Chapter 346: Chapter 334 Unexpected Gains

"We had hotpot, specifically instant-boiled mutton."

"Very well, and then?"

"I did most of the cooking, and it tasted quite good."

Xiao Ran glanced at her watch and said, "Good, now you’re telling me about the instant-boiled mutton you had for dinner. So, what happened after that?"

"I left you a brand-new pot bottom, hand-sliced mutton — I cut it — plus some vegetables. You can have a midnight snack in the restaurant when you get back."

"Thanks, but I don’t feel like eating instant-boiled mutton at twelve... twenty-six in the morning, oh wait, it will be one o’clock by the time I get back. I appreciate the thought, thanks for leaving me the midnight snack, but now I’m heading straight to bed once I get home. Just to let you know, Martin left the supercomputing center at ten o’clock and went home. He hasn’t gone anywhere since, so he’s still inside. Goodbye."

Xiao Ran was about to leave, and Yang Yi didn’t really know what to say. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I think you should try it, really, it’s very good."

Xiao Ran waved her hand, then she drove off without indicating whether she accepted Yang Yi’s kind gesture.

Of course, Yang Yi stayed in the remaining car to continue surveillance.

Yang Yi found that he had chosen a good time; he felt that Martin Howard definitely wouldn’t leave the house in the middle of the night, so he could actually just sleep in the car since the likelihood of anything happening at this hour was extremely low.

If Yang Yi wasn’t a professional spy, he could have comfortably slept in the car. Many things happen unexpectedly, and that’s why diligence is called there for the unexpected. An excellent spy’s job is to reduce the chances of unexpected events to the minimum, so a well-trained spy would watch the door of Martin’s house all night without even blinking.

Yang Yi of course had to be a qualified spy, so he decided not to close his eyes all night until Martin left his home.

Bored, he turned on the car radio, only to find that there were very few programs to listen to at midnight. So, he started listening to his favorite songs, playing with his phone out of the question as he couldn’t let his sight stray from Martin Howard’s house.

Yang Yi started to feel sleepy after a while, but fortunately, it was just a slight drowsiness.

There were almost no vehicles passing by in the early morning hours. At two o’clock, Yang Yi finally yawned for the first time, but that’s all it was—he wasn’t at the point where his eyes were closing involuntarily. However, just as he finished yawning, he noticed the headlights of a car.

It was just a car passing through the street late at night—nothing to make a fuss about, as while night owls weren’t abundant, they definitely weren’t rare either.

The car stopped not too far from Martin’s door, which was also not particularly surprising—it was just a car returning late at night.

When the car was parked, the lights turned off, and a black man got out, well, that was still nothing out of the ordinary.

But when the black man looked around and then headed straight for Martin’s house, Yang Yi finally opened his eyes wide in surprise. He quickly turned off the stereo and immediately grabbed a small camera to start filming the black man.

Then, Yang Yi saw the black man walk straight up to Martin’s door.

Yang Yi was somewhat stunned when the door was opened without the black man even knocking.

"What the hell is going on?"

In a flurry, Yang Yi took out the listening device and put the headphones on his head.

He had thought there would be no point in eavesdropping at night.

He turned the volume up to the maximum, also opting to record. Then Yang Yi heard a dialogue in his headphones that wasn’t very clear.

"Oh, my dear."

"Must have been anxious, huh?"

Yang Yi’s mouth fell open; he was utterly shocked now.

Some static came through, the dog named Cody stirred, and even let out a few barks, but the listening devices and the receiving terminal could automatically filter out the noise, and most of the louder sounds were blocked, so even though the bug was on the dog’s collar, Yang Yi wouldn’t suffer from ear pain.

That was the advantage of the new equipment. According to Mike, the old devices weren’t this smart or considerate—sometimes the sounds were too faint to hear, other times, painfully loud.

"Cody, quiet."

First came Martin Howard’s gentle soothing, then the sound of a door opening, and the dog’s barking turned to whining, which was Cody welcoming someone it recognized.

"Hey, Cody, did you miss me? Good boy, we’ll go out to play on Saturday, but for now, have a good night’s sleep, okay my dear? Sleep tight."

The speaker wasn’t Martin, but a young-sounding voice.

Soon after, there was the sound of the door closing. Amidst Cody’s whimpers, Yang Yi could hear voices coming through a door, slightly distorted but still clear enough.

"I’ve missed you so much."

"I’ve missed you too, my dear, I’m going to take a shower."

"Okay."

The sounds that followed made Yang Yi take off his headphones, and he involuntarily shivered.

Yang Yi had wanted to professionally listen to all the sounds, but since he had already recorded them, he decided that some sounds that might pollute his ears and his pure young heart were better left unheard. Besides, those sounds were really quite disgusting, even though such things were actually quite common in prisons, he had neither seen nor heard them firsthand, so his tolerance had not been cultivated.

Now, Yang Yi was in a good mood, because he had both video and audio recordings. Although it was completely unexpected and rather unbelievable, this was colloquially known as having a hold on someone, so, his mood was indeed very good.

Dealing with Martin Howard was practically in the bag, which meant that the supercomputer issue had been resolved; naturally, Yang Yi was in high spirits.

Next was to continue the surveillance and then, at four in the morning, Yang Yi saw the black man leave Martin’s house alone in a car.

Naturally, Yang Yi also captured another segment of video.

Until six o’clock in the morning, the lights in Martin Howard’s house went on, and then at half-past six, he left his home on time, walking his dog.

Seeing Martin Howard again, looking as cheerful as ever, Yang Yi felt he could no longer look him in the eye.

A dark green second-hand mini pulled up behind Yang Yi’s car; he exited his vehicle and leaned on the open window.

"I’ll take over for you now; go home and get some good sleep."

Yang Yi shook his head with a full-faced smile and said, "No, we can both go back, no need to watch Martin anymore. We already have what we need, the supercomputer is no longer an issue, so let’s go back and see what Tang Guo and Schultz have come up with."

Kate spoke with extreme surprise, "What? Are you joking?"

Yang Yi, with a look of pride, replied, "It’s no joke, just an unexpected gain, really."
