Chapter 372 - 360: Survive

Chapter 372: Chapter 360: Survive

The enemy was a master, there was no doubt about that.

If they stayed, they were as good as dead, this too was without question.

But for Paul, being as good as dead was just that, death, and death had never been an issue worth overthinking for him.

If death had value, then it was worth dying for.

What constituted a death with value? Everyone would have a different answer to this question.

For Paul, as long as Brian didn’t die, then anyone else’s death would suffice, including his own. If he could trade his life for Brian’s, then his death would have value.

However, Brian was now immobile, lacking the ability to move on his own, so it was necessary for Kate and Xiao Ran to help Brian escape, which made Paul quite willing to stay behind and cover for him, giving Brian the chance to get away and survive.

Xiao Ran had the same plan in mind.

If someone had to die, it only mattered that it wasn’t Yang Yi. If she could rescue Yang Yi and incidentally take Brian along, she would not refuse.

The precondition being that she must have the chance to get Yang Yi out.

Two women, assisting three men who had essentially lost their ability to move, safely leaving under the enemy’s assault was impossible. If she and Kate were to cover - one of them covering while the other took Yang Yi away - there was some possibility.

But if someone was willing to sacrifice themselves to stay behind and cover, thereby giving her and Kate the opportunity, the chances of escape would increase significantly.

Therefore, Xiao Ran did not consider Paul’s suggestion at all.

"Good, let’s do that!"

Xiao Ran didn’t hesitate to reach for Brian, and Kate picked up Yang Yi again, but it was at this moment that Brian urgently said, "No! We leave! Leave Yang Yi behind."

Kate could hardly believe her ears, and Xiao Ran’s eyes also widened, her expression extremely unfriendly, even Paul was taken aback as he looked towards Brian.

Brian, after another glance at the hiding spots of the two enemies, panted, "Those two aren’t enemies, they’re plainclothes police, there’s no faster way to get Yang Yi treatment than to leave him to them!"

Xiao Ran was taken aback, then she looked again at the two people in hiding and said, "Police?"

Brian exhaled, whispered, "The attackers just now were CIA trained, but the newcomers are not enemies, they are police. I’m not sure of their specific identities, but they serve a police function."

Most of the United Kingdom’s police force is not armed, but after suffering several terrorist attacks, London’s security situation has faced significant challenges. British police were not well-equipped to deal with London’s growing terrorist threats. Thus, in addition to increasing patrols by armed police officers on the streets, London also stationed many plainclothes police officers in famous tourist spots and crowded places. These individuals served police functions but weren’t necessarily police by identity, which is why Brian had his doubts.

Brian stated with an irrefutable tone, "If they were the enemy, they would have already shot at us, but they haven’t, and no enemy would come armed with only two pistols and allow us the time to argue here!"

Brian seemed very angry and said firmly, "Trust my judgment, they are police, and right now only the police can get Yang Yi to the hospital fastest!"

Xiao Ran was conflicted, she looked at Yang Yi and whispered, "Maybe I can too, if I..."

"We don’t have time!"

Brian interrupted sharply, then pointed at Yang Yi and said, "I know you have secrets, but the people behind you won’t arrive in time to help you, he can’t hold on any longer, he’ll be dead in fifteen minutes!"

Xiao Ran looked at Kate, and Kate shook her head, saying, "No! I will not abandon him, never!"

Xiao Ran looked at Kate and whispered, "Kate, everything is to keep him alive!"

Kate urgently said, "But what if they’re not police?"

At that moment, Paul whispered, "You three go, I’ll stay behind to protect him."

Brian said with a fierce tone, "Only Yang Yi can stay behind. Our injuries aren’t fatal. Many people have died here, and the police need a living person to figure out what happened. Think about it; who are the police going to put all their efforts into saving, us or someone who’s about to die? Enough, trust my judgment, we four must leave immediately. Leave Yang Yi behind to give the police a better chance to save him!"

The police needed a survivor to get the testimony they wanted, so only one could stay because Brian and Paul’s injuries were not severe enough, leaving the police with a choice.

If only the dying Yang Yi was left, then the police would have no choice.

The logic was simple and crystal clear, just that the moment of making such a choice was too cruel.

"Go!"

Yang Yi made a weak sound.

Yang Yi tried hard to raise his right hand, but he only managed to lift the hand holding the gun slightly. Then he said in a low voice to Kate, "Take it, as a keepsake."

Kate received Yang Yi’s gun in a daze.

Yang Yi’s left hand reached to his waist where he gripped the knife’s handle and slowly pulled the knife out.

Looking at Xiao Ran, Yang Yi said weakly, "My knife, take it. Now go!"

Xiao Ran grabbed Yang Yi’s hand, then she took the knife from his hand.

Brian said in a heavy voice, "Leave him, let’s go, or soon we won’t be able to even if we want to."

Kate, unable to cry out, said to Yang Yi, "Survive! You must survive!"

Xiao Ran, with a determined face, said, "Survive, I will definitely be able to save you!"

After saying that, Xiao Ran shouted, "Go!"

Xiao Ran supported Brian, and Kate helped Paul. Their departure was difficult, but they ultimately made their choice.

As Brian left, he said fiercely to Yang Yi, "Survive! You have to survive! Mike’s death won’t be in vain, Charles’s death won’t be either. Survive, and we have hope!"

Everyone had left, leaving only Yang Yi behind.

Yang Yi leaned against the car, his vision gradually blurring, but he was struggling to keep his eyes open.

To survive is to have hope, he must survive.

Yang Yi’s gaze fell on Mike, and he couldn’t understand why Mike would save Brian.

Mike clearly hated Brian so much, but why did he take the hit from the grenade?

Perhaps Mike didn’t hate Brian that much, or maybe, this was the kind of comradeship that Yang Yi could never comprehend—the bond between comrades in arms.

Without questioning right or wrong, regardless of the cost or consequences, even if it meant protecting with one’s life, that’s what comradeship is.

Mike was already dead, and the real answer would forever remain unknown, and perhaps Mike never intended to die for Brian. Maybe it was just a reflex, a habit to protect a comrade in arms, without thinking of the consequences, just as Yang Yi had done.

Who knows, maybe that was it.

Yang Yi no longer wanted to delve into it anymore. His gaze fixed on Mike’s face.

Yang Yi could no longer see Mike’s face clearly. He tried to lift his hand, but his hand could no longer reach Mike’s face. So, he could only mumble, "Thank you, Mike, goodbye,
