Chapter 412: Chapter 400 The Pain of Transitioning

Yang Yi would shoot five thousand rounds each day, which was truly an immense amount of shooting, but the target figures set by Brian were impossible to reach with a handgun, simply because there weren’t enough bullets.

The costly shooting training method was just meant to enable Kate and others who were completely inexperienced in combat to quickly master shooting skills, but being a good shot didn’t mean they were combat-ready. There was still much to be done to equip Chris and Rodriguez with the basic combat skills.

The Organization of Water wasn’t a Mercenary Group, but a Spy Organization. However, given the current situation the Organization of Water was facing, they really were courting death if they didn’t improve their combat abilities.

The desire to be an unknown spy was just a wish. The reality was, once you stepped into the underworld, you had to be ready to be taken out at any moment.

Of the four people being trained, Chris was absolutely the most miserable one.

The third day of training ended, and Yang Yi returned to his room to disassemble his gun. He made it his new routine to take apart and carefully clean his gun every day.

After training ended each day, there used to be people who would chat with Yang Yi, but now everyone would just head back to their rooms, lie on their beds and start to sleep – too exhausted to talk.

Brian’s training regimen had completely wiped out everyone’s depression. Night or day, moments of rest were sheer bliss.

Yang Yi was also very tired and sleepy. As he prepared to sleep after cleaning his gun, the door was suddenly pushed open by Chris.

Chris rushed over to Yang Yi, grabbed his arm, and with a very low voice, uttered in despair, "Boss! Save me..."

"What’s wrong? Uh, don’t cry..."

"He’s a devil, Brian is a demon! Boss, I was wrong. I’ll never avoid training again, just please don’t make me train with Brian anymore, I’m begging you, Boss!"

Chris wasn’t crying; he just kept tearing up.

Yang Yi said softly, "Are you hurt?"

"No, the hurt isn’t physical, it’s emotional. You have no idea how terrible it is. I can’t endure it any longer, please save me. You speak, and Brian will definitely listen, please, save me!"

Chris was a smart man, and both Yang Yi and Brian had great expectations for him, looking to train Chris into a spy who could truly make a difference.

If they placed such high hopes on Chris, how could they let him off easily?

"You think you have it rough? How rough do you think it is?"

Chris, shaking his head, said, "I have to train during the day and endure torture from Brian at night. He won’t let me sleep and says it’s to develop my resistance to interrogation so I won’t spill everything at the first sign of fear. He teaches me how to kill people, that’s not the problem, but he..."

Chris paused, then said in a low voice, "Whenever I do something wrong, he shocks me, verbally assaults me. I don’t know..."

Chris halted again, then continued in a bewildered tone, "It seems like Brian hasn’t really hit me, but why do I always feel like I’d be better off dead? He shakes my confidence. He vividly describes how my wife is with another man in bed, how my child is calling someone else ’Daddy,’ and he describes it so realistically. Brian is truly a devil..."

Yang Yi said with a smile, "Don’t doubt for a second that he can make you feel worse than death. What you’ve been through is nothing. If you saw what Xiao Ran went through, you’d know you’re actually quite lucky."

Chris held his face in his hands, then said in a low voice, "But I really can’t take it anymore..."

Yang Yi patted Chris on the shoulder and said, "Even if you can’t bear it, you have to. It’s for your own good. Being a con artist alone won’t cut it if you want to reclaim everything you’ve lost."

"But..."

"Seems like you’ve got plenty of energy."

Suddenly, Brian pushed the door open, and after he said something with a smile to Chris, he nodded and said, "I’m glad. Since you have the energy to complain, it means there’s still potential to be tapped."

Chris’s body started shaking violently, and he couldn’t say anything.

Brian smiled and said, "Go to my room, I’ll give you an extra meal today."

Without any courage to resist, Chris hung his head and walked out like he had lost his soul.

Watching Chris close the door from outside, Yang Yi murmured, "Isn’t this a bit too much?"

Brian shook his head. "No, I am pushing him to the brink of collapse, but I won’t let him break. Are you afraid he might commit suicide? No, he’s not at that stage yet."

"What kind of training do you want him to undergo?"

"Change his personality, retain his skills. I just want him to have some self-preservation ability. He doesn’t have to and can’t become a warrior like Zhang Yong, but he must become a qualified spy, with a certain ability to assassinate and counter surveillance capabilities."

"Won’t there be a lack of time?"

"Yes, but training him is a long-term process. As for now, I first want to reverse his way of thinking."

Brian drew a circle at his temple with his finger and said in a low voice, "Just like we said before, Chris is clever and bold. Being daring isn’t necessarily a flaw, but he’s too impulsive. The consequences of failing as a con artist aren’t very severe, but for a spy, carelessness that leads to mission failure can put many people in jeopardy. I want him to understand just how severe the consequences of failure are now."

"Won’t that make him too frightened to act, afraid to do anything from now on?"

Brian spoke very seriously, "Spies are cultivated over many years. For someone like Chris, I would rather he become a useless person who dares not do anything than to risk him causing us danger due to recklessness. Remember, we can always find the type of people we need, but one failure could be the end of us all!"

Yang Yi nodded and said, "You’re right, let’s do as you say."

Brian moved two steps closer to Yang Yi and said, "You’ve been making rapid progress these past few days. Once your body allows it, we should start joint training."

"Joint training for what?"

Brian lowered his voice, "Training on how to fight."

The previous Yang Yi had been very opposed to turning the Organization of Water into a combat team. He thought spies should stick to their own roles, with some in charge of technology and others in charge of combat. But now his thinking had completely changed. Even for a spy, it’s always better to have combat ability.

Yang Yi pressed his hand against his wound and then nodded, "No problem, I think I can start soon."
