Chapter 377: 365 Chapters Countermeasure

Understanding the power structure of the CIA, one can comprehend the extent of Yang Yi’s horror.

However, Gary Keene’s attitude had drastically changed this time he came to talk, perhaps even he was shocked by the information provided by Yang Yi.

"Why tell me all this? You’ve decided not to let me go, haven’t you?"

Yang Yi seemed very weak, but Gary Keene’s response once again took him by surprise.

"During these few days you’ve been in the hospital, a lot has happened in the outside world, things you don’t know about."

After a pause, Gary Keene smiled and said, "We’ve negotiated with the CIA, and they refused to acknowledge any involvement with this incident, which was expected."

Yang Yi let out a light sigh and said, "Yes, as expected."

"But we have evidence that one of them is with the CIA, and your two deceased comrades, one of them named Charles, was once a member of the CIA’s operations division, and later his cover identity was that of a paparazzo, right?"

"Uh, actually I really don’t know..."

Gary Keene let out a light sigh and said, "You’re aware that you’ll be hunted down, aren’t you?"

"Yes, whether I die at your hands or at the CIA’s, it makes no difference to me. In fact, I’m now looking forward to the CIA sending an assassin to end my life, it’s better than being tortured by you."

Gary Keene waved his hand and said, "No, you don’t necessarily have to undergo interrogation, provided that you’re willing to cooperate."

Yang Yi spoke wearily, "Tell me, what kind of cooperation do you need from me?"

"Tell me, who is X?"

Yang Yi looked at Gary Keene.

One thing was certain, MI5 was very interested in the truth Yang Yi had spoken of, the CIA had a mole who had been embedded since the Cold War and was now in a high-ranking position; it would indeed be strange if an intelligence agency showed no concern about this.

Yang Yi was pondering what exactly Gary Keene intended to do when a bold idea suddenly emerged.

Could it be that Gary Keene was planning to develop him into a double agent?

Yang Yi felt more and more that this was a likely possibility.

"There have been twenty-six people arranged around you since you were admitted to the hospital. Nine days have passed..."

Gary Keene paused, then smiled and said, "In that time, at least three very suspicious attempts to approach you have occurred. I believe someone will try to rescue you, but I’m even more convinced that someone wants to kill you."

Yang Yi looked at Gary Keene with disquiet and bewilderment.

Gary Keene smiled as he opened a folder and pointed to a woman in a green outfit pushing a cleaning cart, "Do you recognize this woman?"

Though the face seen was that of a middle-aged woman, Yang Yi could tell that the person was Kate.

"I don’t recognize her."

"What about these two men?"

Two men who looked like patients were captured by the corridor’s surveillance camera, but these two men were indeed strangers to Yang Yi.

"I don’t recognize them."

"This morning, someone laced the nutrition meals prepared for you at the hospital with a lethal dose of poison. If it weren’t for my colleagues’ highest level of protective measures, you would be a dead man by now."

After finishing, Gary Keene smiled and said, "Your condition can now be shifted to a regular ward, which means you can be taken to MI5 for protection, rather than having to stay here."

Yang Yi remained silent.

Gary Keene closed the folder and then said in a deep voice, "I’ve brought you a gift today."

Yang Yi looked at Gary Keene in surprise.

"I’ve said before, having no childhood is a sad thing. Do you want to know what happened? It’s all in here."

Gary Keene held a USB drive in his hand for a moment, then said solemnly, "Yang Yi, your name is Yang Yi, and you are a Briton!"

Yang Yi’s mouth opened slightly, then he said in a low voice, "Is that so..."

Gary Keene exhaled and then said sincerely, "May I make a suggestion?"

"Please do."

"Serve your country!"

Yang Yi looked at Gary Keene with a hint of surprise.

Gary Keene still wore a serious expression, then he said in a deep voice, "Different from what you were thinking, isn’t it?"

Yang Yi exhaled and said, "I thought I had no more value to offer, so I expected to be taken to MI5, to be interrogated over and over until I ended up an idiot or you guys killed me. Yes, I really didn’t expect to still have value to you for recruitment."

Gary Keene shook his head and said, "Normally, I wouldn’t do anything too harsh to someone I want to recruit."

Yang Yi couldn’t figure out what Aaron had done to make MI5 so convinced of his testimony, but at least it was clear that Gary Keene indeed believed what he had said, or at least believed part of it.

After hesitating for a moment, Yang Yi said in a low voice, "What do you want me to do to cooperate with you!"

"Tell me who X is, that’s the only question I’m asking! Just that one!"

After hesitating for a long time, Yang Yi finally said in a low voice, "I really don’t know, I’d like to just give you a name, but honesty is important, isn’t it..."

Yang Yi looked up at Gary Keene again and said softly, "I don’t want to die..."

Gary Keene also fell into thought.

Turning a spy is usually far from simple; even if a captured spy wants to become a double agent, someone has to be willing to believe it.

Now, Yang Yi had basically lost his value, if MI5 believes everything he has said is true.

Of course, most of what Yang Yi said was false, but the parts that MI5 could verify had already been answered, proving Yang Yi was not lying, so it’s very likely that MI5 now believed what Yang Yi had said, and thereby Yang Yi truly had lost his value.

Having lost the value for further interrogation, but not the value for use, MI5 had to decide whether to continue interrogating Yang Yi as the only living witness or try to turn him, depending on how MI5 weighed the situation.

Finally, Gary Keene said in a low voice, "Then, let’s leave here first and continue our conversation elsewhere."

So, he was going to be taken to MI5’s territory for interrogation after all. Yang Yi felt very disappointed. If he was to be taken to MI5’s territory, whether he was to be interrogated to death or turned, it would be the same - Kate and the others would surely choose to strike en route, because rescuing him once he was in MI5’s territory would be nearly impossible. However, striking mid-way was dangerous, challenging MI5 was not a wise choice.

Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door, and someone pushed the door open and began to whisper in Gary Keene’s ear.

Gary Keene waved his hand, dismissing the newcomer, then looked at Yang Yi with a kind of amused expression and said, "It seems someone is getting impatient, huh."
