Chapter 353: Chapter 341: When Water Flows, A Channel Is Formed
Martin Howard walked ahead, with Schultz right beside him. As for the dog taken hostage, it was left at home, and consequently, Kate also had to stay behind at Martin Howard’s house.
They were short on hands, and it was impossible to make other arrangements, so Schultz had no choice but to accompany Martin Howard alone to the supercomputer center. The dog named Cody was the crucial reason Martin complied, and if both Kate and Schultz went to the supercomputer center, leaving the dog alone at home, there was a high chance Martin would risk everything. Therefore, they had to split up.
Schultz wore a pullover and a mask on his face. Carrying his computer on his back, he followed inconspicuously beside Martin Howard.
The supercomputer center didn’t close at night either, so there were still people working overtime. However, the number of people was significantly reduced; administrative workers had already left, with only essential positions staffed. Given Martin Howard’s status, bringing someone who looked like a child into the supercomputer center late at night might arouse curiosity, but no one would stop and interrogate them.
Actually, it would have been more appropriate for Martin Howard to enter the supercomputer center during daylight after he had complied, but Yang Yi couldn’t get into the Ministry of the Interior building during the day, so they had to enter the supercomputer center at night instead.
As they approached the supercomputer center, Schultz took off his mask, hung a badge that Martin Howard had given him on his chest, and then confidently followed Martin Howard into the supercomputer center.
The night shift security guard at the supercomputer center saw Schultz, but after seeing Martin Howard by his side, he didn’t even bother to ask any questions.
Martin Howard didn’t speak; he just led Schultz straight into his office.
After turning on the computer on his desk and checking it, he said to Schultz in a deep voice, "I can allocate seven percent of the computational power to you for four hours."
Schultz nodded and said, "That’s enough, thank you."
Martin Howard heaved a sigh of relief. After wiping his face with his hand, he spoke gravely, "You’re young, still a child. Why are you doing this kind of thing?"
Schultz shrugged his shoulders and said, "Sir, I can’t talk too much with you. If my companions find out you’re trying to call the police, or try to harm me, or if you’re attempting to turn me, they’re capable of doing anything, really. I like dogs too, so I advise you not to talk to me like this."
Martin Howard sighed, then stood up and said sternly, "Come with me!"
Schultz was led into a large hall filled with rows and rows of cabinets, all emitting a deep humming sound.
"Wow, this is the supercomputer, so cool!"
Not many hackers have seen a supercomputer, and upon seeing something familiar presented in an unfamiliar way, Schultz began to marvel.
Martin Howard pointed to a screen that resembled an ATM machine and said, "That’s a terminal that can link to external devices. You can upload data to the supercomputer or download it."
"Thanks."
Schultz was pleased. He took out his own computer, and just then, Martin Howard said gravely, "If you attempt to plant a virus or a Trojan, believe me, even if my dog and I are killed by you, I’ll stop you."
Schultz shrugged his shoulders and replied, "No, we just need the computational power of the supercomputer. We don’t intend to damage your supercomputer. Don’t worry too much, relax a little."
Schultz connected his computer to the supercomputer and uploaded the facial recognition technology obtained at a high price by the Organization of Water. He needed Martin Howard’s help for this step, as Schultz didn’t know how to operate a supercomputer or how to allocate its computational power.
And Martin Howard complied and did all the work for Schultz.
Once Schultz had taken care of all his tasks, he immediately said in a low voice, "The supercomputer is ready."
Upon hearing Schultz’s words, Kate, who had been waiting, immediately said, "Understood, be careful out there, over."
After receiving the message, Kate picked up the phone and dialed Tang Guo. As soon as Tang Guo picked up, she whispered, "Black Lightning is ready."
"Okay, I got it."
Tang Guo put down the phone and said to Xiao Ran, "The supercomputer is ready."
Xiao Ran whispered in response, "Hmm, got it."
Tang Guo said cheerfully, "Yang Yi’s end will be ready soon too."
Xiao Ran replied with helpless frustration, "Don’t use names, call him by his code name. Whenever, wherever we are on a mission, we can only use code names and not real names."
"Oh, sorry about that."
Tang Guo stuck out her tongue and then began to guide Yang Yi to connect the transmitter.
As soon as a prompt appeared on her computer, Tang Guo immediately exclaimed, "Signal transmission has begun. Notify Black Lightning, he can start now!"
Kate then relayed the message to Schultz, and after receiving the prompt from Kate, Schultz took a deep breath, rubbed his hands together, and said to himself with great excitement, "Now the real show starts!"
Schultz still needed to breach a firewall. Although the computers that stored the Internal Affairs Department’s secret information were physically isolated from the external network, there was still a firewall to deal with, which simply meant that one needed a password and authorization to access it.
What Schultz had to do now was to break through this firewall, to brute force his way in.
If Schultz were to use his own computer to break through the firewall, it would take at least several minutes or even hours, no matter how fast he was. But now, he was using a supercomputer.
And how long does it take a supercomputer to crack a firewall? The answer is an instant.
When Schultz began the hacking process, he glanced at his watch because he wanted to time it, but by the time he looked up again, he found that the firewall had already been breached and the Internal Affairs data was at his disposal.
How long that instant lasted, Schultz didn’t know. It might have been one second or perhaps two seconds, because all he did was look down at his watch and then the job was already complete by the time he looked up again.
Schultz’s moment of astonishment lasted longer than the time the supercomputer took to break through the firewall.
When Schultz finally snapped out of his shock, he whispered, "Beginning data comparison, estimated time... I don’t know anymore, it’s unpredictable."
There was no need to download the Internal Affairs data. There was no need to download the personal information of tens of millions of people. What Schultz needed to do was to run the facial recognition software with the supercomputer, find potential matches in the Internal Affairs database, compare them, and then save the information of those who matched the criteria.
With the supercomputer in operation, Schultz had nothing to do, so he began browsing through the various data within the Internal Affairs database, and soon he came across some relatively special data.
"What’s this? Dangerous individuals?"
After mumbling to himself, Schultz opened a folder with a special tag.
