Chapter 411: Chapter 399: Group Training
Pasanin presented his new gun as an interlude; he soon went off to make a phone call, and of course, Yang Yi and the others continued shooting.
Chris knew how to use a gun because he was American and, as a swindler, always needed to be able to fire a few shots.
It goes without saying for Rodriguez, who had been through street brawls, definitely knew how to use a gun, although his shooting was terribly bad, even worse than Yang Yi’s.
Kate’s marksmanship was even worse, not even as good as Rodriguez’s.
The main team that the Organization of Water had brought out consisted of eight people, including Paul, Brian, Zhang Yong, and Xiao Ran, whose shooting skills were all top-notch.
But the remaining four, including Yang Yi, were just extraordinarily bad.
So, although the training ground of the Aurora Mercenary Corps was within the Arctic Circle, the primary purpose wasn’t to conduct polar training. The main goal was to teach Yang Yi and his three companions the most basic combat skills, making shooting even more critical than polar training.
Four rookies, four instructors, one for each—it was perfect.
Brian spoke up, raising one hand, "Five thousand rounds of ammunition per person per day!"
Glancing around at everyone, Brian said indifferently, "I’ll take Chris, Zhang Yong will handle Rodriguez, and as for Kate..."
Paul chimed in gravely, "I’ll take charge of Kate."
"No."
With a smile, Brian then pointed at Xiao Ran, "You’re responsible for teaching Kate."
That left Yang Yi and Paul as a pair. Paul sighed with frustration and said, "Alright, I’ll take care of Yang Yi."
Mixed-gender work teams don’t tire as easily, but same-gender rivals can clash fiercely.
Both Xiao Ran and Kate had somewhat unnatural expressions on their faces, but obviously, Brian had intentionally paired the two of them together.
After the assignments were made, Brian smiled and said, "According to our tradition, the four groups will have a fun little competition at the end. We’ll have a contest every ten days, and the last-place team has to do something for the winning team. Let me think... We usually polish boots and wash socks. What would you like the stakes to be?"
"The losing side cleans the shooting range."
Zhang Yong immediately set the stakes and then pointed fiercely at Rodriguez, "Kid! If you dare make me lose, you’re dead. I’ll strip you bare and throw you into the snow. Now, pick up the gun! Wait a minute."
Zhang Yong looked at Brian and asked, "Which gun should we start with?"
"Handgun."
Immediately, Zhang Yong ordered Rodriguez fiercely, "Pick up a handgun! Let me start by teaching you how to hold a gun, dummy! Hold the gun with both hands!"
Zhang Yong wasn’t the yelling type; he was the threatening type, while Brian simply smiled at Chris, "Come, choose a handgun that feels right to you. Let’s get started."
Chris couldn’t help but shiver.
Kate and Xiao Ran exchanged glances, and then Kate reached out and took a MK23 from the table.
Xiao Ran used an MK23, so Kate also picked up an MK23.
Xiao Ran frowned and said, "You’re not suited for this, switch to another one."
Kate was about to speak, but after glancing at Yang Yi, she put down the MK23 and picked up a P229, the same model Yang Yi had.
Xiao Ran frowned again, then she said in a deep voice, "Alright, watch me demonstrate."
Xiao Ran was the first to start shooting, and while she was shooting, Yang Yi and Paul were still exchanging looks.
"How do we begin?"
Paul took a breath, looked at the target, then at Yang Yi, and finally waved his hand, "You shoot. If something is off, I’ll tell you."
So Yang Yi started to load his gun, held it with both hands and began firing shot after shot at the target.
His posture was correct and his hit rate was high; Paul had nothing to correct about Yang Yi’s shooting and, feeling both bored and helpless, started to load bullets for Yang Yi.
Just as Yang Yi was concentrating on his shooting, a terribly agonizing scream suddenly pierced the air.
Yang Yi’s hand trembled, throwing off his aim, while Paul, ecstatic at the opportunity, immediately yelled in Yang Yi’s ear, "Aha! You idiot, I caught you now, didn’t I?"
Even as Paul was berating him, Yang Yi couldn’t help but turn to look toward Chris, the source of the scream.
Chris was jumping up, clutching his butt, his gun already on the table, while Brian was holding something very small, striking at Chris’s leg again.
Chris let out another scream and jumped up, clutching his leg.
Chris’s screams distracted the other three as well. Rodriguez’s shot went astray, Zhang Yong suddenly cracked him one on the head, causing Rodriguez to immediately crouch down, clutching his head.
Yang Yi knew from experience how painful a thump on the head from Zhang Yong could be, so he deeply sympathized with Rodriguez.
But the one more deserving of pity was Chris, as Brian stabbed his thigh a third time with the stun gun, which crackled menacingly.
Kate also shot off target, but Xiao Ran didn’t say a word, just scoffed disdainfully. Then Kate, her face flushed red, clenched her teeth and continued to shoot.
Paul didn’t punish Yang Yi; he just grabbed Yang Yi by the neck and roared, "You fool! You’re distracted by this little disturbance? If you were on the battlefield, would you pee your pants or throw away your handgun? Focus! Don’t let external factors distract you!"
The reason for having four people practice together was to cause interference with one another. If such a minor distraction could affect performance, how would they cope on a mission?
With sneers, shouts, and interspersed with Chris’s occasional cries of agony, Yang Yi finished shooting ten magazines.
They were shooting inside a wooden cabin that had a fire going, but with several windows wide open, the little heat from the stove was mostly lost, and the temperature inside was still in the negative double digits.
It was so cold that they had to wear gloves while shooting, which naturally slowed down the process of loading bullets. However, Yang Yi still had to load his own bullets, as speeding up that process was also quite important.
Just then, Pasanin came back and said loudly, "Hey, Robot, our leader is coming. He will bring the latest generation of the Alexander One, so you can talk face-to-face."
The leader of the Aurora Mercenary Corps was coming in person, just for a gun. Yang Yi was momentarily stunned, then he immediately replied, "Okay, I’m looking forward to it."
Pasanin looked at the shooters and laughed, "Interesting, haven’t seen this kind of shooting practice in many years. I must remind you, we don’t have too many pistol bullets here. If you need a large amount, please pay for them first so I can order new ones. One US dollar per bullet, decide how many you need."
