Spy-x-War Showdown -

Chapter 376: Chapter 364 Heaven and Earth
Yang Yi was still in great danger, but his peril also protected him.
For spies, there was never any courtesy to begin with. If it weren’t for the fact that Yang Yi had yet to recuperate and even the slightest movement could kill him, Gary Keene wouldn’t have been so polite in speaking to him.
Truth Serum, various imaginable and unimaginable brutal tortures would have been used on Yang Yi; this was the proper interrogation mode for a spy. Yang Yi had yet to endure such treatment purely because any contact might result in his death.
Even if Yang Yi cooperated, once his health improved somewhat, MI5 would repeat every method of torture on him and torment him to the point of near death, then revive him, only to interrogate him many times over before they might start to believe his testimony.
But Yang Yi didn’t hesitate to admit his identity as a spy because being stubborn was useless. It was better to leave a good impression on those who were interrogating him, as throwing out some real or false information might temporarily alleviate the pressure he was facing.
No matter what, he couldn’t be taken out of the hospital; that was Yang Yi’s current thought.
There would definitely be someone coming to rescue him, Yang Yi had completely believed this from the moment he woke up and knew that the likelihood of rescue within the hospital was much higher than if he was in the hands of MI5.
Perhaps right now Kate or Xiao Ran was outside the ward, looking for the right opportunity to strike.
When Yang Yi woke up again, he didn’t know how long it had been.
Just like the last time, not long after Yang Yi woke up, a doctor entered the ICU, accompanied by a man in a suit.
The doctor examined Yang Yi and asked him a few questions, while the man from MI5 stood by, watching silently. He didn’t speak, but his gaze never left the doctor, and he didn’t allow the doctor to answer any of Yang Yi’s questions.
But this time, nobody asked Yang Yi any questions.
Yang Yi’s moments of consciousness grew longer, and he could feel his body recovering, but when he would be completely out of danger was not something he could control.
Gradually, Yang Yi’s periods of consciousness became longer and his sleeping spells started to shorten.
Yang Yi was already able to eat, and he had a very strong constitution, so his recovery was quick.
Since regaining consciousness, Yang Yi of course began to keep track of time; he now knew that it had been four days since he had woken up, and his condition was improving every day.
When his body was strong enough to withstand torture, that would be when the torment began. So, for Yang Yi, recovering too quickly might not necessarily be a good thing.
Gary Keene hadn’t visited again since his first visit until the fifth day after Yang Yi started keeping track of time.
The nurse left after changing Yang Yi’s medication under surveillance. Yang Yi thought he would continue lying in bed through another tedious day, but Gary Keene finally appeared again.
"How do you feel?"
"I feel terrible, especially knowing that once I recover enough, I will be taken to MI5 and subjected to your most brutal methods of torture over and over as if to torment me. Every time I think about it, I feel it would have been better if I had died at that time. Falling into your hands, I consider myself unlucky."
Yang Yi responded sincerely, while Gary Keene merely smiled and said, "It’s not a necessity to interrogate you, as the results of our last conversation were quite good."
Gary Keene moved a chair and sat down beside Yang Yi’s bed, then he opened a folder he had tucked under his arm and took out a photo, showing it to Yang Yi, "Do you recognize this person?"
Yang Yi looked at the photo; it was one of the attackers, but not a photo of a corpse, rather one from inside an airport.
"I don’t recognize him, but I know he’s one of the attackers."
"How about this person?"
"I don’t recognize them, the assailants."
After showing Yang Yi the five photos repeatedly, Gary Keene put away the folder. He pondered for a moment before saying in a deep voice, "These five men entered London in three different groups. They all came from the United States. There were a total of eight bodies at the scene, two of yours died, and six of your enemies died."
"Six? Weren’t there five?"
"Six."
"The situation was quite chaotic at the time; I really don’t know exactly how many enemies there were."
Gary Keene exhaled and then spoke indifferently, "Five people entered London separately from the United States, but one of them had been in London for many years. He is a CIA operative based in London."
Yang Yi didn’t show any reaction, but his heart was in turmoil.
As expected, it really was the CIA behind this.
Gary Keene continued indifferently, "Among those involved in this incident, five came from the United States, and the one who had been living in London for a long time is named Porter Haden. He is from the CIA London station, in charge of the European Intelligence Division, but he was once a direct subordinate of Aaron Webster."
Yang Yi was somewhat stunned because the information Gary Keene revealed was astonishing. It meant that those who attacked them were indeed sent by Aaron.
But who is Aaron, exactly?
Yang Yi, somewhat puzzled, looked at Gary Keene and asked in a deep voice, "What is Aaron’s identity?"
"You don’t know?"
"I really don’t!"
Gary Keene smiled and said, "Aaron Webster, Deputy Director of the CIA, Chief of the Operations Division."
Yang Yi was again taken aback.
The CIA is composed of four main parts: the Administrative Division, the Intelligence Division, the Operations Division, and the Science and Technology Division. Then, under the Intelligence Division, there are five regional offices, such as the European Intelligence Division, the Asian Intelligence Division, and so on.
However, the Middle East is not an official geographical term but rather a conventional name for a region, which means that Mike and Brian’s ranks within the CIA were not very high when they were partners or colleagues.
Mike was in the Intelligence Division, and Brian was in the Operations Division, but they both belonged to the CIA Operations Division’s Middle East station, rather than one being in the CIA Intelligence Division and the other in the CIA Operations Division. This distinction must be clear.
The CIA’s Operations Division is responsible for counterintelligence, gathering intelligence, and covert operations abroad, while the CIA Intelligence Division is in charge of managerial analysis, weapons control intelligence, and assessment of intelligence gathering requirements.
Many people get confused by the CIA’s division of labor. One needs only remember that all agents sent out to perform specific intelligence gathering and counter-espionage tasks belong to the Operations Division.
The CIA Operations Division’s Asian branch has a regional station set up in the Middle East, from which a separate Intelligence Division and Operations Division are derived, which are the specific positions held by Mike and Brian.
Before Yang Yi knew Mike, he only had a general understanding of the CIA. It was after getting to know Mike that he became familiar with the CIA’s operating model and structure.
In other words, when Mike and Brian were still with the CIA, they could occupy the fifth level in a seven-tier command hierarchy, placing them in a lower-middle position within the CIA’s pyramid of authority. Meanwhile, Aaron is now the CIA’s second or third most powerful person.
The status of Mike and Brian compared to Aaron was simply worlds apart.
