Chapter 304: Chapter 303: Drawing the Sword
The sound of gunfire was continuous as Zhang Yong’s rifle quickly ran out of bullets, and then he drew his pistol, firing alongside Brian.
In reality, it was only a matter of three to five seconds before none of the more than twenty people in the room could stand.
By the time Yang Yi rushed into the room, there was no need for him to act.
The enemies were dead or wounded, and at that moment, Yang Yi heard Xiao Ran’s loud shout from outside, followed by a series of gunshots behind them.
Yang Yi couldn’t check the situation inside the room because the gunfire continued in the back.
Just after entering the door, Yang Yi turned and ran out, and after passing through two rooms, he found Xiao Ran aiming her gun and continuously firing at an open door, with Kate having rushed to the front of that door.
Another pistol appeared, followed by the sound of a gunshot, and then Kate fell to the ground without a groan.
Yang Yi charged over, and at that time, Brian, Bass, and Zhang Yong also caught up.
The fight was too chaotic.
Mike yelled, "Watch out!"
A gun emerged with the enemy firing a side shot, but this time Xiao Ran’s aim was truer and faster, striking the shooter who had not exposed any vital parts, only taking a bullet in the shoulder from Xiao Ran.
Yang Yi ran to Kate’s side, almost frantic because Kate had been shot.
But before Yang Yi could check on Kate’s condition, she rolled over from the ground and got up, in pain but alright.
"People, lots of them!"
Clenching her teeth, Kate managed to say before Yang Yi pulled her up, while Zhang Yong aimed his gun at the doorway.
Just then, another hand grenade was tossed out, extremely close to Yang Yi and Kate.
In the instant he saw the grenade, Yang Yi’s hairs stood on end. Without time to think, he instinctively pushed Kate, who was just about to stand up, to the ground and then immediately threw himself on top of her.
The grenade exploded behind Yang Yi, and at that moment, Charles retaliated by tossing another one into the room from which the first grenade had come.
With Kate pinned beneath him, Yang Yi moved his limbs, and once his mind cleared, he realized he hadn’t died or been injured.
Today was a brand-new day for Yang Yi, the day a new world opened its doors to him.
Whether it was fighting bravely in prison or engaging in a bloody knife fight with a hitman, it wasn’t until now that Yang Yi truly understood what it meant to be on the thin line between life and death.
You can dodge a knife, but bullets are a different story. Even the strongest can’t dodge bullets. Hence, in a confined indoor battle where you pave the way with grenades and let bullets do the talking, all tactics for staying alive are false. The only true, best method is to take the enemy out first.
Yang Yi immediately got up.
Brian charged in first, followed by Zhang Yong, and as Yang Yi rolled off Kate and got up, he caught sight of Zhang Yong’s retreating figure.
They had to be fast, even if they knew someone inside was aiming a gun at the door, they had to rush in. This is one of the reasons why indoor combat is the most dangerous and has the highest casualty rate.
As Yang Yi stood up, he saw Zhang Yong’s back, and then he saw Zhang Yong leap back and drop to the ground, and at the same time, Brian also turned and threw himself to the ground.
With a boom, another grenade exploded in the room.
Yang Yi now really couldn’t hear anything, the continuous grenade explosions greatly affected his hearing.
While Brian and Zhang Yong lay down to avoid the grenade, Paul and Charles had already caught up, and by now Yang Yi no longer thought of anything else.
He couldn’t worry about what was useful or not, he just had to charge in and take out everyone. That was the only thing to do, the one thing everyone had to do.
Paul was in the lead, with Charles following, and Yang Yi was right behind Charles.
They entered a room of around ten square meters, but it was empty. Paul continued to charge forward, but just as he was about to rush through the second door, he suddenly jerked his rifle upright.
A very fine wire was stretched across the doorway. Luckily, Paul reacted quickly, raising his rifle to protect his neck. Otherwise, had he charged in recklessly, even if his neck wouldn’t have been severed, his windpipe would have been surely cut open.
The thin wire withstood the tremendous impact without breaking. Caught off guard, Paul protected his neck, but his body lost balance and fell backward, while Charles stopped, tossed a grenade inside, and simultaneously grabbed Paul’s leg, dragging him back.
Wire traps at the door were not the way of mercenaries; it was the signature of an assassin.
The grenade exploded, but there was no response from behind the second door.
The enemy was fleeing.
After waiting for the grenade to explode, Charles ducked under the wire and went through, followed closely by Yang Yi, who also ducked his head and ran inside.
The room behind the second door wasn’t large and was clearly empty.
Charles continued sprinting ahead and when passing through another door, he caught a glimpse of a dark line close to the ground on the door frame, so he immediately leapt over it.
As Charles vaulted over, while still mid-air, he saw someone inside the room aiming a gun at him.
Charles fired a shot in mid-air. He had been hit, but so had the enemy.
The enemy had aimed at the center, so if Charles had been tripped by the wire, the enemy could have easily shot him in the head or at him lying on the ground. But now, since Charles hadn’t fallen, the enemy had hit Charles in the torso, while Charles had hit the enemy in the head.
Charles landed, and Yang Yi rushed past him even faster.
It was like a race, but this time Yang Yi was in front of everyone.
Yang Yi rushed forward, aiming to be the first through the door, but Charles, following closely behind, pulled on him, so they squeezed through the door together.
There was a gunshot, Charles’s body jerked, and then Yang Yi saw someone.
"Bass!"
Yang Yi roared.
Charles had been shot, but Yang Yi, behind him, had not been hit, and he had seen Bass.
Bass’s marksmanship was extremely precise, a fact Yang Yi was well aware of.
Yang Yi had watched Bass shoot dead three of his men, initially thinking it was easy because the range was so close it would be strange to miss. However, after practicing his own shooting skills, he realized just how difficult it was to rapidly fire three shots at a very close range and hit lethal points with each one.
Yang Yi couldn’t draw his gun with his left hand as he was behind Charles.
Charles was half a body length ahead of Yang Yi. Bass might not have expected them to enter in such a manner, so his reaction was a bit slow.
Moreover, Yang Yi’s sudden shout of Bass’s name ultimately disrupted him.
No chance to draw his gun, no matter. Yang Yi’s right hand moved like lightning, grabbing Bass’s handgun and pressing it downward with a swift pull.
The gun fired, the bullet struck the floor, but Yang Yi’s heavy foot kicked fiercely against Bass’s thigh.
Bass stepped back, released his grip, dropped his gun, and drew a knife.
Yang Yi advanced, let go, dropped his gun, and drew his knife.
