, said nothing, and quickly hung up, then extended his hand to Lloyd with a smile, "The money has been transferred, it was a pleasure doing business with you."
Lloyd and Justin shook hands, and then he smiled, "Pleasure doing business with you."
After finishing, Lloyd turned and loudly called out to his men, "Pack up the Gold."
Yang Yi struggled to move his gaze away from the piles of glistening Gold on the ground, the clusters of shimmering metal indeed possessed a dazzling, almost magical allure.
Yang Yi had the thought of snatching the Gold back, but it was just a fleeting idea; if the others dared to conduct the transaction here, they obviously were not afraid of any tricks, let alone concerned about the Gold being stolen again.
Justin also took a deep breath, expressing his regret, "Maybe I should have kept one bar as a collectible, but then again, it’s better for me to buy another somewhere else. Well, the transaction was successful, and the cooperation was very pleasant. Now it’s time for us to take our leave, thank you once more."
Lloyd nodded and said, "Pleasure doing business, goodbye."
Now, Yang Yi was not so worried because the money had been transferred into Justin’s account. Even if Lloyd wanted to keep them all there, it definitely wouldn’t be because of the money; rather, the issue was that the Gold was spread out on the floor, and logically, it should be Lloyd who was more concerned.
