Chapter 371 - 359 Desperation
Chapter 371: Chapter 359 Desperation
Brian weakly waved his gun, but the enemy pulled back after throwing the grenade.
What could Yang Yi do? He felt desperate, but the grenade was flying towards him, and right by his feet lay Mike and Brian; what else could he do?
Instinct urged Yang Yi to run backwards; fear made his legs go weak, but in the end, Yang Yi didn’t run, nor did he leap backwards to lie down; he chose to squat on the ground, shielding Mike with his body.
A pair of weak hands tugged at Yang Yi’s clothes, but he just swayed a little and didn’t move.
The grenade exploded, not in mid-air, but upon hitting the ground.
This time, the enemy’s grenade wasn’t thrown as accurately since it was done in haste, but it still landed within a deadly distance, less than ten meters from Yang Yi.
Yang Yi felt a pain in his body, but he didn’t know where it was hurting.
Watching a grenade explode right in front of you is an experience most people only get once, because those who have seen it usually end up dead.
Yang Yi’s ears were buzzing, but his eyes could still see.
The enemy who had thrown the grenade reappeared, this time not throwing another grenade, but holding a gun and resting it on an SUV.
Yang Yi aimed his gun, but he couldn’t lift it with any strength.
Squatting, Yang Yi sat back, landing on Mike, and then continued to fall backwards until his head rested against the car.
Yang Yi opened his mouth, and blood spewed out.
Yang Yi, Mike, and Brian lay together, stacked on top of each other, unable to move.
Death seemed imminent.
But just when Yang Yi thought he was certain to die, the head of the enemy who had just raised his gun burst into a spray of blood. Then, Xiao Ran rushed over with a gun, with Kate right beside her.
Brian’s face was pressed against the ground; he mumbled unclearly, "Go! The enemy’s target is me..."
Mike extended a hand, grabbing onto Yang Yi’s clothes, but his eyes were completely lifeless.
Mike hissed, "Hurry, take Brian, Moles... Aaron is the most suspicious, hurry..."
Mike couldn’t see the blood pouring from Yang Yi’s chest, so he continued to urge Yang Yi to leave quickly.
Yang Yi opened his mouth again, it was as if his mouth was filled with water, he could only make gurgling sounds.
Mike’s voice weakened further, his hand fell powerless from Yang Yi’s body, he stuttered, "Don’t worry about... Brian, you go... We’re exposed, get to the safehouse, go to..."
Mike’s voice faded out.
With one arm, Brian propped himself up, looked at Mike, then at Yang Yi, and let out a desperate roar.
Kate and Xiao Ran finally reached Yang Yi’s side.
Seeing Yang Yi’s condition, Kate knelt to support him while his mouth fell open, soundless, but tears suddenly flowed.
Xiao Ran also opened her mouth; she looked dazed as she grasped one of Yang Yi’s arms.
Yang Yi looked down at Mike and Brian on the ground. Xiao Ran let go of Yang Yi and reached out to help Mike, but she immediately let go and grabbed Brian’s arm, helping him to stand up.
Kate wiped away his tears forcefully, then picked up Yang Yi in his arms and stood up.
Brian was shouting, "Charles! Paul, answer me, answer me!"
But there was no response.
Yang Yi was helped up by Kate, unable to speak, but his consciousness was incredibly clear, clearer than ever before.
Yang Yi turned his head to check the situation inside the car.
Charles was dead, shot in the neck, with most of his throat torn open.
Paul was motionless, face down on the inflated airbag, whether he was dead or alive was uncertain.
If nothing unexpected had occurred, it was almost certain that Paul was dead.
"You’re not going to die, you can’t, you just can’t, you won’t die..."
Kate mumbled incessantly, while Xiao Ran pulled Brian up, but she ignored Mike.
Mike no longer needed saving; he was dead.
Kate lifted Yang Yi with great strength, and at that moment, her strength seemed even greater.
But just then, Brian shouted, "Don’t hold him, put him down, don’t let him choke on his blood, give him to me!"
Kate immediately put down Yang Yi. She was panicked and helpless, but not so much that she didn’t know which choice was the correct one.
Brian, sitting on the ground, looked at Yang Yi’s wounds and then immediately fell into despair, but he started to hold Yang Yi’s head, prying open his mouth, letting him spit the blood out to avoid choking and suffocating.
Yang Yi had taken a bullet to the lung, one lobe pierced by shrapnel from a grenade, but Brian clearing his mouth and throat to prevent suffocation was somewhat meaningful.
Suffocation would cause Yang Yi to die faster; a gunshot in the lung without suffocation meant a painful and slow death, possibly delaying the inevitable by ten or eight minutes. With some luck, he might live an additional half hour.
"Take him now, quickly, be careful not to let him suffocate, we must get to a hospital immediately, right now!"
Brian urged Kate, who was desperately shouting into the phone, "Hurry up!"
Xiao Ran’s car was blocked far behind. Now, it was Tang Guo who was driving, but she clearly couldn’t get through the clogged road.
Now Yang Yi finally managed to speak, and he noticed two people running from behind.
Gunfights, explosions—things normal people would evade at all costs. It was improbable that regular folks would run towards them.
Just as Kate was about to lift Yang Yi again to run, Xiao Ran screamed, "Stop! Take cover behind the car!"
Xiao Ran yelled, raising her pistol towards the two approaching figures and fired a shot.
Indeed, the newcomers were enemies, as they stopped and drew their guns.
If Kate had started running with Yang Yi, they would both have been shot dead. Now, she was on the left side of the car, and the new enemies were on the right. If they didn’t run, they could hold on a little longer.
Brian pulled Yang Yi to the ground, and then Yang Yi said in a faint voice, "Go on without me, I’m dying. Dying here together is indeed a very stupid thing."
At this moment, Yang Yi didn’t feel much fear or discomfort; he just felt an immense regret.
Looking up at Kate, who was holding him, Yang Yi whispered softly, "Dying here together is really stupid."
Just then, Paul, who had his head down on the airbag the whole time, moved his hand slightly.
Xiao Ran pulled on Paul’s arm, dragging him out of the car, and once he hit the ground, he let out a long gasp of breath.
Paul’s eyes opened, blood seeping from a wound in his stomach, but after scanning around with a hazy gaze, he slowly got up, reached under the co-driver’s seat, and grabbed his fallen handgun.
Brian opened his mouth, then in a feeble voice said, "Oh, Paul..."
After looking at Brian, Paul touched the wound on his stomach with a sigh, then with a trembling voice said to Xiao Ran, "Things look bad. While I can still move, Queen, you’re a decisive person. You two take the boss and Sea God and get out. I’ll cover you. Are you ready?"
