Chapter 428: Chapter 416: No Danger

A few words were all it took for Yang Yi and his buddies to start taking orders from Jethro.

Regardless of who was backing Jethro, as long as the pay came from Jethro, Yang Yi naturally had to follow his arrangements.

Behind the house where Jethro lived was a small courtyard, and that was where Yang Yi and the others were stationed. Then, for four consecutive days, there was no work from the Organization of Water, and they just spent all day in the courtyard with nothing to do.

"Two pairs, I win!"

Zhang Yong turned over his hole cards and grabbed the pile of money in front of him with a wide grin, appearing extremely smug.

Everyone joined in the gambling game except Yang Yi, as everyone else forbade him from betting, so he had no choice but to act as the croupier dealing the cards.

Yang Yi skillfully dealt two hole cards to each player. Xiao Ran picked up his cards, glanced at them, and nonchalantly threw a hundred-dollar bill into the pot, saying, "Today’s already the fifth day, still nothing happening?"

Zhang Yong dismissively responded, "As long as you’re getting your money delivered every day, why the rush? These kinds of days are great."

Xiao Ran replied irritably, "That’s you! When you start gambling, you don’t care about anything else. How boring it is to be cooped up here every day."

Zhang Yong tossed in two bills and laughed, "Ever been in a battle?"

"Yeah, I killed several people in the United States when I was saving him. Man, I hardly slept at all those days."

While speaking, Xiao Ran shot an annoyed glance at Yang Yi.

Zhang Yong said indifferently, "That’s killing, not battling. I asked if you’ve been in a battle."

"No, I haven’t."

"Once you’ve been in a battle, you’ll realize how comfortable these days are. I raise!"

The others folded their hands, leaving only Xiao Ran. Xiao Ran also picked up several bills and tossed them in, saying, "I call, show your cards."

Zhang Yong looked frustrated as Xiao Ran coolly collected the money. Since Yang Yi was forbidden to play and was also not allowed to take a rake like they do in casinos, the players who won simply took it all, sweeping all the money in front of them.

Zhang Yong scratched his head in annoyance and then loudly said, "Another round, deal the cards!"

Xiao Ran boasted smugly, "Told you, you can’t beat me. You just wouldn’t believe it."

Zhang Yong shot an angry glare at Yang Yi and said, "You little cheat!"

Yang Yi muttered helplessly, "Blaming me for your own clumsiness..."

Zhang Yong was about to explode with anger when suddenly a walkie-talkie by Yang Yi’s side crackled into life.

"Robot, respond."

Yang Yi snatched up the walkie-talkie and spoke in a grave voice, "Robot received, over."

"Bring your men over for a rendezvous. We’ve got work to do. Make it quick."

"Received."

After putting down the walkie-talkie, Yang Yi said urgently, "We’ve got work, move it, quick!"

A few men didn’t even bother to pick up their money, they immediately grabbed their weapons, put on their bulletproof vests, and quickly got into the cars parked in the yard.

When Yang Yi and his team drove to Jethro’s residence, Jethro was already standing at the entrance, with his car parked right behind him.

Seeing Yang Yi, Jethro walked straight over to the car, leaned on the open window, and said in a low voice, "I’ve got a job for you. I have to go negotiate with someone, and you need to ensure my safety."

Yang Yi replied gravely, "We are not bodyguards. You should leave ensuring your safety to the professionals."

Yang Yi’s words were blunt, but they needed to be said, as they were mercenaries, not bodyguards. Jethro could not expect Yang Yi to take a bullet for him in dangerous times, so it was better to clarify things beforehand.

Jethro waved his hand and said, "Hear me out. I have my own bodyguards. I don’t need you for close protection, but if a conflict breaks out, you have to take down the opposition and cover my escape."

That was a different matter. Yang Yi immediately said, "Alright, I understand. We’ll follow your instructions."

Although Jethro looked unimpressive and somewhat rustic, he had no airs. He was willing to lean on the car window to explain things to Yang Yi without even having him get out of the car, a rarity among bosses.

Jethro lowered his voice and said, "We can’t bring too many people this time, so I’ve called only you. The parties we’re negotiating with shouldn’t cause trouble, but you need to stay alert. If you notice anything off, inform me immediately. If a fight does break out, your first priority is to help me escape, but if things really go south, remember not to let me be captured alive. Kill me, remember to kill me!"

Yang Yi truly did not expect Jethro to ask him to do such a thing. While he could understand never falling into enemy hands, killing Jethro if things looked bleak was not something Jethro’s bodyguards should be doing.

Although surprised, Yang Yi still nodded and said, "We’ll do our utmost to ensure your safety, but I will also do my utmost to fulfill your request."

Jethro nodded, smiled at Yang Yi, and said, "This is our first cooperation. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly. Follow my car, and don’t be quick to show your guns. The place we’re going is a bit far, so be careful on the road. Set your walkie-talkies to one frequency. Okay, let’s go now."

After setting everyone’s walkie-talkies to the same frequency as Jethro’s team, Yang Yi and his team followed Jethro’s two cars.

Jethro was riding in a large SUV, with the bodyguards’ car leading the way and Yang Yi’s two cars following behind.

Yang Yi was somewhat excited. In fact, most people were somewhat excited. The only ones who could remain completely calm without any psychological fluctuations were Brian, Zhang Yong, and Paul.

Rodriguez was excited beyond measure. He whispered, "I never thought I’d become a mercenary. I used to think that street shootouts were pretty hardcore, but now I’m actually a mercenary."

Chris whispered back, "Shut up, stop talking. Be careful of your walkie-talkie; it would be troublesome if others overheard."

After a pause, Chris said sternly, "I never envisaged becoming a mercenary..."

Kate smiled slightly and said, "Be careful Brian doesn’t hear you."

Chris immediately fell silent, and Yang Yi laughed and said, "Alright, let’s not talk about this for now. Also, there’s no need to be too nervous. If Jethro is willing to bring us along for a negotiation, it means there shouldn’t be anything to worry about."

Chris said, "I’m not nervous."

Rodriguez asked curiously, "Why does the fact that he brought us along mean there’s no problem?"

Chris replied irritably, without waiting for Yang Yi to answer, "Isn’t that obvious? Jethro has never worked with us before; he doesn’t know our strength. If it were a very dangerous situation, how could he possibly rely only on us? So there’s no great risk in this mission. Jethro must have already met with the people he’s negotiating with several times."

Rodriguez suddenly realized and said, "Oh, I see. That makes sense. So, we probably won’t have much to do this time, huh?"
