Chapter 359: Chapter 347 Goodbye

Mihali Kowalczyk awoke.

Darkness surrounded him. Mihali Kowalczyk struggled weakly, soon realizing his arms were tightly bound behind him.

"You’re awake."

A deep voice sounded, and Mihali Kowalczyk immediately whispered, "Who are you?"

Mihali Kowalczyk had spoken in Polish, so the person conversing with him switched to Polish as well.

"We are the ones looking for you, but not the ones wanting to kill you. Now, do you understand your fate?"

After a long silence, Mihali Kowalczyk finally replied with a low voice, "My daughter—how is she?"

"She’s fine. We let her go; she should be home by now. She was smart not to call the police, otherwise, she would be dead by now."

It was Mike speaking, and although his tone was calm when he mentioned Mihali’s daughter, he actually felt somewhat irritated inside—believing that Mihali Kowalczyk’s daughter should have been there as well.

But Mihali didn’t believe it. He struggled again, his voice low, "What exactly has happened to my daughter!"

Mike replied sternly, "Your daughter is fine. But what happens next will depend on the choices you make."

Mihali whispered back, "Let me talk to my daughter. If she’s really all right, then I’ll tell you whatever you want to know."

"No, you misunderstand. I’m not interested in the information you have to offer—that’s worthless to me. What I want to know is whether you have the money to buy back your daughter’s life."

Mihali remained silent, while Mike continued with a smile, "Let me just spell out your fate then. You’ll be sent back to Poland, to those who were once your comrades. How they deal with you is none of my business, and I have no interest in learning any secrets. I’m just after the wealth you’ve accumulated over the years. I think you understand, right?"

After a moment of silence, Mihali, grinding his teeth, said in a low voice, "Bastard!"

Mike chuckled, "Alright, now tell me, do you have any savings? Or where is your money kept? Tell me, and as long as it satisfies me, your daughter will be safe."

After a long, solemn pause, Mihali Kowalczyk barely managed to say, "I have no money left. I spent everything to escape Poland. Without it, I couldn’t have made it to Latvia or the United Kingdom."

Mike sighed, his voice low, "Is that so? Well, that’s a pity."

Mihali’s voice began to choke up as he pleaded, "Please spare my daughter; she’s just a child and knows nothing."

Mike said sternly, "You’ve made quite a fortune over the years. I don’t believe you’re without savings. Hand over the money, and your daughter will be safe."

"I don’t have any savings left, truly. I gave all my money to my daughter, but she, she..."

Mihali Kowalczyk stuttered, then finally spoke with reluctant acceptance, "She has been living too extravagantly... She’s spent carelessly. Just recently, she wanted more money from me because she had spent all of hers. I had some real estate in Poland, and some savings, but now it’s all gone. I have nothing left."

Mike exhaled, saying, "I’ll verify the truth of your statements."

Mihali begged desperately, "Please spare my daughter. She’s just a spoiled child who became independent too soon. She knows nothing; why hurt her? Please, I’m begging you."

Mike spoke softly, "I’ll let you make a call, to your daughter. Tell her not to call the cops, do nothing, and if she wants to live, to completely forget you and everything that happened today. Otherwise, we’ll have to kill her. With your experience over the years, you should understand what I mean."

As a top lieutenant in a gang, Mihali Kowalczyk certainly understood the meaning of Mike’s words—he himself had not been short of committing similar actions.

"I guarantee she won’t say a thing. I will tell her what to do."

Mike dialed a few numbers on Mihali Kowalczyk’s phone, then held it to Mihali’s mouth, saying, "Have a conversation with your daughter. This is your last chance to talk to her, so, cherish it."

The phone rang once with no answer. Mike redialed, and this time, the call was answered. Lucy Clark’s voice came cautiously, "Hello, Dad? Is that you?"

Mihali Kowalczyk immediately began to cry, his voice trembling, "It’s me, Mini, are you okay?"

"Dad! How are you? I’m at home now, and I’m scared..."

Mihali Kowalczyk said urgently, "At home? You’re at home? Did you call the police?"

"No, you said not to call the cops no matter what happens, so I didn’t dare to. I woke up and came straight home. Now I don’t know what to do. Dad, what should I do?"

Lucy Clark’s sobs were intermittent as she spoke. Mihali Kowalczyk said urgently, "Don’t call the police, never tell anyone about my affairs. The people who took your dad away today are my friends; they will get me to a safe place. You must not call the cops, Mini. I have to go to a safe place, and it might be a very long time before I can contact you or see you again, but don’t worry. You have to be strong, Mini. I can’t give you any more money—I’m sorry, you..."

Mihali Kowalczyk could not finish his sentence. He turned his head away and, after calming his emotions a bit, continued in a choked voice, "Mini, you’ll have to take care of yourself from now on. Don’t be so frivolous with money anymore. Do you remember what I said?"

"I remember, Dad. But where are you going?"

Mihali took a deep breath, his voice low, "I can’t tell you, Mini. Remember my words, don’t mention anything about your father to anyone, forget everything. Daddy loves you, but I can’t talk to you anymore. I’m sorry. Be strong, you have to be strong... goodbye, hang up now!"

Amidst Lucy Clark’s sobbing, Mike hung up the phone.

Mike took the phone, his voice grave, "That was touching, the way you said goodbye to your daughter. But, those who died at your hands, did you ever think about how they felt? Heh."

Mike laughed, but Mihali stayed silent, just weeping, his tears soaking the blindfold covering his eyes.

Mike administered an injection into Mihali’s arm, and soon Mihali once again succumbed to unconsciousness.

After checking Mihali’s pulse, Mike turned to Yang Yi, who had been standing by his side the whole time, and said, "It’s over. Since we can no longer extract any greater value from him, call Justin."
