Chapter 467: Chapter 455: Please Board the Plane
The closer the landing time was to that of the real Flight 176, the more authentic it seemed, yet the closer the time came, the greater the possibility of exposure.
Even if everything went smoothly, it took time to move the gold onto the plane, and a large aircraft returning to the United States would undoubtedly need refueling, so the longer the lead time before landing, the better. Unfortunately, an hour ahead was already the limit.
"Adjust the radio frequency."
Alexander reported a frequency, and Yang Yi and the rest all switched to the same frequency as the Aurora Mercenary Corps. Then, quickly, Yang Yi heard the pilot say in a deep voice, "We’ve established contact with the control tower at Kyiv airport; we’re cleared to land."
Fifteen minutes away from Kyiv airport, the pilot made contact with the control tower. Given that this was a secret flight, there wouldn’t be too much of an issue no matter how they made contact. Even if the airport authorities did not know the exact purpose of this airplane, someone must have tipped them off, and they would turn a blind eye to all abnormalities.
The plane began its pre-landing circling, and it was then that Yang Yi received a phone call.
"The car is on the runway; we are in position!"
Yang Yi hung up the phone, took a deep breath, and shouted, "The car carrying the gold is at the end of the runway; our people are in position. If we’re exposed, break through by force!"
The plane landed smoothly on the runway.
At that moment, Yang Yi envied the Aurora Mercenary Corps; they even had pilots capable of flying a Boeing 747. They truly had a wealth of talent.
The airplane began to taxi towards the end of the runway under its own power. Chris stood up and looked out the window next to his seat. As the plane’s speed slowed and then approached the end of the runway, Chris also saw the people getting out of the car.
After taking a quick look through binoculars, Chris suddenly said urgently, "Quick, help me change clothes!"
Chris swiftly took off his suit, then frantically tore off his shirt. At the same time, he said to Yang Yi, "Give me your jacket and T-shirt!"
Yang Yi immediately stripped to his bare upper body, and after Chris put on his clothes, he scrambled to put back on the trousers he had taken off and changed his leather shoes back to low-cut tactical boots.
"Did you see who was there? One of them must be a professional secretary or something like that, possibly the boss’s assistant. If an assistant has already come, we can’t have another assistant show up!"
After a quick explanation, Chris whispered, "Prepare for the worst."
Yang Yi didn’t need Chris to tell him; he already knew they had to prepare for the worst.
There were five people standing at the end of the runway, three of whom clearly had no authority over each other. If one of them was Arseny’s people, and another the elusive Roy, then who was the third person, obviously holding equal status with the others?
If Roy’s boss had sent someone ahead, what then? He might already know who was coming with the plane to pick up the gold. The plane’s door hadn’t even opened yet, so he might not realize the plane before him was a fake, but what if he plans to return with the plane?
Yang Yi whispered into the intercom, "Everyone get to the door, ready to break out at any moment!"
Yang Yi and a few others rapidly moved to the door, and then hid behind some seats, while Alexander and his men loaded their bullets, though outwardly they couldn’t appear too tense or alert.
In fact, the faces of the Aurora Mercenary Corps were all covered up, so no expressions would be visible.
Chris said urgently to Alexander, "Give me a pistol, with a holster, quickly unholster it."
The airplane stair truck had already arrived next to the plane, and as Alexander handed over a pistol to Chris, he said solemnly, "Open the cabin door!"
The stair truck stopped, the cabin door opened, and at that moment, Chris had just secured the holstered gun around his waist.
"Show yourselves at the cabin door but don’t hurry to move. Wait for my signal before coming down."
After whispering a piece of advice, Chris took a deep breath and then walked out of the cabin door alone.
Chris’s pace was quick as he ran down the airstairs.
"Where’s the fuel truck? Hurry up and refuel!"
Before he had reached the people, Chris called out in a stern voice, then he stood in front of several individuals, but he did not meet their gaze. Instead, he pointed directly at the truck and said, "Is the stuff inside there correct? Alright, let’s start loading quickly."
A middle-aged man furrowed his brows and asked, "Who are you?"
Chris suddenly turned around, casually extending his hand to shake with the person who had spoken, saying, "Chris."
Having someone start a conversation made things easier.
The speaker was Roy, and Chris could recognize his voice.
Chris looked toward the airplane and waved his hand at the people standing at the cabin door, signaling them to go inside. Then he turned back and asked in a low voice, "Is it safe?"
"Very safe."
Chris whispered, "Then let’s not waste time, quick, unload and load. You know how much the boss values this cargo."
Although slightly puzzled, Roy still gestured towards the back, and then a large group of people got off the truck, easily more than forty individuals. They were all dressed in black clothes, faces covered, barely distinguishable from the members of the Aurora Mercenary Corps. Perhaps there were subtle differences, but these were hard to notice without close inspection.
Two individuals opened the doors of the truck, and then, just as Zhang Yong had said, a forklift arrived.
"Who are you? I haven’t seen you before!"
Chris did not answer Roy’s question. He simply urged in a low, urgent tone, "Move the items into the cargo hold. Your men outside, mine inside, speed it up. Tell the fuel truck to hurry."
After giving his orders, Chris finally said to Roy, "We have not met before, and you don’t need to know who I am. Just knowing you’re Roy is enough for me."
Roy’s confusion became more apparent, but his doubt was evidently about Chris’s identity, not whether the large airplane in front of him was a fake.
"So where’s Jack? Is he up there? Why isn’t he coming down?"
Chris said impatiently, "Stop asking, your questions will be answered later. Refuel, move the cargo."
After giving instructions once again, Chris spoke to the person standing next to Roy, who had an attendant behind him, "You’re supposed to return with the aircraft, correct?"
The man next to Roy, wearing glasses and holding a briefcase, nodded. But he also expressed his confusion, "You are...?"
The forklift had already lowered a large metal box from the truck, and Chris, holding a walkie-talkie, said, "Isn’t the cargo hold door open yet? Hurry up!"
Roy frowned and demanded in a low voice, "Who are you really!"
Chris turned his head and remarked, "So slow, make them go faster."
After finishing, Chris lowered his voice and said, "Roy, right? Keep an eye on things here."
After addressing Roy, Chris gestured with a nod to the person standing next to him and said softly, "You can board the plane now, someone is waiting for you up there."
