Chapter 451 - 439 Cannon Fodder

Chapter 451: Chapter 439 Cannon Fodder

Heading the charge was definitely the most dangerous, and if the bounty and bonuses were to be split evenly, no one would want to go first, yet Deyo II had not mentioned this at all just now.

At that moment, Jethro said in a deep voice, "No matter the situation, no matter the outcome, whoever goes first gets a bonus of half a million US Dollars!"

Deyo II frowned.

Yang Yi felt a chill in his heart, because Deyo II was really too impulsive in his actions.

Not willing to say anything beforehand, not studying the terrain, not informing of the enemy’s situation, just bringing people to the place and flashing the money to demand that they go all out, even if the life of a mercenary isn’t worth much, it still shouldn’t be wasted like this.

At the very least, they should have given the location first to study the terrain, provided the situation of the enemy to analyze the tactics; even if they knew nothing, they should at least scout the area before advancing.

With Deyo II’s approach, these mercenaries could completely refuse to enter the battlefield, and even if it meant clashing with Deyo II, their employer, others couldn’t say these three Mercenary Groups lack professional ethics.

Frankly speaking, it was only because Deyo was able to throw enough money around that he did not provoke a backlash from these mercenaries.

But without an agreed plan on how to split the earnings, the battle still couldn’t begin.

Jethro looked at the leaders of the three Mercenary Groups and then said again, "The first Mercenary Group to advance gets an exclusive bonus of half a million US Dollars! Who will go first?"

Jethro glanced at the three leaders but gave Yang Yi a warning look when his eyes landed on him.

Yang Yi, of course, would not compete for this money. Turiav thought for a moment and then said solemnly, "Then let us go first. Do you have any objections?"

Mariano pondered for a moment, then shook his head and said, "We’ll let you have it."

Yang Yi shook his head.

Turiav continued, "After entering the building to look at the terrain, we’ll decide how to split based on the situation, agree?"

Mariano nodded and said, "Fair enough."

Yang Yi also whispered, "Agreed."

At this point what Jethro and Deyo II said no longer mattered; the three Mercenary Groups had to discuss how to split the money amongst themselves, after all, they were the ones who had to fight.

Deyo II glanced at his watch, becoming somewhat impatient, and said, "Haven’t you decided yet?"

Turiav extended his right hand and shook hands with Mariano, and then with Yang Yi. He then circled his right hand’s ring and little fingers, tapped his forehead with his index and middle fingers, and when turning towards Yang Yi, he gave a vigorous wave of the hand, performing a mercenary salute, and said solemnly, "Let’s go!"

Yang Yi, mimicking Turiav, reached out and touched his forehead, and said in a deep voice, "Good luck."

Turiav waved his hand; the people from his Mercenary Group quickly split into small teams and advanced towards the building at a brisk trot. After Turiav Mercenary Corps took the lead, Mariano waved his hand and led the people from Falcon Mercenary Corps to follow.

Yang Yi lowered the low-light night vision device on his helmet and then followed Jethro, walking at the rear.

In a field, there was a lone building, with a very wide road leading to its gate, and the surrounding walls were long, enclosing a very large courtyard.

When they were about five hundred meters away from the target building, Jethro approached Yang Yi’s side and whispered, "This is a logistics center, it’s also Big Ivan’s transport team, specifically for transporting arms. According to intelligence, there are about forty people here, but no one knows if this intelligence is outdated. If Andre is really here, there could only be more, understand?"

Yang Yi whispered back, "Got it, should we warn the guys up front?"

Jethro was silent for a moment before whispering, "This battle is inevitable."

Jethro had only uttered that sentence, but Yang Yi understood the implication all too well. The battle was inevitable because Deyo II was determined to fight this one out, willing to annihilate everyone inside if there was any chance, and wouldn’t stop without significant casualties and loss of combat abilities, which meant that someone was bound to become cannon fodder.

If it weren’t for the fact that they had saved Jethro’s life, they would certainly have been destined to be that cannon fodder.

In the end, the life of a mercenary really wasn’t worth much.

As they rapidly closed the distance to the target building, Jethro suddenly slowed his pace, and Yang Yi, who had been keeping pace alongside Jethro, also immediately slowed down, and so the gap between Trident and Falcon’s rear team gradually widened.

The Turiav Mercenary Corps was leading the charge, opting to attack from the east side parallel to the building, as the south and north sides had windows, while the east and west sides only had a small window at the end of the hallway, which relatively reduced the chance of being spotted.

Yang Yi was two hundred meters away from the surrounding wall and about two hundred and fifty meters from the building, while the Turiav Mercenary Corps had already reached the foot of the wall.

The spread between the Turiav Mercenary Corps and the Falcon Mercenary Corps grew wider, since being too close together meant presenting a feast for machine gunners in the event of an attack, or falling victim to mortar shells and mines, which would result in mass casualties. They had to keep a distance where a single grenade couldn’t injure two people simultaneously – that was the bare minimum spacing.

However, the assault teams definitely couldn’t afford to be too scattered.

The Turiav Mercenary Corps dispatched four assault teams, spaced twenty meters apart, formed up in tight groups of three and had reached the foot of the wall.

Earning half a million US dollars wasn’t easy; the Turiav Mercenary Corps aimed to create a breach in the wall to create an assault passage for those following, as it was impossible for over a hundred people to go over the wall.

Jethro waved his hand and then crouched down, and so did Yang Yi and the rest.

Yang Yi, right next to Jethro, crouched down as Jethro whispered, "Let them go in first, I have a bad feeling, this is too easy..."

A sudden loud explosion cut off Jethro’s words, followed by a successive series of deafening blasts one after another.

The people under the wall were wiped out in an instant, not one out of the twelve remained, and those near the wall lay flat on the ground, but after six consecutive blasts, the cries of the injured immediately filled the air.

Yang Yi was stunned, while Jethro and Zhang Yong nearly spoke in unison, "Directional mine!"

"Holy shit! Retreat!"

Zhang Yong cursed in his native language and then immediately shouted retreat in English, while Jethro grabbed Yang Yi and urgently said, "Don’t fire! Retreat!"

The sound of gunfire was incessant, and suddenly at least a dozen people appeared on the roof, firing down from their elevated position. The Turiav and Falcon Mercenary Corps lying on the ground returned fire at the rooftop, but how could they be a match for those above with such an overwhelming firepower advantage, and in just a moment, they suffered heavy casualties.
