Chapter 345: Chapter 333: The Taste of Home
Yang Yi picked up a slice of meat, placed it into the boiling water, and, after swishing it a couple of times, he took it out and put it into his sesame sauce bowl.
When the lamb entered his mouth, Yang Yi closed his eyes.
Once Yang Yi reopened his eyes, he let out a long sigh, a look of contentment on his face as he said, "That’s the flavor, yes, just like that. Eat up, everything’s good now."
Schultz looked bewildered and said, "But I can’t use chopsticks..."
Yang Yi went to the side, grabbed a stainless-steel tongs, and tossed it to Schultz, saying, "Use this."
Boer, however, without a word, started to eat voraciously. After a couple of bites, he nodded and said, "Not bad, it’s simple, but the taste is good."
Only Brian had a dubious look on his face.
After having his first bite, Charles smacked his lips and then said to Brian, "It would be even better with peanut butter, but boss, this is really delicious!"
Still skeptical, Brian picked up his chopsticks, glanced at the others around him, and said, "I know you wouldn’t lie to me, but is it really that tasty? I remain doubtful..."
After waiting to put the slice of lamb in his mouth, Brian chewed a few times, then nodded and said, "Not bad!"
After another bite, Brian nodded again and said, "Indeed, very good!"
After the third bite, Brian took a deep breath and exclaimed loudly, "The flavor is excellent, a completely new experience, surprisingly good, simply fantastic!"
Spies can eat gracefully or wildly, so Mike ate quickly, but still elegantly, and he never spoke a word, just focused on eating.
Kate looked at Yang Yi and then said, filled with emotion, "I have to admit one thing, the United Kingdom really is a culinary desert."
"Hmm, you’re right."
Boer, eating joyously without looking up, said, "From the standpoint of cuisine, the UK definitely can’t compare with France."
Not everyone liked hotpot lamb, or to be exact, the sesame sauce for dipping.
"But this sauce tastes strange..."
Holding a large pair of tongs, Schultz looked rather pitiable. His tongs were covered in too much sesame sauce, which not only looked ungraceful but indeed impacted the flavor too much.
Yang Yi glanced at him and said, "You’re beyond help, go get some ketchup."
Schultz poured a lot of ketchup into the sesame sauce bowl, which made Tang Guo frown and say, "Can you even eat that?"
After tentatively trying a bite, Schultz, his face animated, said, "Delicious! Don’t you want to try?"
Everyone else shook their heads vigorously; mixing sesame sauce with ketchup was something only Schultz would do.
Charles said indifferently, "I’m not particularly fond of lamb, but this is unexpectedly delicious. Moreover, you all have to admit that my knife skills are important!"
Yang Yi laughed and said, "That is true, the lamb must be sliced very thin, if it’s thick it’s not tasty. But Charles, it seems like every one of us has sliced it quite thinly."
"But I sliced it the thinnest. Ladies and gentlemen, I suggest that we could often make this hotpot lamb ourselves, and I’m willing to slice the lamb for you."
Like a whirlwind sweeping through leaves, the lamb was consumed rapidly. Keep in mind, Yang Yi had purchased seventeen pounds of lamb, nearly fifteen catties, and it was being eaten by just nine people, yet it was quickly running out.
"Hold on!"
Yang Yi said apologetically, "My friends, we can’t keep eating lamb, don’t you want to try some vegetables?"
"We don’t!"
"I don’t want to at all, because I’m still not full."
Yang Yi said helplessly, "Xiao Ran hasn’t come back yet. We have to save some for her. I’m very sorry, I didn’t buy enough. I really didn’t expect you all to eat so much."
Mike smiled slightly and said, "It’s the first time I’ve been stopped from eating too much. Okay, I’m old, eating too much meat isn’t good. I’ll have some vegetables then."
Brian pointed at Yang Yi with his chopsticks and said, "You bought too little. Buy more next time."
Tang Guo, who ate less than the others, said carelessly, "If you want to eat double lamb, you can go to Chinatown. There’s a restaurant there that can... uh, never mind, it’s actually not that great, and they cut the lamb too thick."
Yang Yi nodded and said, "That’s right, the slices of lamb are just not delicious when they’re too thick."
Tang Guo seemed a bit nervous. She sneakily glanced at the others, and only when she saw that no one was paying attention to her words did she finally relax.
Eventually, the meal was over. Everything was eaten up, except for the portion they had saved for Xiao Ran.
Brian patted his stomach and let out a rather uncouth burp. Then, he sincerely said to Yang Yi, "I rarely praise people, but this time I have to admit you did great, really great. We can continue tomorrow."
Mike also nodded and said, "I agree."
Paul said with a grin, "You guys took on the task, so we can handle the cooking. Remember to write down a list of the ingredients you need later. Calculate it at three times the amount of today, and then we can continue in the evening."
"Are we going to have hotpot with lamb slices tomorrow night?"
"Can we?"
"Of course, of course, we can. I have no objections. I just think that if we continue tomorrow night, then tripling the amount might be a bit too little. Four times would be more appropriate."
"That’s right."
After Brian and the others left, satisfied and patting their bellies, Yang Yi and Kate had to take care of the aftermath. As Boer was about to leave, Yang Yi called out loudly, "Boer, don’t go, come help out."
Boer sighed, but he finally came to terms with reality. He didn’t complain and obediently helped Yang Yi and the others clean up.
As for Tang Guo and Schultz, the two sat down in front of the computer and got busy again.
"Hey, Boss."
It seemed like Schultz suddenly remembered something. He snapped his fingers at Yang Yi and said, "I’ll give you the floor plan of the interior of the Home Office building and the collected images tomorrow morning."
Yang Yi stopped what he was doing and asked, "Have you made progress?"
"Of course, we’re moving fast. Do you want to take a look now?"
Yang Yi thought for a moment and said, "No, let’s wait until tomorrow when the collection is complete to look at it all. But don’t you two need to rest a bit?"
"No need, I’m full of energy right now."
Schultz looked very satisfied and smiled at Yang Yi, "If I could eat such delicious food every day, I wouldn’t feel tired at all. Boss, thank you for remembering to cook for us even when you’re busy. Your cooking is really great!"
Giving Yang Yi a thumbs up, Schultz turned his attention back to the computer. Then Kate said to Yang Yi with a smile, "It looks like everyone is very satisfied. Well done. I didn’t know you were such a great chef."
Yang Yi said in a low voice, "It’s alright. This is the first time I’ve cooked something like this. I just remembered how to do it after watching my aunt do it a few times."
"Your aunt?"
Kate seemed slightly surprised, but she smartly chose not to continue inquiring.
Yang Yi didn’t want to explain further. His aunt, who had no blood relation to him, was the closest relative he had in this world, the only one left, the only one still alive. Given his aunt’s special status, Yang Yi decided to keep all of his aunt’s secrets forever.
