Chapter 378: Chapter 366: The Value of a Swindler

"What do you mean by that?"

With an inscrutable smile, Gary Keene walked back to Yang Yi’s bedside and said, "I had planned to take you to MI5 for further questioning. I couldn’t possibly just let you go so easily if I wanted to turn you, but now it seems that many people can’t wait to rescue you, or perhaps, to kill you."

After a light sigh, Gary Keene smiled and said, "Tell me now, are you willing to work for us?"

Yang Yi pondered for a moment and replied, "I am willing, because I don’t want to die."

"Very well."

Gary Keene sat down, crossed his legs, and said in a deep voice, "Are you aware that your entire time here has been recorded?"

"I know."

Everything Yang Yi did and said was on record, which meant that if he couldn’t satisfy the demands of MI5, they could completely destroy him.

For MI5, Yang Yi had lost his value for further interrogation, but as a double agent, he would be very valuable. Therefore, Gary Keene was willing to release him, whether it was to reel in the bigger fish or to make use of the waste, allowing him to leave.

But this was all predicated on the assumption that Yang Yi really was with the CIA, which he wasn’t. In other words, MI5 and Gary Keene had been deceived by him.

"Remember this phone number; you can reach me directly with it."

Gary Keene swiftly wrote down a phone number, and after glancing at it, Yang Yi whispered, "I’ve got it."

With a poker face, Gary Keene asked, "Then how should I get in touch with you?"

Yang Yi hesitated for a moment, then slowly gave out a satellite phone number—except the number wasn’t his; it belonged to the deceased Mike.

"If this number is unreachable three times in a row, I will consider you out of control. Do you understand the consequences if that happens?"

Yang Yi exhaled and said with resignation, "You’re not going to call me all the time, are you?"

Gary Keene noted down the number and said gravely, "We will not contact you unless necessary. There’s someone who wants to see you now; I will meet him here."

Yang Yi was surprised, for he couldn’t understand how Gary Keene would let him meet someone outside of MI5.

Understanding what Yang Yi was thinking, Gary Keene said softly, "If the person coming wants to kill you, we will protect your safety. If they are here to rescue you, then I will let him take you away."

Yang Yi looked at Gary Keene with gratitude and said, "Thank you."

Gary Keene walked to the door, said a few words to his subordinate, and then after a while, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

The door opened, and an MI5 operative walked in, followed by a middle-aged man with an indifferent face who also entered Yang Yi’s room.

Once in the room, the middle-aged man immediately looked at Yang Yi.

His gaze was complex, the kind that plainly questioned why you wouldn’t just die, suggesting that if you were dead, everyone else would be at ease.

Yang Yi was stirred, for the man who had come was Chris.

Yang Yi was surprised that Chris, a notorious con man, dared to demand his release from MI5 alone. However, he knew that Chris’s solo arrival meant Zhang Yong had already returned with reinforcements, and indeed they had already begun the rescue operation.

After looking at Yang Yi for a moment, Chris turned to Gary Keene and after a brief pause, he said firmly, "Hello."

"Hello."

Gary Keene appeared calm and didn’t bother to inquire what Chris really wanted.

After pondering for a moment, Chris looked up and said sternly to Gary Keene, "I’m here to take him away."

Gary Keene glanced at Yang Yi and smiled, "Take him away? I’m afraid that’s not possible because he is one of the main suspects in a terror attack."

Chris waved his hand dismissively and said forcefully, "Stop the meaningless official rhetoric. State your terms. If they’re acceptable, I’ll agree to them."

Gary Keene smiled and said, "Terms? But I’m not planning to set any conditions."

Chris looked at Yang Yi again, then said to Gary Keene, "Buddy, letting him go would be good for all of us. Right now, he’s of no value to you, but he is valuable to us. Tell me what you want directly or perhaps we can negotiate in another way."

Gary Keene said gravely, "And what way do you propose we negotiate?"

Chris coldly replied, "I hope to take him alive, but if you insist on sending him to an MI5 prison, then we’ll simply have to negotiate in a different way. What do you think about a threat?"

Gary Keene laughed and said, "A threat?"

Chris said seriously, "Yes, a threat. If you insist on jailing him, we will have no choice but to intercept midway. The cost will be high, but we must bear it. If I cannot take him alive, then letting him die is an option, but if it comes to that..."

After a pause, Chris looked at Gary Keene and said, "What do you think about an explosion in London?"

Gary Keene shrugged and replied, "Your threats aren’t very effective, pal."

Chris glanced at his watch, then said to Gary Keene, "I must take him with me. I’ll give you an hour to think about it. Since you’ve chosen a solution beyond peaceful means, so be it. In an hour, there will be a major explosion somewhere in London. But that’s just the beginning. Additionally, if you don’t mind, we could target this hospital for an attack."

Angered, Gary Keene said sternly, "You’ve got guts talking like that here."

Chris spoke impatiently, "I came here to achieve my goal, buddy. We don’t want things to get too stiff, but we have no choice. Thanks for meeting with me. The clock is ticking; you have one hour."

After calmly stating his piece, Chris turned and left.

"Wait!"

Yang Yi spoke up from the bed, then loudly said, "I want coffee!"

Chris turned to look at Yang Yi and coldly said, "No coffee. How about tea?"

Yang Yi immediately struggled and said, "Take me with you! Save me! They’re going to send me to the interrogation room!"

Chris shrugged regretfully, but he turned and left, departing with a nonchalant air.
